Title: How/When did you get HBP?

Professor Rogue - July 16, 2005 05:40 AM (GMT)
So tell me, how/when did you get the book? I arrived at Wal*Mark at 11:05 and waited until 12:01 for them to let us buy it at the service station. I was pretty lucky because I got really close in a line, probably the 7th person is line. The line got REALLY long, really quick so I was glad that I came when I did. Then around 11:40 they brought the books out! I was SO excited! But I got the book for $15.78 at Wal*Mark. How about you?

darko-grl - July 16, 2005 06:21 AM (GMT)
I went down to Books and Moore at about 10.30 and they bought them out at 11am and I was so excited. Huge lines ... Im half way through now. Its amazing ... Im going to get off the computer now and go read more! HARRY POTTER ROCKS!!!!

Merlin - July 16, 2005 07:08 PM (GMT)

Imaginary - July 17, 2005 12:41 AM (GMT)
My brother preordered it at 8 in the morning, then I got it at 12:45 and started reading at 1. Finished it at 12:30 am :D

angelsflame265 - July 17, 2005 06:32 AM (GMT)
I almost got it at Borders (a bookstore chain around my area) but the line was way to long, so I went to Mejier and got it for 15 bucks :)

Professor Rogue - July 17, 2005 08:19 AM (GMT)
Yep, grab those deals people, I forgot about Meijers. But I kind of laughed at those people who came in at like 11:50 and then said, "Look at the line!" I was like, come on folks. Surely you would have guessed that you had to be here before the last minute! There were tons of people in line!

darko-grl - July 17, 2005 08:24 AM (GMT)
I bought mine for $30 ... I have no idea how much that is in American of anything ...

But I got there about 10 minutes before hand ... because my parents wouldn't hurry up ... they were like just a minute ... need to do this, and just a tick im finishing this ... I was ready to run to the book store in the end!

Shonk Da 'Onk - July 17, 2005 08:33 AM (GMT)
We ordered it for $10 bucks at Clint's and coz my mum was one of the first 50 to get it I got a free HP hat

darko-grl - July 17, 2005 08:42 AM (GMT)
YAY for the hat. I got a $10 free book voucher! :D

SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - July 19, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
i actually had to take my kiddies cause i had noone to watch them :(. hubby was working at night and others had to work in the morning.

anyhow, it was sooooo much fun! we got to books-a-million at around 9:30pm and there were already a bunch of poeple there. it was really good :). all these poeple in those awsome costums! i didn't wear one but i wish i had :( . my older son made himself a magic hat, we got our faces painted (my little one kept saying he wanted a star :P ), had some acid pops (apparently Dumbledore likes them too ;) ) and a lightning bolt shaped whatever it was. some sweet sticky treat. we watched the costum contest and when that was over poeple started heading up front. i noticed it immediatly and hurried up front too (about 11:30pm i would say - didn't have a watch). i was like 10th in line. they brought the books in through the front door about 10 till midnight and had boxes and boxes of them sitting in front of the check outs. then they did a tiny countdown and everyone shouted :). there were two poeple behind each register and since everyone had to have a book voucher to get a book it went really fast and it wasn't more than a couple of minutes later that i had my copy! one person scanned the voucher, the other put the book in a bag...... and off we went :)

Went to Barnes and Noble around 7:20pm on Friday evening and sat in the non-pre-order line until 12:01am. Brought my 7 year old cousin (soon to be adopted daughter) and watched her go play games and cheer on the costume contest and buy me coffee...lol. She got lots of HP stuff, all of which wound up on my living room floor. Had some really nice people next to me in line that I talked to and when I wasn't being social I was re-reading Book 5. Got just past page 100 before I gave up and went back to socializing.

It was fun. I think I'll do the pre-order thing next year so I can participate in the costume contest. I think Professor Trelawny might work for me...except my hair is dark...I dunno...maybe I'll be one of the bad guys...Bellatrix or someone.

:D

SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - July 19, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
i'm just gonna ignore you could even consider dressing up as bellatrix  ( :P ) . but i did want to say there was someone dressed up as trewlany at the party i went to and i thought it was one of the best costumes :). there was even a girl dressed up as the fat lady complete with picture frame and pink dress - really good!

also good to hear others on here were accompanied by a little one and had lots of fun.

It was just a thought...as I already have crappy dark clothes and pale skin and could pull it off. Plus...if I did a well enough job I could scare little ones...I've always loved doing that...ever since I worked at the Halloween shop.

I may end up doing a professor...maybe McGonagal...or Professor Trelawny or Professor Sprout. lol...or Madam Pomfrey...or Rosmerta. Hmm...

Luna - July 25, 2005 05:54 AM (GMT)

mwiley - July 26, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
I got mine about three days after it came out, from our local grocery store. It was $24.00. My mom brought it home for me, and I started reading as soon as I got it...I must have read until four in the morning before I finally put it down to go to sleep. I finished it the next day.

REMY-SALINAS - July 25, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
Well I work at Wal*Mart so that day when i ended my shift there was still a few minutes before they could sell them and i remember they had a huge pallet full of the books so i walked up and got one there were a few people holding books but not nearly as many as i thought they'd be in fact i think there were only 2 cashiers that night-yea it was kinda slow, so from the time i got it to the time i paid for it was like maybe 10-15 minutes yea express checkout baby. all my other freinds had to wait in lines even though they all had vouchers so with the last book i'll probably jus do the same again

Ginny_potter - July 25, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
i got mine first day first hour first in line nobody was there!!

TwistedLogic-05 - August 21, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)

sailorleo - February 4, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
i got it opening night at a harry potter launch party a local book store was holding, sure it was filled with mstly kids, but hey, at least i wasn't the oldest there...and i got to correct a 9 year old...so life's good :P

dreamdancer7699 - February 4, 2007 07:46 AM (GMT)
Only you would not only correct a 9 year old, but take pleasure in it as well! Hehe! I got mine at 7am as the doors to Walmart opened. There weren't a lot of people, but there were a few, and everyone of them grabbed a copy of the book. It was kinda funny. There were people of all ages grabbing them. :P

Shonk Da 'Onk - February 4, 2007 10:10 AM (GMT)
My mum went down and got it and brought it back and then teased me with it for two days while she read it . . . end of story. :(

dreamdancer7699 - February 4, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
:o OMG THAT'S SO MEAN!!!!! You poor thing! No wonder you like to torture others, when you're tortured at home. LMAO! :P

Dana Lynn - February 5, 2007 03:19 AM (GMT)
My aunt got me my own copy of HBP this last Christmas. I had been having her copy, well, I had all her Harry Potter books and she bought me all 6 for Christmas so I would give her back her books. lol

alrerretta - February 5, 2007 06:58 AM (GMT)
well I guess my story isn't as good as most of yours but my husband was doing security at a Reasors store that night, he started work at 8:00 P.M.
He knows I love harry Hatter and has gotten me every book and movie that is out so far. Anyway he was working when the books came in and he got the very first book.

About 5 min. later people started to look for the books, they had come from other stores.

It seams that the other stores ran out so they desided to get a snack is what my husband told me and saw the books, the next thing you know the books where all sold. My husband told me he was glad he desided to buy the book when he did, if he would have waited until he got off work I wouldn't have mine now.

Wow this thread is old. Oh well!

I went to the midnight thingy at the mall and read the whole book in the car on the way home. Then I read it again, and again, and again, and again, and again...
