Title: Saddest Death
Description: **Contains Spoilers!**
Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 22, 2007 10:17 PM (GMT)
Which death do you guys think was the saddest? Harry's (partial), Snape, Remus, Fred, Dobby?
I personally think that Fred's was pretty sad. I was gutted that JK killed off one of the twins!!
Although i must say i wasn't sad about Snape's at the time, i didnt feel bad for him, but then you find out that he was the bravest of them all and he loved Lilly, that probably makes his the saddest of all.
"Albus Severus....you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was in Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man i ever knew." <--------------im gonna add this to my Siggy once evertone had had the chance to read it
Tical65 - July 23, 2007 12:32 AM (GMT)
Yeah after reading what Harry saw in the memories Snape gave him it was pretty sad! But people are given the chance in life to make the right choices or the wrong choices, and Snape made some wrong ones even though he attempted to correct them!! But to me the saddest death had to be Tonks & Lupin, they just had a baby that sucks!!!!
Twilight - July 23, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)
I'm really sad about all the deaths in Book 7. I feel really terrible, actually. Does anyone else, or is it just me?
For me, Snape's death was hardest, even though I had expected him to die. I spent so much time trying to figure him out that I came to really care about him, even though I hated him in the first few books. The only bright spot in his whole life was his love for Lily, and that turn out badly. And his death was particularly graphic and awful. I mean, Nagini? How horrible!
At least Remus had found true love and happiness with Tonks, and at least they died together. One wasn't left alone to morn for the other.
Fred's death really got to me. I love the twins, and I can't imagine how George must feel. At least Fred died a hero, as did Dobby. And Colin Creavey, too, the poor little kid.
Hedwig's death seemed very senseless, but it warned me that there was probably a lot worse to come, and there was indeed.
I think I'm going to be sad for a long, long time.
dreamdancer7699 - July 23, 2007 01:09 AM (GMT)
I bawled like a baby about Fred. I got teary eyed about Hedwig and Dobby, but I literally cried for Fred. That was too much for me. I couldn't believe that she killed Hedwig, especially like that. Just too sad. And why did she have to mess with BOTH of my twins? Poor George and his ear. :( I hated how she just casually mentioned Tonks and Lupin having died. It was like an afterthought on her part. Poor Collin Creevey. :( He should have just gone home. :(
marixoxella - July 23, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
It's weird but out of all the deaths, even Fred, Dobby made me cry the most. I'm not really so sure why, maybe because I had expected them to aparate and both survive and the shock of the knife in his chest just made me start tearing. Also maybe because it was the first death Harry had really witnessed in the book, other than Hedwig that was too fast. DOBBY!!!!! COME BACK!!! he was so cute and he was always loyal to Harry and came right to his rescue. Also what made me cry was the grave and how Harry inscribed, 'here lies Dobby, a free elf' on the grave!!!! :(
REMY-SALINAS - July 23, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
to me the saddest death without a doubt had to be fred, even though i had been warned that not everyone would survive i still was shocked. i was also disspointed that hedwig died and like dream i so hated how she just casually mentions lupin and tonks death like it didnt matter I didnt much care about snape or dobby, i mean sure i was shocked but it didnt cause me to put the book down and regain my composure like fred's death did and i was so glad hagrid didnt die i was sure he had when i read the spiders had swarmed all over him.

(hehe.....didn't know how to use the spoilerbox til just now...handy!)
FRED WEASLEY. Ugh. ULTIMATE SADNESS. I hadn't felt this bad since Sirius. If my mom wasn't in the room reading the book several chapters behind me, I would have yelled and screamed and cried. I managed not to, but barely. Dobby I was sad about, Remus and Tonks I knew about, due to my innate sense of foreboding I've developed. As soon as he was born, I knew at least one of them would die. I hoped she wouldn't be quite so cliche about it (Another Harry), but ah well. But hey, the marauders are united once more. :) That bit with the Resurrection Stone made me feel at peace now that we know they're all just fine...XD that sounds stupid, but it was still reassuring.
Eek! I forgot Colin in my signature! Whoops. *edits*
Oh my Fred....It....saddens me....what will George do, now?....What about the joke shop? I wish she'd included something about the others like Luna and George etc. in the Epilogue.
REMY-SALINAS - July 23, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
poor scarred george probably became a hermit after it was all over. He had no one to play pranks with, he couldn't hear half the orders said to him so his business got worse. He dropped out of school so he had no skillls and with no wizard college he had no chance to get a good job. Poor, poor george :(
Twilight - July 23, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
Remy, you're even more of a pessimist than I am. And I'm pretty bad.
After reading DH, I feel like I've been attacked by Dementors. All the hope and happiness is being sucked out of me.
But I think that you seriously underestimate George. He'll always feel the pain of losing Fred, but he's strong and brave, as well as smart and resilient. He'll carry on, like he knows that Fred would want him to. I think he and Lee Jordan will continue in business together. And he'll always carry his extendable ears.
sama - July 24, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah, George would go on in honor of his brother! And besides, there's probably a spell for hearing that can give him the same abilities he used to have.
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 24, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
Definitely Fred . . . I wasn't sad about his death. Just majorly pi$$ed off! I mean killing one twin is just EVUL!!! Seriously that's just bitachy
Though I must admit I wouldn't have cared as much as if she had killed George. I take the killing of Fred rather personally.
Dobby's death was so like whatever
CRABBE!! *whimper* Oh come on . . . someone has to feel sorry for him. I always liked Crabbe and Goyle . . . I can't imagine a Goyle withput a Crabbe either

