Description: The mistakes from HP movies

Sardine - July 29, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
Have you ever noticed mistakes in the HP movies
Some of them are pretty obvious, but others arent really(you gotta look for them, and i mean really look for them)!
This is for people that might of noticed something, but weren't sure about it,and didnt want to check on a website(no offense)
NOTE: You might want to copy and paste these to Word to read them ^_^
So here some of them are:

Philosophers Stone

· Harry's glasses sometimes have lenses, and sometimes don't, as do Dumbledore's.

· On the train scene, the same hill as well as lake (as seen by the waves in the middle of the water) are seen multiple times

In their first potions class, Suzanne Bones is seen sitting next to Ron. However, earlier in the movie we see Suzanne Bones sorted into Hufflepuff, not Gryffindor or Slytherin, the two houses in that particular class.

Wood states that catching the Golden Snitch will win you the game. All it does is score 150 points and end the game - it does not necessarily secure a win.

Chamber of Secrets

When Harry breaks his right arm playing Quidditch, he takes great care to keep it held up as he rolls from side to side to avoid the bludger, but at one point he puts his weight on it without any apparent discomfort. In the next shot he is holding it across his stomach again.

The students are able to carry on conversations and hear instructions while wearing the earmuffs that protect them from the screams of the mandrake roots. We assume the earmuffs to be enchanted to specifically block mandrake screams, but not other sounds. Despite what "it says in the book" there is nothing in the movie to suggest that this could not be the case. (I thought there was something weird about that!)

When Harry and Ron are in the Dark Forest and the spiders begin to attack, Hagrid's dog gets in the car twice.

When the Weasleys' enchanted car has ejected them and Ron and Harry are chasing the car, you can see the hand and silhouette of the driver.

When Ron and Harry run into Prof. Lockhart's office, after they just found out that Ginny has been taken into the Chamber of Secrets, Lockhart can be seen briefly in a mirror beside the door, waiting for his cue.

Prisoner of Azkaban

Interesting stuff

In the scene where Harry is given the Maruader's Map by the Weasley twins, the name "Moony" is misspelled as "Mooney". While not really a mistake, there is still an interesting connection. The film's visual effects supervisor is named Karl Mooney. The spelling was changed deliberately for the in-joke.

During the credits on the Marauder's Map watch for: Footprints that turn into paw prints; footprints that chase other footprints; cat prints that chase owl prints; extra-large footprints by Robbie Coltrane's credit; footprints that take special interest in the closing credits' creator; two pairs of footprints in a scandalous configuration in a corner turret; footprints that scurry away when the page covering them is lifted; footprints that get stuck in an alcove; footprints that walk into a room labeled "The Grindylow Lagoon," then sink; and Hogsmeade landmarks, including the Book of Monster's (sic) Repair Shop and The Stink Bomb Shop; toward the end, footprints can be seen playing hopscotch. By the listing for the song "La cumparsita" (The song Lupin plays during the Boggart scene) a set of footprints can be seen tapping one of their feet.

Professor Dumbledore seemingly stalls the executioner by saying that he needs to sign the execution order, and that he has "a very long name". In the book "Order of the Phoenix", his full name is revealed to be Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.

During the scene where we first meet Buckbeak the Hippogriff, just after Ron pushes Harry forward there is a shot of the animal pooping. The CGI team believes this might be the first example of a CGI animal doing this, but the Discovery Channel miniseries "Walking with Dinosaurs" (1999) had done it first.

In the classroom scene where Lupin (David Thewlis) puts on a gramophone while the students fight a Boggart, we see a close-up of the gramophone, and on it is the word 'Thewlis'

