Title: Sweeney Todd
Description: Johnny Depp meets Harry Potter?

dreamdancer7699 - November 29, 2007 06:28 AM (GMT)
OMG! I just saw the most awesome trailer last night and no one has posted about it yet, so I decided to be the first! :D

Johnny Depp has a new movie coming out and it's got two of HP actors in it! Not only that but it looks AMAZING! Johnny Depp plays a character named Benjamin Barker, a man unjustly imprisoned by a lecherous judge. The story is about a grisly revenge by Barker who after being released from his imprisonment, returns as barber Sweeney Todd and exacts revenge. The movie has a decidedly Tim Burton kind of feel to it, and the previews left me thinking of Johnny in his role as Edward Scissorhands. Playing alongside him are our very own Professor Snape (Alan Rickman) and Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter)!!! If that's not an all star cast, I dont know what it! Rickman plays the lecherous judge, and Carter plays Sweeney's crazed and twisted possible romantic partner who is Sweeney's only friend in the world!

Credited Cast include:

Johnny Depp ... Sweeney Todd
Helena Bonham Carter ... Mrs. Lovett
Alan Rickman ... Judge Turpin
Timothy Spall ... Beadle Bamford
Sacha Baron Cohen ... Signor Adolfo Pirelli
Jayne Wisener ... Johanna
Jamie Campbell Bower ... Anthony Hope
Laura Michelle Kelly ... Beggar Woman
Ed Sanders ... Tobias Ragg
Anthony Head ... Ballad Ghost
Peter Bowles ... Ballad Ghost
Michael N. Harbour ... Jonas Fogg
Ian Burford

Mmmmm. Mincemeat pie! :firedevil:

dreamdancer7699 - November 29, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
I am dying of laughter right now, Sil and I'm not even sure why. that was COMPLETELY random! I have no idea why this thread made you think of pie, so all I'll going to say is.... ok..........................

*walks away, cracking up hysterically and still not understanding why but unable to stop*

Lethal Ink - November 29, 2007 03:11 PM (GMT)
If you don't know why Swweny Todd makes me think of pie, I won't ruin it for you. Enjoy the movie; I know I will.

Purr - November 29, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
Looks like a interesting movie. I will probably watch it when it comes out. Lethal Ink, does it have a basis in a book or something? You seem to know about it already.

Lethal Ink - November 29, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
It was originaly a short novel... a 'penny dreadful.' It's shown up variously as a play or musical for about 150 years. If you don't want to know too much about the story, do yourself a favor and don't look it up. I'll just say Depp's role in this movie will be closer to hs character from Secret Window than Edward Scissorhands.

pyrii - November 29, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
I saw the preview for this last weekend. Looks interesting, and I LOVE Tim Burton films. And since there is a book thing, could I get the author's name Sil? Maybe I will look it up and read it before the movie comes out. I find books are usually alot better than the movies of them. Harry Potter, LOTR being prime examples.

Jurassic Park (the original) was the only real movie that did justice to it's book I think.

The story first appeared in a colection called, The Pepoles Periodical. But, like I said, that was over 150 years ago. No one knows conclusively who wrote it, but it's commonly attributed to Thomas (Prest, Priest?). It would probably be easier to find the play version written by Christopher Bond back in the seventies (Sweeny Todd), or the 1998 movie staring Ben Kingsly (The Tale of Sweeny Todd). If you watched Jersey Girl then you saw part of the musical.

And yeah, I actually watched Jersey Girl, in case anyone's wondering. But I didn't want to; she made me do it; guys, you know what I'm talking about.

dreamdancer7699 - November 30, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
Sil, if you're talking about what he does to Mrs. Lovett, then I know a spoiler about that, which makes me think that's what the pie reference is about. And yeah I say that it was a musical for a long time. I did see Jersey Girl, but only once, wasn't too fond of it, so I don't really recall the play.

I saw the trailer for this movie. It looked kind of bizarre. But it's a Johnny Depp movie, so duh. I did recognize Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman. I might just have to see this movie...

Ankaa - December 9, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman all in one film - It's too much to bear, I'm drooling so much.... I've got to wait till January 08 for it AAAAGH

dreamdancer7699 - December 9, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
I dont know about the Tim Burton thing guys. I'm saying that it has the FEEL of a Tim Burton Movie. All dark, sinister, gloomy with a dark humor around all of it. I wouldn't be surprised if he did it, but I dont know if he did.

ladeeknight - December 9, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
It's Tim Burton for sure. I just saw a commercial for it.

Twilight - December 10, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
Yes, it's definitely Tim Burton. It opens here on Dec. 21. Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman! Wow! I can hardly wait!

Shonk Da 'Onk - December 14, 2007 08:43 AM (GMT)
Singing serial killer . . . I'm definitely seeing it . . . even if it didn't have Johnny Depp on it :D

Sardine - December 19, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
*reads Twi's post... eyes go wide*

Twilight - December 20, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
Yes, Johnny Depp AND Alan Rickman, plus Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) and Timothy Spall (Wormtail). And some of them are going to sing! This ought to be too much fun!

