Description: *CAUTION- SPOILERS INSIDE*feels lied to*
Stripes - July 23, 2007 09:08 AM (GMT)
Okay, I bet I probley just missed something in the book, so if you know the answers, please tell me.
- Why do some people become ghosts and others do not?
-Why is the fact that Harry has his mothers eyes important?
-Was there someone else present at the potters house besides Lily, James, Harry, and Lord Moldieshorts?
-What was so incredibly important about Lily Potter?
-Who was the one who did magic late in life?
-what was the important info about Petunia?
One last thing, how long was this book supposed to be page count wise; everyone is telling me 785, but mine is only 752.
Ez-Bake oven - July 23, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
I can only answer the first ? because I don't know the rest at the mo. In the 5th book Nearly Headless Nick said you only become a ghost if you are afraid to die. If you are ok with diein' then you just die and don't leave your imprint on the world.
Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 23, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
1 - has already been answered.
2 - I dunnno, why were you expecting it to be important?
3 - No
4 - The only reason Snape was a good guy at all was because he was in love with lilly. He did it to save her son. And the only reason he was mean to Harry is because he reminded him of James and how James was with Lilly, not him.
5 - Magic late in life? i dont know what ou mean?
6 - I guess there wasn't really that much important info about Pertunia. Except that she (and therefore the dursleys) prob wudnt have hated Harry at all if Snape hadnt been so rude to her when they were kids. Also getting Rejected by Hogwarts when she wrote them a letter, prob left her heart broken and really envious of Harry who got in.
7 - errr, i dunno about im America. You guys must have huge print, because over here its 607 including the epilogue.

1. Actually it's if they're afraid to move on to what lies ahead. If they're courageous and want to venture on to whatever's in the afterlife, they won't become ghosts to stay in the mortal world (to be a bit more technical ;) )
2. It's not exactly important. It's just what people notice about him. Harry looks just like James, except he's got Lily's eyes. If he didn't have anything in common with Lily, she'd practically be shut out from him, in a way.
3. Same answer
4. Hurloo, Lily's lovemagic was the thing that saved Harry in the first place, Lily was the reason Snape went to Dumbledore and became a good guy, Lily was the reason Snape protected Harry all these years, Lily was a powerful witch who had an impact on people.
5. Same answer as Mark. Did you get these questions off JKR's "spoilers"? Were you perhaps trying to find them all while you were reading the book? Well, I have no clue what you mean...
6. The fact that when she was young she wanted to be a witch like Lily but was rejected because she had no magical powers, for a start. What JKR said was the "important info" was the information you recieve during Snape's memories.
7. Depends on whether you have a U.S. or U.K. version or some other version, depends on whether it's paperback or hardcover. All in all, not important. I assume you have paperback.
See, theere's this site I like, and the webmaster is tight with Jo, and she said that these would be important plot points. Also, in all the book 7 prediction papers and books I've read, they've brought these things up, and have said that the book was supposed to be 784 in America, and if that's true i missing 25 pages, which really blows. And we do have slightly large print, but not much to make a diffrance, but we have pictures at the begining of each chapter. Anywho, just wondering if it's just me, or if anyone else was expecting something that wasn't in the book.
sama - July 23, 2007 06:59 PM (GMT)
Let me guess, Mugglenet? Well, I've answered all your questions except the one about late in life magic? (whatever that means) Try rephrasing it.
Stripes - July 23, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Yup, and I now don't like Emerson, cause he lied to me. I got another book, one with the end, and it was sooooooooooooooo good. I'm going to return the one from Amazon; I wonder if anyone else got a book with the end cut out.
REMY-SALINAS - July 23, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
i guess most of your questions have been answered but i still feel let down. The whole thing about who learned magic late in life was crap as it was not answered and it was supposed to be a major plot line according to jkr. She seems she forgot wht she says in all the confusion of trying to tie up all the loose ends. It seemed as if she just put in old characters not to advance the plot but only to satisfy the fans. And was that the important thing about petunia???? that she hated harry cuz snape had been mean to her earlier in life Wow another letdown i was thinking one of the dursleys would be magical but nope just a letdown way to string you along and then poof nothing. and just why could dudley see that dementor?? why was that never answered????????????? i have so many questions now
Stripes - July 23, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
I heard that the animals in the books had something special about them, once again, nothing! I is so disapointed.
REMY-SALINAS - July 23, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
I didn't hear about the animals but, was severus really a vampire cuz it did say harry saw a huge, batlike shape flying through the darkness. and why did it matter that that wolf guy had bitten bill? just cuz it scarred him oh wow, if that was the point he could have had bellatrix through acid on his cheek or something pfft.
marixoxella - July 23, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
The batlike shape was Snape, Remy xD when he was running away. he jumped and that was him flying I think. lol
As for the later in life magic I have no clue...
And about your book... Check other books int he bookstore to see if they're the same number of pages.
Twilight - July 23, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
I don't think that the bat-like shape was meant to imply that that Snape is (was) a vampire. He is frequently described him as bat-like, because of his black cloak. In that passage, JKR implies that he learned to fly (without a broom) from LV.
Harry having "Lily's eyes" is important to Snape's death scene. He dies looking into Harry's (Lilly's) eyes. It gives the scene much greater impact.
