Title: Unfogging the Future
Description: prying open the all seeing eye

Lethal Ink - January 7, 2008 05:14 AM (GMT)
Sil sat staring into a crystal ball he'd brought to the library with him, occasionally turning his attention to one of the books stacked nearby, primarily Cassandra Vablatsy's Unfogging the Future. Unfortunately, he could find no entry telling what fog might portend--he'd thought as much--and had to assume that he was doing something wrong.

Maybe if I had someone's future to read? he thought, looking around the room.

Melie walked into the library and looked around for someone that she knew. She wasn't really there to study tho, she was bored to tears and wanted someone to talk to. Finally she saw Sil in the corner looking into a crystal ball and occasionally back at the book sitting next to him. Melie, being the curious girl she was, headed over in his direction, wondering what he was doing. He looked up as she got to the table he was at and slid silently into the seat across from him.
"Hi Sil!" Melie exclaimed quietly. "Whatchya up to?" Melie peered into the crystal ball and didn't see anything and then looked back at Sil.

Sil saw Melie walk in and look around. She looked as if she were looking for someone to talk to, and he gave a friendly smile when she walked over to him.

"Hey, there. I'm supposed to be practicing reading the future, but it doesn't seem to be working very well."

He looked back at the crystal ball. It was still full of fog, but the fog seemed to be doing something now; he almost thought he could see a pulsating light within.

"Hey, mind if I practice on you? I'll understand if you'd rather not know what the future holds, but you'd be helping me out a great deal."

doratheauror - January 7, 2008 05:41 AM (GMT)
Melie looked back into the crystal ball after Sil looked back into, she still couldn't see anything in it and just shrugged.
"Really?" Melie asked excitedly to his offer of practicing on her.
"Am I your first victim?" Melie asked him and then clapped her hand over her mouth. "Er. I mean am I the first person you'll have tried to tell the future with?" She looked away slightly as she started to blush after she spoke before thinking. "So how does this thing work anyways?" Melie asked, still peering into the ball and still not seeing anything. She finally gave up and sat back in her chair, wondering what her future held.

Lethal Ink - January 7, 2008 05:56 AM (GMT)
Sil laughed when Melie asked if she was his first victim then looked embarassed about it--he'd been thinking the same thing himself.

"I guess that remains to be seen," he said. He looked at the book. "Okay, it says here to relax and clear your mind. It doesn't say if that's what both of us are supposed to do or just me, but I guess it won't hurt if you're relaxed, too."

He read on. "Okay, it says there's no point in asking specific questions, as the 'eye sees not on command.'" He put down the book and took a deep breath, trying to quiet his mind.

"Ready?" he asked before peering into the ball again.

doratheauror - January 7, 2008 06:05 AM (GMT)
Melie watched Sil as he read the book and told her she should relax. She closed her eyes and took a couple of deep breaths and then started to think. Oooo I can't wait to see what my future holds! Or who's in it!
Melie opened her eyes again looking straight at Sil, a gleam in her eye. And nodded seriously.
"I'm ready!" she exclaimed trying to hide her excitement. Ever since she had found out that Sil was a seer she had been dying to have him tell her her future.

Sil was a bit disapointed when we looked into the ball. Still there was only fog. Relax! he told himself. He took another deep breath and tried not to think about what a horrible job he was doing or about how Melie would be disappointed if he didn't see anything--and then he did notice something.

The fog was swirled and the pulsating light blinking faster. Then the ball grew dark and the fog--stark white against the darkness-- began to take form.

"I see a figure on a broomstick. You play quidditch, don't you? But now it's falling. I think you might have an accident soon." Then the fog swirled again and took on a new shape.

"Two figure standing together, but moving apart. Then back together. You and Liam will have a fight, but you'll forgive each other quickly. It will even help you grow closer. And... Hmm... A distraction. I don't know what, but make sure to study hard in the next two weeks; you'll be in danger of falling behind in your classes." Then the ball filled with pale light and fog again.

Sil blinked and looked up at Mel, surprised. "Wow. That's the most I've ever been able to see. I hope it helps you."