Sardine - December 20, 2007 08:32 AM (GMT)
*faints*
I just want Johnny and Alan.
I hope Johnny sings.
*grins from ear to ear*

Ankaa - December 20, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
They'll all be singing - it's a musical!!!

Helena Bonham Carter even had to audition, despite being Tim Burton's real life partner...

Sardine - December 21, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)

OMIFRIGGINGOSH!

I must see that movie! I don't care that I'm double-posting! Oh Johnny *sigh*. He's sooooo... what's the word? HOT! I can't wait 'till it comes out here.. which we probably take months, but... Johnny! *foams at the mouth* I'm crazy, I know.

hot - December 22, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
It's supposed to be really gory and graphic, all the more reason to see it! Apparently Sweeney slices people up with his razor and bakes them into pies. ^_^

Awww. You told. :P
Yup, hence my mincemeat pie comment. Actually, it's his girlfriend that does the baking. And they become the best selling pies in London; make her little bakery famous overnight.

Sardine - January 3, 2008 03:52 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind a Johnny-Pie *wink,wink*

Ankaa - January 4, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't say no to an Alan-pie either!

I've just ordered the soundtrack from Amazon, and I'm really hoping it gets here before the film opens!

Ankaa - January 4, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
Ok I know I double posted too, but I couldn't resist when I saw this. Forgive me.......

No forgiveness needed, IMO. You deserve the Order of Merlin, First Class!

Carry on posting! :)

Logan Devonwood - January 6, 2008 10:11 AM (GMT)
This was quite possibly one of the best films I've ever seen in my life.

The End.

^_^

Ankaa - January 6, 2008 06:19 PM (GMT)
We need more info Logan!

How was the singing? Is there more singing than talking? Is Alan looking hot?

These are the things we need to know.....lol

Sardine - January 6, 2008 06:33 PM (GMT)
Ankaa, do you want hear Alan sing?
And I think Alan looks great with the orangey-coloured stubble in one of the promo pictures. Mmmm...

Ankaa - January 6, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
I would like to hear Alan singing just for me *floats off into a dreamworld of Alan serenading...*

Sorry, i get easily distracted around Herr Rickman.

Anyway, I posted a link of Alan and Johnny singing (check back a couple of posts...)

Sardine - January 6, 2008 06:43 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I saw that. They're amazing.
Alan's also sung in a number of other movies.. and he played the cello while singing! I think I saved the link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ52td1GMT0&feature=related
I don't know if you've seen it, but I doubt one can get tired of hearing Alan sing :D
Dreeeaaaamy!

EDIT: Here's a Behind the Scenes clip of Johnny and Alan singing. Again, I don't know if you've seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OoO_poyOCs&feature=related

These are the things we need to know.....lol

Okay Info:

There is a lot of singing. There is some actual dialogue, but just be aware, that big chunks of the plot are discussed in song.

The singing was actually pretty good. Depp has a great voice, as does Ms. Carter. A young boy in the film who plays Toby was surprisingly amazing....Rickman on the other hand...well...he was a good choice for the role. However, I wasn't overly impressed with his singing. It was okay...but he really couldn't carry some of the melodies.

Rickman looking hot...do you really want me to answer that?

Overall: SEE THIS MOVIE!

**Oh! And now: :wizard: HARRY POTTER PEOPLES:**

We know the first two:
Bellatrix Lestrange
Professor Snape

but now:

PETER PETTIGREW IS IN THE MOVIE!!!! And he has a small song ^_^ Rejoice my friends

Sardine - January 8, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
I think that Alan can't carry out the melody because of his voice. He was born with some jaw problem or something, hence his deep, silky-smooth voice. So, I'm not complaining about that little problem of his. :D :P

In the behind the scenes clip I posted, Toby sings. He's quite good.

I can't wait to see the movie.

Intricate Logic - January 26, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)
Oh my gosh, best movie ever eer ever.

What is better than Johnny Depp singing?!?!

Maybe Johnny Depp singing with 3 HP actors?

Want to know what's even better than that?

It's directed by Tim Burton.

I bought the soundtrack right after I saw the movie and I know almost every word to every song. My friends and I sing Sweeney Todd all day at school. Even when we're on the computer, we type the lyrics to each other (btw, dont try to type all the words to The Worst Pies in London to someone as fast as you can. The song is longer than it seems. ;) )

Ankaa - January 26, 2008 11:13 AM (GMT)
Oh. My. God. This film makes me want to cry, it's so beautifully perfect!

Tim Burton, Helena Bonham-Carter, Johnny Depp and, last but not least, Alan Rickman! How could this film be bad???!!

I was pleasantly surprised that after a few minutes I didn't even notice they were singing. OK, so the songs are complicated and the melodies are difficult, but they carry the story forward so well it's impossible to imagine what the film would be like without them.

I seriously need to watch this again...at least four more times...oh and did I mention Alan Rickman has some seriously tight trousers on *swoon*

Sardine - January 27, 2008 09:56 AM (GMT)
Where are you looking, Ankaa? o_O :P

I'm still waiting for it to come out here

I can't wait for it. I've already watched the clips over and over again. *sigh*

Logan Devonwood - January 28, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
O_O

It still hasn't come out around you!? -_- Dear, dear Sardine. I do apologize