Mistakes

Revealing mistakes: In opening scene in Harry's bedroom, it can be seen in one shot that Harry is lying on a sheet of glass (to allow magical lighting effect) rather than on a sheet.
Continuity: When Dudley is watching television, he is watching "The Generation Game" (1971). We see a contestant put some headphones on, and in the next shot we see the same clip.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: After the class has finished dealing with the boggart, Harry's scar appears to be on the wrong side. We are seeing his reflection in the mirror on the door of the wardrobe that holds the boggart.
Continuity: When Harry, Ron, and Hermione are talking to Hagrid about Buckbeak's execution we see Harry get up and walk away from the rock he is sitting on. But in the next shot, Harry is sitting back down on the rock.
Continuity: When Hagrid is standing in the lake and tells Harry, Ron, and Hermoine that Buckbeak has been sentenced to death, he throws a rock into the water. When the camera pulls back, there are no ripples, as if the rock wasn't thrown at all.
• Continuity: During his conversation with Fudge, Harry's arm switches position on the back of the chair.
Continuity: When Harry is interrogated by Professor Snape about the Marauder's Map in the darkly-lit hallway, the drawstrings on Harry's sweatshirt change position. In one shot, they fall parallel, but in the next shot, they criss-cross. Also, when Lupin is talking to Harry in his classroom minutes later, the drawstrings switch from being cris-crossed to falling parallel between shots.
Continuity: The spot on Harry's shirt in the finale moves from a large, dark spot over his breastbone to a less distinct spot over his right ribcage.
Crew or equipment visible: The bulge of Emma Watson's microphone battery-pack is clearly visible under the back of her pink hoodie as Hermione and Harry head down to Hagrids hut, just after they move away from the stairs where Malfoy and his cronies are running up.
Crew or equipment visible: When Harry is bowing to Buckbeak in the pumpkin patch near the end of the movie, you can see the bulge of his microphone battery pack, which is under the back of his sweatshirt.
Crew or equipment visible: You can sometimes see lighting devices reflected in the characters' glasses. As Harry is telling Hagrid "It'll be fine" as they are hurrying out the door, you can see lighting equipment reflected in Harry's glasses. Also, in Trelawney's first class, you can see similar lighting equipment reflected in her glasses.
Continuity: In Hagrid's hut the first time, Hermione open's the back door to leave and sticks her head out before Hagrid opens the front door to let in Dumbuldore and Fudge. When time is turned, you can clearly see that Hagrid opens the front door before Hermione opens the back door.
Continuity: The cuts in the canvas of the Fat Lady's painting do not line up with the knife cuts on the wall behind it. All of them are too low
Factual errors: When the choir is singing the lines from Macbeth they sing "lizard's leg and owlet's wing". The actual line from Macbeth is "lizard's leg and howlet's wing". Of course, Shakespeare might have mis-transcribed the original spell, while the wizarding world would know the *real* version.
Continuity: When they're in the Shrieking Shack, Ron is pointing as he says "He's an animagus!" however, his hand then goes from pointing to holding Scabbers between shots.
Continuity: On the train, the bottle of water is on the right-hand side of the tray. However, when the bottle of water starts freezing, it is in the center of the tray. After the Dementor attack, it is on the right of the tray again.
Revealing mistakes: When the Whomping Willow hits Harry and Hermione, they land on the grass hard. However, as Hermione gets up, she pushes down on the grass they are on, and you can tell that it is separate from the rest of the grass around them. They obviously landed on a softened mat rather than the regular ground.
Continuity: In the hut, when the rock comes flying in the window, it breaks the urn into three large pieces. When we see it broken again later, it breaks into several small pieces.