The mauling of Bill (and the deaths of Hedwig and Colin Creavey) weren't strictly necessary to the plot, but they make the story more realistic: there's always "collateral damage," innocents always die too, and there's rarely any meaning in it. It just makes the story even more heartbreaking.
sama - July 25, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
((Just a thought.....why post in continuous strings of spoilers in the DH thread, I mean wouldn't people steer away just by the title of the thing?))
Well, she can't add in any other stuff, hurloo, that was the END. Snape is not a vampire, that would have taken explanation. As for what you said earlier, Remy, who did she throw in as old characters that didn't advance the plot? I'm not sure what you mean.
Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 25, 2007 05:35 PM (GMT)
Yeah i agree with Twilight, the fact that Harry had Lillys eyes add alot more impact to Snapes death. "Look at me!" he wanted the last things he saw to be the eyes of the woman he loved.
Sardine - July 26, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
Those questions were all supposed to be answered in the Deathly Hallows... none of them were.
And my book only had 607pgs o_O
Stripes - July 26, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
Ohh, that's so romantic.
I went to the store, and checked the pages. Turns out I was missing the part were Harry was inside his head, which explains so much to me.
I got a new book (yeh me! *happy dancse*) and now I don't like Amazon. And I don't think snape was a vampire, vampires can only be killed by impalment, beheading, or a broken heart. (No, I didn't make that last way up...no, really.)
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 27, 2007 06:24 AM (GMT)
Sardine: Thats because you have the british edition not the american. Mine is 607 pages long too :)
Swannaz - July 27, 2007 10:04 AM (GMT)
so is mine, its cause were australian so we can deal with small print.... or something like that. what i wann know is, how did dumbledore defeat grindelwald if grindelwald had the elder wand?
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 27, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
Same way Draco got it off DD I guess . . . disarmed his ar$e :P
Swannaz - July 27, 2007 11:10 AM (GMT)
yeah, i suppose. so much for 'unbeatable' :P. then theres the 'ron the parselmouth' thing. but the thing that really irritates me is this -
what was Draco doing all last year in the RoR? fixing a vanishing cabinet when the room can make a TUNNEL out of the castle by itself.... i mean, i thought draco had some intelligence.... if neville can do it....grrr. :P
Ankaa - July 27, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Marcus, I think it explains about the RoR in the book (check the Lost Diadem chapter), Seamus says that Neville 'really gets this room' and 'you've got to ask if for EXACTLY what you want', they needed a way out, so they asked! I'm guessing that Draco didn't...
I do agree that the book has more holes than Lupin's cardy though. What puzzled me is how did Snape get into Grimmauld Place to search for Lily's letter. Surely the tongue twister thing and the scary Dumbledore ghost were supposed to keep him out! The only way round it I can think of is if he apparated straight in and bypassed the hall altogether - is that even possible? I don't remember anyone else just appearing inside a building...
I liked the bit about Harry having Lily's eyes in the end - dead subtle, you could easily have missed it...
marywyman - July 30, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
:wizard: I am also curious about the person who supposedly had magic later in life? I have read DH 3 times now and haven't found where it was put in. Unless it was Ted Tonks - I thought he was a muggle, I could be mistaken, he could have been a muggleborn. But I could have sworn that Sirius told Harry that Andromeda was blasted off the Black family tree for marrying a muggle.
I loved the part about finally finding out about Harry's eyes being exactly like Lily's, it really made you see why Snape was the way he was toward Harry. "You remember Lily's eyes" says DD - and Snape can hardly bear to hear about Lily's eyes, he loved her so much - and Snape tried to save the whole family not just Lily. He was so devastated when she was killed.
I thought it was a very understanding Harry who cleared Snape's name while fighting Voldemort, and forgiveness when he names his son, the only one of his three kids to have Lily's eyes, Albus Severus.
I was wondering about Snape when he was inside 12 Grimauld, it happened right after he had cursed off the fake Harry's ear,George, I wonder if he thought he might have accidently hurt the real Harry, He wouldn't have known who the real Harry was - so maybe he was upset thinking it was the real one, or he could have just been upset about the letter to Sirius and seeing Lily sending her Love to Sirius and remembering how he had lost her friendship by calling her a mudblood
Ankaa - August 4, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
I'm just still confused about how Snape GOT into Grimmauld Place! I've been re-reading it and I still can't see the answer.
The book does say that he hit George (fake Harry) by accident when he was aiming for the death eaters hand - yet again he was trying to save Harry and managed to save Lupin as well - that must've hurt him...
I also like how he tells Phineas Nigellus off for saying 'Mudblood' - nice touch - that word must be like knives in his heart - after all, if he hadn't have called it Lily, who knows what would've happened...
Twilight - August 4, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
If Snape hadn't called Lily a mudblood, it might have been him who died with her, instead of James.
I can sort of understand why Snape said it, though. He was being humiliated in front of her, he was furious, and he lost control of himself. That single moment of weakness ruined his whole life. I guess it shows the importance of anger management and self control.
I wonder what would have happened if LV had stunned Lily instead of killing her. Then Harry wouldn't have been protected by her sacrifice. He might well have been killed, Snape might have ended up with Lily after all, and Neville might have ended up being the Chosen One. LV was a fool.

Okay well I can answer some of your questions.
Only people who are afraid of death become ghosts.
No other people were at the house but Nagini may have been there.
The book is supposed to be 785 pages. The people that printed it realized that 33 of the pages are missing in some of the books, so if your book seems to skip all of a sudden or stops a little suddenly, you'll need to get a new one.
