Title: Flying Practice
Description: Um..for Em and Scarlett & maybe Mark..
Emma Potter - November 9, 2007 11:10 PM (GMT)
Emma walked out onto the quidtich pitch, her ravenclaw quidtich uniform already on. Grabbing her Cleansweep broom, and other Cleansweep broom, she waited outside in the stands for Scarlett. She was really excited, and appreciated Scarlett asking her for help.
It was pretty earlier in the morning, around 8 o'cock, which was early for some, not for Emma who had been up and working out since 5. She looked around the fall landscape, hoping to see her friend.

Scarlett walked out to the Quiditch feild in a pair of white ridding britches and a red sweater. She carried a mug of coffee in one hand and her riding helmet in the other. Scarlett had had no idea what to wear on an occation such as this but she figured that her saddle club duds would be fine. Her hair was pulled back in a french twist and she wore the darkest blackest sunglasses she owned. Scarlett was not a morning person, but Emma had set the time and was doing her the favor.
When she walked up to Emma she displayed what was tucked into her riding helmet. "The thermos is filled with warm water and I got this blue mug for you, because it seemed Ravenclaw-ish. I wanted to thank you for takin' the time to teach me how to do this."

Emma took the blue mug that Scarlett had gotten for her. "Thankyou. I guess it is a little cold out here!" she said with a grin. "My uniform is built for weather like this, because people play quidtich in any kind of weather!" she added.
Grabbing the broom she had gotten for Scarlett, she handed it to her friend while saying.."So how much do you know about the sport? Can you kick off the ground, can you fly?" she asked, trying to get a feel of how experienced her friend was.

"I have never been on a broom by myself in my life," Scarlett said honestly taking the broom from Emma. It felt funny in her hands for she always held onto the person in front of her when she flew. "I am afraid you are going to have to begin at the beginning."
Emma Potter - November 14, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
Emma recovered quickly from a little shock that Scarlett had never ridden a broom. "Ok..you know what..that is completely fine because I taught both of my sisters who are now playing at Beauxbatons. We will have you pro in no time!" she said with a grin.
Sliding her leg over her broom, she looked at Scarlett.."I want you do what I do. Slide your right leg over your broom but do not put your weight on it. When I say "GO", I want you to kick with your domiante leg off of the ground, while you put your weight on the broom!" she said.
"GO", she yelled and kicked off into the air, hovering several feet above the ground.

Scarlett watched Emma carefully and tried to copy her. Scarlett was a righty so she kicked off with her right leg putting her weight on the broom. It fell like a normal muggle broom would do if put under the same circumstances, and Scarlett fell with it into a heap on the ground. She took a deep breath keeping her temper under tight reign. Really who gets this on the first try, she thought to herself. She picked her broom up off the ground and prepared to try again.
Emma Potter - November 16, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
Emma looked down at Scarlett and started to laugh, swinging over her broom and landing on the ground. "When you kick off, you want to force it into the air a little bit. So kick off in a forward upward motion, like you are launching into the air, ok?" she said, and swung back onto her broom again and kicked off. "GO" she said, and watched.

Scarlett climbed back on the broom. Something that Emma said had clicked in her mind. This was not like riding a bike or even a horse for that matter. She wanted to go up not forward. Scarlett kicked off with all her might and the broom rose and hovered. Scarlett didn’t like the feeling of only the broom keeping her up. She wasn’t particularly afraid of heights but it was unnerving to her to be riding a broom when she was used to a 1500 lb. animal holding her up and propelling her forward. “Ok Emma, I’m up. Now how do I go?”
Emma Potter - November 26, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
Emma hovered around Scarlett.."Wow that was a really good. You did it perfect." she said and saw that Scarlett was a little uncertain about only having a broom to hold her up. "Dont worry, these things are have spells on them to make them safer!" she said and then added.."I want you to try to keep your balance even. Lean forward slightly with your body, and use the front end of the broom to point in the direction you want to go." she said, leaning forward on her own broom.."Try to follow me." she said, slowly moving forward through the air, her body weight and balance helping direct the broom.

Scarlett carefully leaned forward on the broom pointing the handle in the direction of the bristles in Emma's broom. This wasn't all that different from riding a horse Scarlett thought. The steering was a little different, but "go" was kinda the same. That reminded Scarlett of something. "Hey Emma," she called, "Before we get going too fast will you tell me how to stop this thing."
Emma Potter - December 30, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
Emma flew back around to Scarlett when she heard her friend ask how to brake. "I guess that would be a good thing to know, eh?" she said jokingly. "It's really simple. Like horseback riding. Just pull up on it, like this!" she said, grabbing the top of her broom and pulling up on it. "And to accelerate, lean forward!" she said with a grin, as she leaned forward and shot quickly through the air on her firebolt. Coming back around, she said.."Let me see you try!"