Crew or equipment visible: When Lupin is talking to Harry about Harry's parents a piece of lighting equipment is reflected in Harry's glasses.
Crew or equipment visible: When Harry blows up his aunt, you can see the cables that she is attached to.
Revealing mistakes: In the Shrieking Shack, just before Lupin and Sirius point their wands at Peter, a blue piece of tape is visible on Peter's "missing" finger, meaning the visual effect to remove it wasn't done for that particular shot.
Continuity: In the Shrieking Shack, when Peter Pettigrew is kneeling and begging for mercy, he has all ten fingers (as opposed to the nine he should have) splayed on the ground in front of him.
Continuity: When the DADA class lines up to each have a go at the ridikulus Charm, Seamus clearly behind Ron in the queue, followed by Harry. Once Ron ends his turn, Pavarti is then next (not Seamus), followed by Harry.
Continuity: The mud on Hermione's trousers changes throughout the time-turner scene.
Continuity: When Snape is filling in for Lupin in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Hermione's Time Turner changes from hanging over her robe, to under, then over again between shots.
Continuity: On the Knight Bus, as Stan Shunpike holds the newspaper in his hands the position of the hat on his head changes between shots.
Revealing mistakes: In the latter part of the movie, when a cloud moves to reveal the full moon, Harry and Hermione's faces light up as though a light shines directly in front of them. The moon however, is to their right.
Continuity: In the CoMC class, when Harry is approaching Buckbeak, Ron is behind him. Sometimes he has his "Monster Book of Monsters" under his left arm, and sometimes the book is missing.
Continuity: When Seamus and Harry are trying to get into Gryffindor and the Fat Lady finally stops singing after breaking her glass, the portrait swings into the room. The following shot showing Harry and the rest from the inside clearly shows the Fat Lady portrait/door swinging the other way.
Continuity: At Hagrid's hut, after Harry, Ron, and Hermione sneak out the back and are hiding behind the pumpkins, when Hermione turns and looks over her shoulder at the sound of the breaking branch, as they go to leave, she turns back around to face the cabin before heading off to her left. When 'time turned Harry and Hermione' are watching themselves, when Hermione turns and looks behind her, she continues turning to her right to leave, never facing the cabin.
Continuity: Lupin changes position between shots shortly before Harry takes his turn to fight the boggart.
Continuity: On the train, after the Dementor attack, Harry bites off the point of the triangular piece of chocolate he's been given, but in the next shot, the piece is whole again.
Continuity: During the conversation with the Minister of Magic, the Minister removes the lid on the pot of pea soup. A few moments later, the lid is back on again (just visible in the corner). In the subsequent shots, the lid is off again.
Continuity: After leaving the Dursley's, Harry passes the lamppost before he sits down at the curb, but in the close-up, he is exactly in front of the lamppost.
Continuity: When Harry and Hermione are hiding from the werewolf, and they back away from a tree, Hermione is 2-3 steps behind Harry and closest to the werewolf. In the next shot, she is in front of Harry as he puts his arm around her to protect her.
Continuity: In the finale, when Harry passes out (the first time,) he stays conscious long enough to see the light of the patronus fade, therefore, he sees himself. When time-turned, however, he passes out before the light of the patronus fades.
Continuity: Harry's grip on Buckbeak when they fly early in the movie changes between shots when they pull in for a close-up.
Factual errors: Lightning strikes the snitch during the chase in the storm-cloud but any object within a thundercloud automatically carries the same charge as the cloud itself, ruling out a strike.
Crew or equipment visible: When Hermione jumps over the branch of the Whomping Willow, you can see the cables pulling her up.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): During the entire shrieking shack scene, Harry's head is clearly blank, lacking his scar.