Erin was walking out of the library with a large stack of books, but curiously hadn't stopped at the checkout desk to check them out. She saw Melie and Sil, and wondered what they were doing, until she noticed the crystal ball.

"You do know those things don't really help all that much... the only things they really do is give a seer more confidence, and put on a nice show for the person whose fortune is being told... right?"

Erin said, and set her books down near Melie.

Sil frowned at Erin. "Well, I am just getting the hang of this whole Seer thing," he said. "Confidence is exactly what I need right now."

He looked back down at the ball. "What about you, Erin? Care to see what the fates have in store?"

Leona heard that Sil had been practicing his abilities in the library and she rushed interested to know something about her own future. She walked right up to him and stood next to Pyrii. "I want mine read!" she almost shouted, excited to know.

pyrii - January 7, 2008 09:40 AM (GMT)
"Well I think you should probably read Leo's first... besides, we all know mine will probably involve some sort of misfortune, and probably explosion or something."

Erin said, brushing it off. She was somewhat interested in seeing what the future held in store for her, but she wasn't that interested. Not so much as Leo was. She stepped aside, and summoned a bag, and started stuffing books inside it, taking one quick glance towards the librarian's desk.

"I knew you were afraid," Sil said jokingly to Erin. "I guess I'll do yours then," he said to Leo.

He focused on the ball and watched the light and the fog swim, the solidify. Wait, he thought, I'm not trying to see the weather. He thumbed through the book, looking for rain and sunshine together.

"Ah. You have a troubled love life. I see sorrow mixed with great joy. You will be separated from the one you love by great distance, but that will not temper your love. I also see much success in you life. Studies, music, friendships. There is sadness in these aspects as well, but constructive sadness. The loss of some friends causes you to hold the ones you keep that much dearer. In sad times, you pour yourself into your studies, your work, your music. These things comfort you; at the same time, the extra work brings great rewards."

The images began to fade, but he saw one last thing, he knew there was more than what he was seeing, but it was fading too quickly. "The child is in danger," he finnished. "Guard the child close."

sailorleo - January 7, 2008 10:24 AM (GMT)
Leo was taken a back, everything he was talking about was so true. Except...What about a child? Leo was unable to have children, but Sil was a seer, he had to be right, right? Leo slowly began getting a headache from it all. She knew he had meant being separated from Dalejin, which always happened. He always had places to be, and what not. She was saddened to know that it would continue. She was about to ask about the child, but she couldn't bring her self to do it.

doratheauror - January 7, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Melie was wrapped up in what Sil had predicted for her future that she didn't notice Erin and Leo come up to their table. Melie was in a little daze until she saw Leo sitting there contemplating what Sil had told her with a sad look on her face. Melie thought about her own future. An accident! With quidditch! Melie was suprised, she was a great flyer and had never been hurt before, she wondered when this was going to happen. And a fight with Liam! They had never even had a small tiff in the past, what was going to make them get into an argument. And what was this distraction?! She had so many questions still to ask Sil but she didn't want to hog all his time, Erin still had to have her future told.
"Ooooo thanks Sil! Is that little ball going to tell you anything about me?" Melie asked with wonder looking back into the ball, she couldn't help but ask for more, she was too much of a curious person.

Lethal Ink - January 7, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
Sil looked at Melie, somewhat alarmed. "But I..." he stammered. "I've already told you what I saw." Then a passage from the book he had found at his family estate in Italy occured to him.

"If something is unclear, perhaps it is far off," he told her, paraphrasing the Latin text. "You will understand these predictions as events draw nearer. The future is always uncertain."

Scarlett had been watching the future reading scene from a few tables over. She was glad that Sil was getting so much practice, but she couldn’t help but think that his predictions were about on a level with the lady at the muggle carnival her Gram always scoffed at. That was until she heard what he said to Leo about the child. Leo looked really shaken up by the prediction as well. But she had asked for it. That was the trouble with the future, it was like fire and if you played with it…

Scarlett decided to she been a voyeur long enough. She came over to the table. “Hi girls,” she greeted Sil’s customers, “Hi Sil, you are looking particularly sharp today. How is your practice going?”

