This is the question that eveyone has been wanting to know for may be a year!

The title has been released, and we know that the book is, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but who is the Half Blood Prince?!

Post your thoughts and ideas here about who it might be!

Well we r talking bout JK's imagination here so for all we know it could be 1 of Hagrid's flobber worms :blink: Though I highley doubt that....I think the HBP is human :lol: That much I think is for sure

I just think that it must be someone new! It would make more sense, because it would be weird if it was someone already at Hogwarts, wouldn't it of been obvious in the last like 5 years?

But thats the thing..we don't even know what it means by the HBP! I mean how can it b obvious if we don't know what it is :D

I say its gonna be Hagrid :ph43r: or it could be someone new comeing...who knows well just have to wait until the book comes out :P

i'm leaning towards new character....but lately i'm also considering snape. we don't know for sure that he's pureblood, but he probably is. or is he? i'm gonna post in the "is snape a vampire" thread tonight :D

I think if it is a character who's been around for 5 years on Harry Potter, then they mustn't of known that they were a Prince, if they did..would they be at Hogwarts, and they could keep their mouth shut for that long?~! :rolleyes:

and what about hagrid? he's defenitly not hot, but he is a top candidate in many hp fans' opinion. or seamus? (or was it dean thomas? don't remember) but neither one of them's hot - at least not in the movies....and i don't remember how they were descibed in the books

I have very conflicting thoughts about this. At first, I really thought that it would be Hagrid ya know, but now I'm not so sure. It would be interesting for it to be a new character, but this is Book 6, the book prior to the last one. We'll probably get new characters of course, but I don't think the Prince would be someone totally new. It's probably someone we'd least expect. . .like Neville or Seamus.

I'm leaning for Neville just because he was born around the same time as Harry and I think that is important to note. Yes, Voldermorth chose Harry becuase he knew that Harry was in some way a threat to him. But I don't think she would have Neville be born around the same time for kicks.

well? does the half-blood prince actually have to be a half-blood?

cause if he does than it can't be neville as neville is pureblood.


i was also wondering if half-breeds even qualify...like hagrid? (or a half-vampire :P ). i guess they would be half-bloods as well :unsure: . 1 parent wizard, the other not....any comments?

Thats strange, because then that means Harry and Neville will be the main characters and something must happen in this book or Neville would carry on being A main character. may be he dies!! ;)

Well, I find this supposed excerpt from HBP interesting:

"He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp."

This could be a description of the Half Blood Prince. . . I dunno, maybe. I definitely don't think that any of the Weasley's are the HBP, or Draco, or Hermione. But Snape or Neville. . . hmmm. . . those are interesting possibilities. . . It could also very well likey be a whole new character, but I thought I read somewhere that the HBP was someone who's been in the book all along. . . but maybe I'm wrong. :)

and to the exerpt from hbp....i kinda think it's the new dada teacher, but i'm probably wrong. it's just very similar to how jk usually desribes the dada teacher, but i haven't read the books in a while so i'm not too sure on that either :unsure: . BUT, even if this turns out to be the new dada teacher - it could still be the hbp as well!!

I think it's the DADA teacher 2....I mean who else could it be :blink:

I really don't think its Neville...cuz he's a pureblood. But I really don't have any good guesses. Many ppl think its Hagrid...but he's a half-breed not a half-blood. Which Bianca brought up as well. I've also tossed around the idea of a new character...but part of me thinks that we're so far into the series that it would be silly to bring in a new character. He/she wouldn't have as much time to develop, and wouldn't it make more sense for the HBP to be a deep character? I don't know...cuz like someone said a while back...we don't even know what being the "Half-blood Prince" entails...

I totally agree with you, Li. Except that I'm almost positive that the HBP is someone who has been in like all the books, so it CAN'T be a new character. But other than that, yeah, I don't know who the HBP could be

I hear ya Coldfire. I really don't have much of a clue...except for what i said earlier. Theres supposed to be a clue in Chamber of Secrets...but its prolly so small no one has a chance of finding it. :P

Yeah, JK Rowling likes leaving little clues that most people don't or can't pick up. I didn't find the clue in Chamber of Secrets!!

It's either two people: Someone who has progressed from nobody to somebody (look in the books for someone who has become progressively more noticable). Or someone new, I haven't found enough evidense for it to tip in favor of either side, so till Jk says something or new side books come out It's gonna be pretty close.

That makes more sense to me the more I think about it. If this half blood prince is going to have a big impact, the character has to be somebody we know.

Exactly!!! In order to be a big character, you have to have details about the person, and if the person was NEW, there wouldn't BE very many details about them.

I agree; this person sounds like they will most likely have magical powers, so therefore they most likely go to Hogwarts.

i had this awful feeling that it was going to be malfoy or someone
then i remembered malfoy was pureblood but i cant think of
anyone who would suit the part. for one wild moment i thought
of krum but he might not even be intoduced in this book and
would they have accepted him into Durmstrang if he wasnt
pureblood. i think that if its someone already at hogwarts then
it will be someone eitheer barely mentioned or someone you'd
never think of. Thats why i reckon its someone we dont know!

I don't think that the lion person is a student; that just doesn't feel right to me at all. I'm pretty sure that it is someone we least expect; one of the characters that doesn't. . . jump out at you. . . I guess that's the term I'd use.

Yeah I read somewhere that she wasn't going to introduce a new character as the HBP.. probably because there are only 2 books left *tear* So it would be pretty pointless to put in a new character... especially if the book is named after him! So it is probably some character that we will least expect

if u wanna know my opinion.It is surely Hagrid(dont rub ur eyes in disbelief,ya it is Hagrid, dont u all remember? his mother was a giantess and father a wizard so ........................................ half blood u see after all JKR has conformed that half blood prince is neither harry nor Voldy(sorry i said his name, I mean You-Know-Who). B)