Goblet of Fire

Revealing mistakes: In the second task, Karkaroff can be seen mouthing the words that Dumbledore is saying.
Continuity: When he has emerged from the bath water after listening to the egg, Harry is sitting with Myrtle and his hair changes repeatedly between shots, going from completely smooth to having a bit of hair sticking straight out on his right side.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Harry reads Sirius' letter to him, the shot of the letter reveals that Sirius's last words in it are "By the way, the bird bites," but in the voice-over Sirius says "P.S. The bird bites."
Revealing mistakes: When watching the arrival of the Beauxbatons contingent (a stagecoach pulled by seven winged horses), the Hogwarts students are looking in different directions. Aome are still looking at the sky, some looking down, others looking straight to the front/camera.
Continuity: When Snape is showing Harry the Veritaserum, his fingers on the bottle switch from being at the top of the bottle to in the middle between shots.
Continuity: During Dumbledore's speech before the third task, Karkaroff is standing behind Krum, and he begins to rub Krum's shoulders. In the very next shot, Karkaroff's hands are still at his sides, and he begins to rub Krum's shoulders again.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the waltz scene, the orchestra includes a couple of boys playing saxophones which are not actually heard in the played score.
Crew or equipment visible: When Harry is picking up the licorice snaps when the cabinet to the pensieve is opening you can see a glimpse of Harry's microphone box on his back under his hoodie.
Continuity: Before the cabinet with the Pensieve opens up, you can see its light on Harry's face.
Factual errors: Hermione detests pink yet she is seen wearing a pink dress to the Yule ball.
Continuity: After Harry climbs out of the lake, Hermione covers him with a pink towel she was wearing moments before. The shot changes to an overhead shot, and Hermione is wearing the towel again. In the next shot, she is putting it on Harry again.
Miscellaneous: WHen Harry gets out of the lake in the second task, you see Seamus draping a rolled up towel over Harry's shoulders. In the next shot, the towel is completely spread over his back. The shot changes and the towel is rolled up again.
Continuity: Harry and Ron are not speaking to each other for quite some time before the first task, yet when Harry enters the dragon arena, Ron is standing next to Hermione and cheering Harry on as if nothing had ever happened between them.
Continuity: After Harry emerges from the Black Lake, we see that Harry is handed an extra light blue towel by Hermione. In the next shot, the towel is still on Hermione, and not on Harry. In the next shot, we see Hermione still putting on the blue towel, which by that time would have already been on Harry from the first time around.
Miscellaneous: When Dumbledore is presenting the goblet, in the background you can clearly see Hagrid's stunt double, the 6'10" rugby player. He looks nothing like Hagrid.
Crew or equipment visible: When Harry is in Moody's office after the third task, and Moody closes the cabinet door after searching for more potion, a reflection of a crew member in a white shirt is reflected in the cabinet's glass.
Continuity: As the Champions are lining up to enter the Great Hall before the Yule Ball, Fleur has a small shawl wrapped around her arms. As they walk in, it has disappeared.
Continuity: In the second task, Harry falls into the water on his own. Then Moody's hand is seen pushing him in.
Continuity: When Moody is about to turn Malfoy into a ferret, he sticks his cane in the ground at an angle. When he returns to talk with McGonagall, the cane is straight upright.
Revealing mistakes: When Rita Skeeter is about to interview the four champions, she lightly touches Fleur Delacour's face, who then winces ahead of the slap that Rita gives her.
Crew or equipment visible: When the camera moves to look into Moody's "pit-like" suitcase, you can see the shadow of the camera on the left.
Continuity: When spying on Neville practicing for the Yule Ball, Harry and Ron's hair is significantly shorter than in the following scene.
Continuity: When Fred and George throw Ron the note in the Great Hall before the ball, the text is at the top of the page. Yet when it is shown close up, the text is in the middle of the page.
Continuity: When the band is playing the fast song at the Yule Ball, Crabbe jumps with his hands on Victor Krum. When the camera zooms in on Krum and Hermione, Crabbe is not standing near Krum.
Continuity: After the sequence of the dance Harry and Hermione are outside talking. Hermione's scarf has orange stripes on it. The scarf is wrapped around her neck in such a way that there are two stripes on the right side of her neck and in the next shot they are on the left side of her neck.
Audio/visual unsynchronized: After Neville returns from the ball, he has his shoes around his neck. But you can hear he has shoes on when he turns around and goes back to his bed.
Crew or equipment visible: The camera is reflected in the metal water container when Dumbledore walks down the stairs to attend to Ron and Fleur's sister during the second task.
Crew or equipment visible: The light of the camera is reflected in the glass behind Dumbledore as he talks to Harry immediately after the Pensieve flashback.
Continuity: When the names are drawn from the Goblet, one of the Weasley twins appears to be two places at once. When Harry sits down on the risers, there is a Weasley twin sitting down farther on the row. In a long shot, both Weasley twins are sitting together at a table on the other side of the hall.
Miscellaneous: One of the credits is for "Assistant Choroegrapher" (sic).
Continuity: When Hermione arrives in Ron's bedroom to wake him and Harry up, Ron's arms change positions between shots.
Continuity: At the cemetery, when Harry is trapped at the statue, Voldemort raises his right arm and places his finger on Harry's head. While Voldemort's arm remains raised his sleeve slides down towards his shoulder, but is back up at his elbow in the close-up.
Continuity: In the last scene, when Harry says, "Yes, it is," to Hermoine after her question, lots of people can be seen in the balcony area behind Harry. In the very next scene, they walk into the balcony and it is absolutely empty.