OoC: I love your new banner. Who knew you were so hansome? ;)

Lethal Ink - January 7, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
Sil grinned when he saw Scarlett, and he wondered if she might have any pointers for him, her grandmother being a famous Seer and all.

"Well," he said. "I know I've got a long way to go yet, but at least I'm seeing something other than fog. It's really exciting, and I want all the practice I can get, but it's also very exhausting. I din't expect that."

doratheauror - January 7, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
Melie looked at Sil her jaw dropping.
"I didn't mean to be rude Sil?" Melie stammered when she saw the alarmed look on his face. "I'm just über curious! Now I want to know why Liam and I are gonna fight! I mean, just so I can be prepared, I'm not very good at suprises, they annoy me really, because usually they're not good." Melie realised that she was babbling and quickly shut her mouth. "Thanks for telling me what you did tho," Melie mumbled and smiled at him. Melie looked back at Leo who still didn't seem to be better at her prediction. Melie put her arm around her friend. "It's ok Leo. It didn't seem like a bad prediction to me! You're going to have a child! That's great!" Melie said hopeing that she was helping her friend and not making it worse.

ladeeknight - January 7, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
“Expect to be wiped out,” Scarlett told Sil. She actually wouldn’t be surprised if he passed out cold in the library. “And Melie, what’s the fun in life with no surprises. If you are constantly looking ahead you will miss what is just in front of you. Don’t worry about your fight with Liam. All couples fight eventually. I would actually be more worried if Sil had seen no fight.” Scarlett didn’t really know what to say to Leo. She still looked a little stunned by her prediction and that worried Scarlett. Melie’s reaction of wanting to know more about her future was more the norm as far as Scarlett had observed. It was the clients of her Gram’s that got all quiet and spooked that usually had problems with their futures. Scarlett was curious just exactly what Sil had seen to make him choose those words to say to Leo. She wouldn’t ask though, especially in front of Leo. One of the burdens of a Seer was to try to sugar coat a bad future in a way that is helpful and comforting to the Listener, even when what you see is bleak.

sailorleo - January 8, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
Leo shook her head when her friends asked her if she was okay, "no, I'm fine," she said with a some what forced smile. "Besides that chold he's referring to might not even be mine, it could be someone else's...besides. I'd much rather hear Scarlett's fortune, if the master is up for it," she said to Sil.

pyrii - January 8, 2008 06:50 AM (GMT)
"Ah.... perhaps another time, Seer Venitucci... you seem to have more customers than you expected."

Erin said, and slung the bag to her shoulder. She thought she saw a couple more girls looking as if they were going to approach Sil for their fortunes as well, and she started to think she was going to leave.

"Erin wait," Scarlett whisper called, so as not to upset the libraian. "I uh... am not really allowed to have my future told. And I don't really want to know. I just came to watch." Scarlett hoped Erin would have her turn. It was sure to be exciting at the very least.

REMY-SALINAS - February 4, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
Remy walked into the library hoping to sit quietly in the corner and maybe color for a bit when he noticed a small crowd in the corner. Feeling quite curious he tried to overhear what was being said but all he heard were mumbling and that was not the way to eavesdrop. He really wished he had an extendable ear at the moment but unfortunately he did not so he got up and walked over smiling as he saw everyone "hi guys" he said with a small nod of the head.

ladeeknight - February 5, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
Scarlett heard a familiar voice greet them all and she turned to smile at its owner. “Hello Remy. How are you? Sil is practicing his fortune telling skills,” she said by way of explanation for their slightly louder than usual group. Scarlett wondered if Remy would ask to have his told.

REMY-SALINAS - February 7, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
Practicing huh? he said as he stood watching. He hoped sil would tell someones fortune soon as he was a bit curious to see what fortune telling looked like. He imagined smoke and spooky voices and candles flickering on and off but wait there was no candles here he thought as he looked around. He looked at scarlett "so whose fortune is he telling now"

ladeeknight - February 7, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
"No one's at the moment," Scarlett answered Remy in a low voice. "The line got a little tangled after I showed up, but he did all right with Melie and Leo's future. I can't have mine read, so you can go next." Scarlett nudged Remy a bit closer. "Sil I have your next victim," she said teasingly.
