Title: should it happen?
Description: what if discussion
REMY-SALINAS - April 29, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
with alot of movies coming out with prequels such as star wars, star trek, lord of the rings and so on i was wondering if a book based on the marauder years would be a good idea. Now i know it will probably never happen but thats not what im asking what im asking is if you would want to read a book based on the mauraders years at hogwarts and if so why
katie - April 29, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
I would love a book based on the marauders era, they facinate me and i think it would be quiet a funny read. Also i read alot of marauders era fanfiction on another site and i would love to see how J.K imagined them. But then again its nice to have that era where you can create and imagine what happened for yourself so i dont know now. thanks alot for making me think, i used to be sure now.... grrr. lol

Dude! I would love to read it. In a way James and Lily are my favorite characters in the book. And I love the way that JKR takes the shine off of James a bit by making him out to be a bully. Was he really or is that memory twisted a bit by Snape’s jealousy. Tell us!!! I would love to know. I am sure that afterwards I would feel like I do about Star Wars I, II, III, but I am still one of the people who would open Pandora’s box. I think my favorite part would be learning about Lily. She fascinates me.
Good job Remy. It had never even occurred to me that this could happen.

I would if they actually acted like teenagers unlike Harry and co. Well they did in the 6th book but not much in all the rest :P
Personally though I don't really care. None of the marauders really were likable people I think. Remus was perhaps the nicest one but then he turned out to be a douchebag anyway so eh?
Though I always prefer characters with bad qualities then typical all good ones. I think I really started to hate Harry by the end of the series and book 7 made me love Ron all the more so maybe I would actually enjoy a marauder era book.

I think it would be a great idea. I'd love to read it if only to continue with the fantasy! We're pretty sure there won't be any more HP books (unless JKR decides to do a later-life catch-up book in a few years) so the thought of something new to look forward to that's still in Harry Potter world, it would keep the dream alive! It would be interesting to see how she would form the characters that we know so well as grown ups. All the marauders are fascinating as they were so well written, they're more or less real people. It'd almost be like an autobiography or a 'This is your life' lol

I don't think I'd like it. Seeing how they made the Maruaders map, and seeing sketches of the entire map (think LotR concept art) would be cool, but that's all really.
Shonk Da 'Onk - May 1, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
Concept art is love!
Why though Sardino?
Sardine - May 1, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
Why though what? WHy would I want to see concept art for the map? Well, because I'd like to every part of Hogwarts. We don't really know much about the school.
Now, a book about Hogwarts with pictures and stuff would be cool.
ladeeknight - May 1, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
Sort of like Hogwarts a History Sardine? But with pictures. When i read your post i was thinking of a series of books that have been out in the US for a while. They have Wizardology, Dragonology and a couple of other. They are really cool coffee table books with fantastic pictures and all kind off little pockets that hold stuff like tiny wands and dragons teeth. If they made a book like that for Hogwarts that would rock.
To get back on topic, I completely agree with Ankaa. The maurauders have such interesting grown up personalities that it would wonder to see the scenes from childhood that made them like that. We would watch the scene where Serius gets outsted from his house and has to go live with James, and we'd see the boys run wild through the hill, watch James and Lilly fall in love. It'd be great.

I would personally love it as well. Sirius was one of my favorite characters and I always fascinated about why they would have ever allowed Wormtail to be in their group. I would have loved reading about Lupin being turned, and the other guys deciding to become animaguses, watching them learn how to do it. Seeing more of Lily and Snape growing up together even to fully understand all of that since we were really only teased with it in the last book. I would love to have seen what it was like for Sirius to grow up in the Black family, and see what James's parents were like. She gave us tantalizing glimpses into a past that was really very interesting to me and I would love to have the opportunity to see more of it.

Ive officially decided yes i would love a book on the marauders! their fascinating. adn my absolut favourite characters so being able to read about their friendship would be great. we'd be able to find out if james and sirius were really the players their made out to be and sirius horrible life.
REMY-SALINAS - May 3, 2008 06:50 AM (GMT)
Hmm i dont know if i would want to read a book on the marauders to be honest. If only because i know the future....let me explain i just dont see how i can feel any suspense i mean if i see lily going on a date with sirius will i get all upset? no because i know eventually she winds up with james or will i get scared when lupin gets attacked nope because i know that he survives it so it kinda takes a bit of the whole suspense thing out of it for me. I mean for now i can look back and picture things like i want them to be good or bad :P
dreamdancer7699 - May 3, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
To me that's like saying you should only read a book or watch a movie one time because if you watch or read it again, then what's the point cause you already know what happens. LOL. I have movies that I've seen 50 times, and books that I've read so many times that the edges of the pages are frayed. But I keep watching and reading them because the story is so good. Which is exactly why I would enjoy reading about the Marauders so much. :)
REMY-SALINAS - July 4, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
alright so most of you guys have said you'd be willng to read a book based on the mauraders and there adventures but would you only want to read it if it was jkr writing it or would you still read it if any one wrote it??
ladeeknight - July 4, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
Remy a book about the Marauders would be one of those books that you read for the journey not for the goal. I would read it to enjoy watching relationships grow even though I know pretty much the shape they will take in the future.
And yes I would only read Marauders book if it was written by JKR. Otherwise it is just another fan fiction.

I'd love to read a book about the Marauders. I'd imagine that Jo might put in a few bits and pieces that we've already seen (Snape's worst memory would be interesting from another point of view!) and that would be very cool but I'm sure she'd find a new story to tell us about them all. I'd also love to see a story from after they left school, when the original Order was up and running.

I would absolutely read a book about the Marauders. I love that concept. But honestly, wouldn't any HP fan want to read more about the wizarding world?! I constantly daydream about the Marauders anyway though so I could be bias. I would only buy the book if JKR wrote it. I can access fan fiction for free anytime I want.
I've been wanting JKR to write Hogwarts: A History forever. We hear so much about it in the series and I think it would be fascinating to learn more about Hogwarts (my favorite place in the HP series).
She is coming out with that encyclopedia sometime in the near future so maybe we will learn more about the Marauders and Hogwarts. :) I kinda hope that the encyclopedia is mostly about charcters she left out of the books or didn't give a history to though. I just think it would be cool to explore uncharted waters. Whatever it's about, I know it will be great and I can't wait!!!
REMY-SALINAS - July 9, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
i myself wouldnt mind if someone else wrote a book about the hp world if it was given the ok by jkr herself. It's like the star wars universe sure theres lots of fan fics in net world that you can get for free but the only REAL future of the series is the one in the books
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 9, 2008 07:56 AM (GMT)
Nah I'd only get it if it was the original writer. She put so much into creating the HP universe and I would hate to see her give it up to just any other writer who thinks they have a good plot.
Sardine - July 9, 2008 06:19 PM (GMT)
I don't think I'd buy it. Maybe I'll get it out of the library a year or two later.

Wait?! Lord of the rings? They're making another Lord Of The Rings Remy? I didn't know that. How are they going to do that?