Continuity: When Ron's brother is flipping the note to Ron when they are talking about dates to the Yule Ball, there are four lines of text written on it. In the next shoot, when Ron is reading the note, there are only three lines.
Continuity: In the dining hall, when Ron unwraps the box with his awful dress robes and "bonnet," the position of the wrapping, box, etc., differs between shots.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Moody is teaching his first lesson, he writes "unforgiveable" instead of "unforgivable" on the board.
Continuity: In the tent where the champions are preparing for the first task, Karkaroff and Krum look around and stand up slowly when the cannon is fired. In the very next shot, they are standing up and away from the center of the shot.
Continuity: In the scene showing the arrival of the Beauxbatons ladies, the shot of Ron and Harry being overly-excited, Hermione and Ginny are sitting next to each other as they show a little bit of disgust at the boys' reaction to Fleur. In the next shot - after the Beauxbaton ladies move past Harry and Ron, they show Ginny and she is sitting next to another girl - not Hermione.
Continuity: When Frank Bryce goes up the outside stairs of the Riddle house he doesn't have a cane. But when the interior shot shows him opening the door and entering, he's holding a cane. The next shot of him walking in the house and climbing the interior stairs, the cane is gone.
Continuity: When the Weird Sisters begin playing, in the first crowd shout the Beauxbatons student with the curly red hair is seen right in front of the stage. In the next crowd shot she's in the very back around Krum and Hermione.
Continuity: When Ron receives his dress robes and a shot is shown of his classmates laughing, Padma Patil can be seen among them, but when the twins meet up with Ron and Harry before the Yule Ball, Padma acts as if she's never seen Ron's robes before then.
Continuity: When Moody writes his name, then the shot switches, if you look on the blackboard, it is quite noticeable that his name is written differently.
Continuity: During the duel with Lord Voldemort, when their wands are connected, Harry grabs his wand with his second hand twice.
Continuity: The holes in the dragon's wings alternate from right to left throughout the chase.
Continuity: When Ron makes fun out of Eloise Midgen, the close up shot of Midgen shows a white girl on her right, then a black girl. On the full room shot, the white girl vanishes from sight, and the black girl is next to Eloise Midgen.
Continuity: The Beauxbatons girls singing at the third task shift around between shots before and after the graveyard scene.
Continuity: In the Cho/Harry owlery scene, a barn owl lands on a perch behind Harry when he and Cho talk, then in the next shot, the barn owl disappears.
Continuity: When Seamus tells Dean to get more towels for Harry when he gets out of the lake, Dean runs off, but in the next shot, Dean is still right next to Harry.
Continuity: When the Beaubaton arrive in the great hall, Seamus is seen sitting to Ron's left and whispers to him "Blimey, that's one big woman" as Madame Maxime walks past. However, upon the arrival of Mad-eye Moody, Seamus is seen sitting on the other side of the table next to Hermione where he says "What's that he's drinkin' do you suppose?"
Miscellaneous: While Harry is trapped by the statue in the cemetery, his hands are apparently trapped behind the scythe as well. However, there is clearly enough room for Harry to remove his hands and free them.
Continuity: After Harry falls into Dumbledore's memory well, he sits next to him and says "Professor?" Behind him you see two women approach and sit down. The camera angle changes to show someone stick his hand through Harry and shake Dumbledore's hand. You can see the same two women approach again and sit down again.
Continuity: After the second task in the competition, Dumbledore announces that Harry will receive a second place finish for his honorable merit. However, before starting the third task, Dumbledore announces that Cedric and Harry will start the maze at the same time because they tied for first place in the second task.
Continuity: In the scene during which Headmaster Dumbledore is announcing the arrival of the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang academies, Filch is seen running towards Dumbledore to warn him of the arrivals. In one scene it shows that Filch has run at least 20 feet past Ron and Harry. In the next scene the camera pulls to a closer shot in which it shows Harry and Ron are startled to see Filch *just* run past.
Continuity: When Moody's introducing the Imperius curse, Harry and Ron are in the front. In some scenes, they're more to the middle of the classroom, in other's they're still in the front.
Plot holes: Krum says to the reporter that friends and family were allowed in the tent But when dumbledore enters, He asks why Hermione's in there as if she's not allowed!
Miscellaneous: The Dark Mark is supposedly on the left arm of a Death Eater. However, when Karkaroff showed the Mark to Snape, it was on his right arm.

Continuity: SPOILER During the post-cemetery sequence where the crowd is reacting to Cedric's death, Neville appears to be in two places at once. He is given a close-up reaction shot towards the end of the scene, and he is standing between two students. In the shot directly preceding this however, he can be seen on the far right edge of the screen; an unidentified female student is on his left, and she disappears from in the next shot (his close-up).

All mistakes are from IMBD

REMY-SALINAS - July 26, 2006 03:22 PM (GMT)
Thanks Sardine I just went back and rewatched the first movie and it was reall cool to catch the mistakes you mentioned do you have any for the POA and TGOF

jordanhouse - July 26, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
I noticed in the PoA that when the students get ready to leave their class and Harry is looking into the wardrobe mirror, his scar is on the wrong side of his face. i thought maybe it was because he was looking in the mirror, but if you look closely, that is not the case.

Ginny_potter - July 27, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
wow im deff going to look out for them next time i see it.

Sardine - July 27, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)

Sardine - August 2, 2006 04:01 PM (GMT)
Yep,it is. What's even more amazing that this hasnt started a new page...But this post will probably change that.
It's also pretty scary that the directors and cast made these simple mistakes...I dont blame them though.
