Lilly Potter is the biggest hero in the books. She gives her life to save her child. Other mothers will protest that isn't such a hard thing to do. In fact it is in the job description. But the way that Lilly does it is so grand as to leave the impression of her loved wrapped around her son, steadfastly protecting him even after she can no longer chase nightmares away with her laughter or kiss a skinned knee. JK Rowling makes many of her mothers this way. Lilly is the most obvious one, but Mrs. Weasley is a hell of a mother too. Overbearing and nosey, sure, but excepting and comforting and loving. And brave too She takes on Bellatrix La Strage single handedly and wins. And if you look very closely at Narcissa Malfoy you will see true courage there too. She lied to a man who was very capable, very willing to kill her and her whole family, a man who was a proven mother killer, in order to get the chance, just the chance, to save her son. I am sure all this mother loving is an accident since JK Rowling is a mother herself. And she expresses motherly feelings toward the character of Harry. So lets hear for The Mums of the Harry Potter Books.

Oh yeah they were awesome. Even Petunia loved her Dudders so much and would have gladly thrown down anything and done anything to keep him safe and protected. You're right Scarlett. The roles of mothers was portrayed beautifully by JKR.

I never even thought of Petunia Dream. I guess because I associate her with being Harry's Aunt not Dudley's mom. I wouldn't say she's the best mom, but like Nacissa I am sure she would sacrifice anything for her son.

I've never thought of Petunia either, good point Dream. Rowling does portray mothers very well in this book. I don't know if it has anything to do with being a mother herself, it probably does but whatever. Point made.