Ah, Dobby's, I feel, posed the most character related heart wrenching scene. Harry digging the grave with Ron and Dean... that was a moment to remember. But it was assuredly Fred who hit me hardest. I was in a state of definite shock over that one. I haven't gotten over it yet... I'll work it out yet though! I think... I agree on the statement of the depressed George though. Fan writers are going to have a blast with that.
About the other deaths... mad eye was a great lead in to the things to come in DH. I was okay with that one. Hedwig, was a surprise, all though I know JKR just killed her off so as not to deal with the beast during Harry's camping excursions. Still, who kills the pet? And... to be honest... Lupin and Tonks just seemed, kind of an after thought killing. Just the way it was written. It just didn't feel as emotional as I think it could have been...
And Shonkie... didn't both Crabbe and Goyle die? Ron dragged out the body of one, but the other burned in the fiend flame, didn't he? So, they're still off grunting about with each other somewhere, though I don't know as they're somewhere is better :P
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 25, 2007 07:14 AM (GMT)
Goyle was unconcious not dead :)
D. L. Button - July 25, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
You are most correct there. I must have skim-read that part a tad too quick. I just recalled Ron's harsh , "He's dead." Which applied to Crabbe not Goyle as I re-read that page. :cowboy: Mea Culpa (Chapter Thirty One, pg 634 in the American book <_< )
hedwig was sooooo unexpected. when hedwig died i was like.... shocked. Fred hit me hard. with a big, heavy, steel bat. that was pretty bad. but Dobby's death i found the saddest. poor poor dobby.
Ankaa - July 27, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
I thought they were all sad, except Tonks and Lupin because you didn't even get chance to miss them! Never really got into Tonks but poor Lupin, boo hoo! (I wonder if his cardy is in an charity shop near me, I might have a rummage) I really would've liked to see how he died and have been given the chance to mourn him properly. Wonder if he turned wolfie or if he was finally freed from it before the end...guess we'll never know...
I was pretty sad when Hedwig died, especially so because I thought Hagrid had died too. I was pretty much expecting each character to croak, so whenever they got a mention I was holding my breath just in case!
*Edits - just found out how to spoiler alert*

I'm sad of the death of the books. I was so excited at the end, and then, well now I'm really sad and going to listen to it on tape cuz Jim Dale is the best. I'm just waiting to cry cuz of all the deaths and the death of the sieres. I finnished it 40 min. ago and I am kind of depressed.
Twilight - August 1, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
I finished it on July 22, and I'm STILL kind of depressed.
Was this supposed to be a happy ending?
Ankaa - August 1, 2007 06:57 AM (GMT)
I'm just half way through reading it again, and let me tell you guys, it doesn't get any better second time round!
I thought it made me cry a lot because I was tired after 11 hours straight reading, but I think it's more just because it's so damn SAD. I fear I'm going to be in bits again by the end!!
Professor Rogue - August 1, 2007 07:18 AM (GMT)
Hey you guys, I'm glad that you're using the spoiler tags that's great, but you don't have to do that in this thread. Sorry that I wasn't clear. But this thread has been clearly marked as spoilerish in the topic description, so there's the spoiler warning for this thread. Feel free to discuss the book without the warning. :naughty:
I finished the book Saturday night, I really wanted to take my time reading it, and so I did.
I thought Dobby's death was the saddest. I almost had water in my eyes, that's how much emotion I felt reading those scenes.
Fred's death I felt was too deliberate, as though a main character like him "had" to die. Same with Lupin and Tonks, their death was far worst though because of their baby being left behind. Again, it felt very forced to me, as a way to show the extent of Voldermort's evil . . . .we get that he's evil, their deaths weren't necessary. I felt that we got cheated out on seeing it. Who killed them? How did it happen? Did Lupin jump in from of Tonks? What spell was used? We didn't even get to see them die.
Lira Johnston - August 1, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Fred, by far, was the saddest..... He was my best friend's FAVORITE twin, and now she'll be crushed, because I claimed Draco, and Fred, her guy, dies..... lol

BOOOHOOOO! I miss Fred! That was absoloutly, no question about it, the WORST death of the whole book. Hedwig was sad as well but Fred was the worst. Why did J.K. Rowling have to kill him!? *pouts* Snape wasn't really that sad for me. I guess it's probably because for the past 6 books he's been the bad, evil, Death Eater, teacher and everyone's supposed to hate him. So his death wasn't really as dramatic. Tonks and Lupin was pretty sad to but it's mainly because you feel bad for their kid. Dobby was pretty awful to. I think he was a bad death for me because he's been helping Harry throughout most of the books and he's a great character. Let me see what else can I say? Scrimgeour was a jerk, Voldie deserved it, I'm mad about everybody else, and that's that!
Ez-Bake oven - August 1, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
Fred!!!!!!!!!! I'm reading through it a second time and he is the one who makes all the good jokes. He also said the bit at the wedding where at his wedding  no one would have to wear dress robes.
will's gurl - August 6, 2007 09:18 AM (GMT)
OMG the saddest death was so Fred!! I don't like the fact that Crabbe died though >_> come on!! you have to feel a little bit sad for him!! *pouts*
Twilight - August 6, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
For any of you that feel like the epilogue left you were without any sense of closure for our lost friends, try the link below.
It's a fan fic called End of the Line, and 2 sequels have now been added as well, to cover more characters and expand on the concept. IMO, it's the epilogue that JKR should have given us, but didn't.
Get out your box of tissues and read. You may have another good cry, but I think that this time you'll feel better afterward. I certainly did.

Yeah I suppose you're right. You do have to feel a little bit sorry for Crabbe. But the saddest death was, no doubt, FRED!!!! I cannot believe that Rowling would kill him!!!! I thought the worst she would do to the twins was make them no longer physically identical by making George holey. BUT WHY MUST SHE KILL FRED?! WHY?! *runs off sobbing*
