Title: Drusha's First Letter Home

Drusha - August 9, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
Dear Mum and Dad,

Dru began, tapping the nib of her quill on the edge of her ink bottle. The sun shined brightly through the roof of the owlry, givng the ink on her parchment a purplish color until it dried.

My first few days at school have been interesting. Dad, everyone liked the pasties on the train. Maybe it will help business pick up on Hogsmede visits!

She told her parents a little bit about the argument she had with Cara on the train, even though she knew they would not be happy to hear it. "Sometimes you've more stubborn than sense," her father would often say when she had gotten into similar situations with her brothers.

I'm sure we'll be good friends after we get to know each other better. How could we do otherwise being in the same house and all?

Dru nibbled on her quill, pausing to think about how she was going to break the news to he parents that she was sorted into Slytherin. It wasn't that she thought they'd take it hard. It was just... very unexpected.

Mum, thanks for the red and gold scarf you knitted for me. it's much nicer than the school ones. I was wondering though, if you might have time to knit one for me in green and silver?

The screech owl that Drusha had chosen from the school owls to deliver her letter pecked at her hand impatiently. "Just a minute," Dru scolded with a laugh. "I'm not done yet. Besides, nobody says you have to sit right here and wait. I need to tell my parents about being in Slytherin, and I don't want to rush." She giggled at the owl, who hooted at her as if it understood everything she had just said.

She looked over her shoulder now and then as she wrote, seeing several other students come and go with letters to be delivered. She was hoping to maybe run into some of the others who she shared a compartment with on the Hogwarts Express. Still feeling very new at Hogwarts, she was eager to make some new friends.

Emma Potter - August 9, 2007 09:17 PM (GMT)
Emma was on her way to the lake when she saw her owl fly into the Owlery with what looked like a letter. Getting excited, she ran up the steps, her hair, today was colored a light shade of red, and tied back into a French braid. Finally, she got to the top of the owlery and spotted another girl already up here writing a letter. Walking past her to go pick up her letter, she noticed the girl was another Slytherin, stopping she turned back around and walked towards the girl. "Not another Slytherin!" she said, sighing.. "And what looks like a first year, writing a letter to her parents!" she said with a smile, showing the girl that she was joking. "My name is Emma, Emma Potter, I'm in Ravenclaw..but one of my best friends is in Slytherin too." she said with a smile.."Her name is Jo, Jo Ozmar..do you know her?" smiling, she leaned against the window and stroked the school owl the girl was using.

Drusha - August 10, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
Dru giggled at Emma's introduction and smiled up at the girl as she approached. "Yep, right on all three counts. I'm Drusha," she said, holding out an ink stained hand in greeting. "My friends call me Dru for short. I haven't met Jo yet, but everything's been so hectic. What year is she in?"

Emma Potter - August 14, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
Smiling, Emma shook Dru's hand..seeing that her hand was all stained she said.."I guess I shouldn't have done that!" she said joking. "Oh Jo, she is a first year, she plays keeper for the quidtich team. She is really nice, I should get you two to meet sometime!" Looking at the letter Dru was writing, Emma grinned..."I take it your parents expected Gryffindor!" Hearing her owl come back, she walked over to it, and opened the letters. One from the twins, the other from..ack..her step-mother. Opening the twins first, she read:

Hey Em,
Merideth is driving us insane. She keeps trying to seperate us from dad. We can't wait till we can get away from her and come to Hogwarts, like you. All she cares about is Dad's money and authority. We cant believe dad married her. Hope you are having a great time at Hogwarts!

Love,
The Twins

Putting the letter down, she opened her step-mothers. Instantly she was overpowered with the flower perfume Merideth uses. The letter turned quickly into an howler.."Oh god!" Emma whispered, right before the howler began to yell.

Emma Potter!
I will not allow you to contact your father while he is working! I thought I already told you this! If I find out that you try this little stunt again, I will disinherit you from the family! Do you understand! I will disinherit you!

Watching the howler explode into pieces, she picked them up and through them out. Looking back at Dru, she said.."You have now met my wonderful step-mother!" she said sarcastically.

Drusha - August 15, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
Dru stared at the air where the howler had been before it exploded, her eyebrows knitted togather in concern. "She sounds positively... lovely ... she answered sarcastically. She couldn't imagine getting a letter like that form her mother!

"Have... I mean, if you don't mind me asking... have they been married long?"

Emma Potter - August 15, 2007 12:18 PM (GMT)
Smirking at the way Dru's face was, she rolled her eyes when Dru mentioned her step-mother. "Oh they have been married for about 7 months!" sighing, she picked up on of the shredded pieces of the howler and flicked it out the window.."You see, my mom died when I was in my first year here. My parents were very happy together, both of them were the heads of theie Department in St. Mungo's. We had a house in France, where my sisters and I would stay...and there was a house in England close to there jobs for my parents. They would come and visit us a lot, but when my mom died, my dad tried to keep this pattern going, except he met Merideth and supposdly fell in love with her. We (my sisters, and I) think that she used a love potion to marry my dad, get his money, have him basically forget about us..and basically focus on her and his job!" she said with a shrug of the shoulders.

Drusha - August 16, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
"Hmph," Dru snorted in sympathy. "Ya know, if I were you, I'd be tempted to recruit the whole school to send owls to your father every day." She smiled mischievously at Emma, wondering if that wasn't such a bad idea.

"Maybe not the whole school, but a bunch of us anyway. It'd serve her right." She muttered, adding a few more words to her letter home.

Emma Potter - August 16, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
Emma smiled at Dru's idea. And could imagine all of these letters flying into there house, and having Merideth screaming. "That would be awesome, but me and the twns would be disinherited..and you guys would probably be considered traders!" she said with a little laugh.. "No right now, I am just obeying her to keep my father happy.."and then looking down at her letter she added.."Or atleast obeying her enough to not disinherit me!" she said with a laugh!

Drusha - August 16, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
"She might be doing you a favor," Dru suggested kindly. "Would she... could she actually disinherit you? Wouldn''t your dad object?"

Dru finished her letter, hoping that she broke the news of her sorting to her parents in a way that would not bother them. She was pretty sure that they weren't going to be disappointed, but sometimes her family could be so weird about the dumbest things.

She set the letter in the beak of the now very eager owl, and sent it on it's way. It wasn't going to take more than a few minutes to deliver the letter to her parents' shop in Hogsmede. Dru figured she'd have a response by dinner, or certainly in the morning mail.

She returned her attention to Emma after watching the owl soar into the sky.

"Do you really think she may have won your dad over with a love potion?"

Emma Potter - August 24, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
Emma grinned.."Disinherit me..oh she would do that to me and my sisters that first chance she had!" she said watching Dru's letter fly off. "She is really young too..and it was kind of wierd how my dad met her, and then a month later asked her to marry him. So yea, I would bet on a Love Potion!" she said with a shrug.
