Description: Your opinion

I watched it today, and i nearly fell asleep. OotP has to be the worst movie ive seen this year. The book was amazing, and then they come with a movie that's utter rubbish! What?!?!?!

I always feel that was about the HP movies. They have to cut so much out of them to stuff into a movie time frame that they wind up hollow. They totally goofed up Grimmauld Place, The Room of Requirement and the Department of Mysteries, completely missed the mark with Dumbledore's discussion with Harry after the battle, and left out of some important parts (so what ELSE is new?). Once I got over being mad about what they left out or didn't get right and saw it again, I liked it a lot better. I *love* the affection it shows between Harry and Sirius. I wish it would have been an hour longer though. At least they didn't demolish the story the way they did in Prisoner of Azkaban.

If anyone out there has the chance, see it in IMAX. The point where they fly off on the thestrals to the end of the duel in the Department of Mysteries is in 3-D.

They destroyed our IMAX :(
But yeah, they cut all the important stuff and added useless, inacurate junk.
You know what the worst is? Alfonso (the guy who directed PoA), wants to direct the Deathly Hallows.. at least he got Harry's hair right in PoA.

Maybe it will grow on me with time, but right at the moment, I'm extremely disappointed with it. They could have done so much better. What a wasted opportunity!

They spent way too much time with the departure of Fred and George and not enough time at Grimmaled Place. And there was no S.P.E.W.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a rip off. i thought that Harry and Cho's kiss was discusting! Way too much groping! :puke:

Sardine - August 7, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
They didnt touch when they kissed.
And what happened to Ron and Hermione getting their Prefect badges?!?!? o_O

I saw it again last night, this time at the IMAX. The special effects, like the fireworks and the fight at the MOM, are well done, fun (and no doubt very expensive), but it still bugs me that it contains so little from the book, and it is inaccurate in a number of ways.

Also, it's shorter that the previous movies, and I think it wouldn't have hurt them to add another 15 or 20 min to expand on the plot. I mean it's not like they're going to lose money on it!

They could have afforded to spend more time at Grimmauld Place. Also, the brevity of the scenes from Snape's memory is going to cause problems later on (unless they're planning to butcher the subplots involving Snape in the last movies - OMG, I hope not!).

I'm not sure how much of the script is controlled by the director, and how much of it comes from the screenwriter, but they really could have done a lot better, especially considering how much it cost. I love special effects and CGI, but I need some plot, too!

I gather that they're going to keep the same director for the next movie, but they've got a new screen writer. I can only hope that he'll be better. A lot better.

There were thins I really liked about this movie. I agree that they left out so many things that it felt hallow. I was very disappointed that they did nothing with Ron and Hermione being prefects. I really didn't like what they did with Grimmauld Place. Come on- how could they not have even one scene of Mrs. Black screaming? I HATED the changes they did with teh dementors and they left so much out at the begining that I almost wonder why they bothered with any of it. And speaking of why they bothered... Harry's conversation with Dumbledore at the end of the movie was a waste of time. I really wanted to see the emotion Harry showed in the book!

Still, I like the affection between Harry and Sirius. I love the flying scene whenthe guard took Harry to Grimmauld Place. I love the casting of Tonks and Luna (I think they got Luna wrong, but I sill liked the way they did her in the movie). I loved the thestrals.

That's the trouble with reading books and then seeing movies. The movie in your own head is always so much better than the one in the theater.

I always LOVE the twins! And I liked Luna and Tonks, but we didn't see nearly enough of them. Especially Tonks. Umbridge was absolutely hateful, as she should be. And Bellatrix was totally creepy; I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley!

All of the action scenes were great. But so many of the dramatic scenes seemed rushed, like they were trying to see how fast they could dispense with them. Or like they didn't really want to do non-action scenes.

Take Grimmauld Place, for examples. Why not devote a few seconds to Mrs Black's portrait? Or a few doxies in the curtains? Possibly even the locket? How hard would that have been?

I really feel like they cheated us on this one.

I saw it in IMAX first and then again in regular theater format. Much better in IMAX however I really liked it both ways. Yes they cut a lot of things that I would have wanted to see, but they do that to everyone of the movies. I guess having seen 3 HP movies before ever reading one of the books, makes me less bitter about them. I just have accepted that some of what I want is gone, and enjoy what they are able to show.

I have to agree with dream, it was the same for me, I didn't read any of the books until after I saw OOTP and I guess I'm able to deal with the missing bits easier. Although after I read the book I was disappointed that SPEW wasn't in the movie, they could have had so much fun with that.
I too saw it in its normal format (in french) and then a few days later I saw it in IMAX (in english) and I have to say in IMAX it was way better and I told my dad to take my sister to it in IMAX and he agreed with me, the MOM was amazing to see, I just wish that the fighting had gone on longer!

The interactions between Harry and Sirius were nice to see. I also liked the scene where the trio is sitting in the common room after Harry's kiss. Other than that the movie was quite disappointing, hope they don't this with the rest of the movies.

I'm with you on that, Amber.

I was really disappointed that they left out the part where Fred and George turned the corridor into a swamp, I was really looking forward to seeing that part.
