Title: Reviewing
Description: A 'How To'

Sardine - February 24, 2008 11:12 AM (GMT)
There are loads of Short Stories, Fanfics, Journals, and Poems here on the LC. And that's good. It's great that so many of you are creative and enjoy writing. But I've noticed that a lot of these threads contain more SPAM than story/poem. I realise that this is for fun stories, and that post count is turned off here, but that doesn't mean you must SPAM. I also realise that this isn't a writing forum, and that most of you probably just want to show your work, as opposed to getting help.

So I thought I'd make this - short - guide. It won't be very strict, so don't worry; you can still have your fun.

How to review

When posting a reply to a story/fanfic/poem/journal, don't do the following:

1.)Post a one-worder.
2.)Post a few words, and use a whole lot of '!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' 's, or other punctuation marks.

When posting, at least try to give a bit of advice. I understand that these are your friends, and I'm not saying you must completely diss them and their work or something. Post all your yay's and what not, but try and make the post actually mean something.

Examples

Wrong:
OMG! Awesome!

Right:
OMG! That was such an awesome chapter! I love the suspense, and the detail. When will the next chapter be up.

Wrong:
Man, that poem sucked!

Right:
I wasn't so found of that poem. It didn't seem to flow nicely.

Wrong:
Yay! I'm in your journal!

Right:
Yay! Thanks for putting me in your journal. I can't wait to see what happens next. Don't make me do anything stupid :)

Obviously with fanfics I expect a little more, but as long as there's some constructive crit, even if it just says "Add more detail", that's fine :)

The final thing is punctuation and spelling.
Like I've said before; I know this isn't a writing forum. But there are some stories out there that are quite difficult to read at times, due to the fact that there's no punctuation. If you want someone to read over a chapter or journal entry and just check, PM me and ask. I'll be more than happy to help :)

If you have any questions/queries/complaints, please post them here.

Happy posting.
