Title: Order of Phoenix General Discussion

Professor Rogue - July 11, 2007 03:29 AM (GMT)
ALl righty, the movie is like 2 hours away from its premiere!!!!!!!!!

Let's start by discussing how you went to see it. I'm on my way out the door right now to see the Midnight show. Be back later!

Professor Rogue - July 11, 2007 09:23 AM (GMT)
Just got done watching the movie, I thought it was EXCELLENT! I noticed a definte difference in this movie in comparison to the others, I suppoet the new director helped, but yeah, I loved it.

But I'll discuss more of it tomrrow because it's really late and I have to get to bed.

Swannaz - July 11, 2007 12:44 PM (GMT)
why go to bed? i just saw it.

all in all i didn't think it was that fantastic. it was pretty good. pruned is a good description, all we got were the bare bones that in the end didn't make much sense. harry's 'year' at hogwarts felt like a couple of weeks, and the Dursleys were appallingly bad... vernon didn't even look angry... he just looked like he wanted to finish his yoghurt.

It definitely had it's good points. The fighting was good, Alan Rickman, Ralphe fiennes, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staundton and Helena Bonham Carter were all fantastic, and to my surprise probably the best of the young actors were Ron and Luna... shame none of the actors bar harry and Umbridge got more than 5 lines....

i dunno... i reckon probably just over 3 stars from me. for all the people who say its fantastic, just admit it: you're horribly biased :P

dreamdancer7699 - July 11, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
I really loved it! I think that as usual when compared to the book, it's disappointing however people you need to remember that movies can only be so long... especially "kid" movies. We're getting into the longer books now, so of course things are going to cut, and when you love everything about a book, of COURSE you're going to have things that you loved about it be cut out. I just got done from seeing the first showing of the day and it was in the IMAX theater. it was my first IMAX movie and I'm thrilled that my first was for this movie. The flying with the thestrals and the fights scenes were really quite amazing. i know that people said they were disappointed with the castings for Tonks, Umbridge and Bella, however I think that they were absoloutely brilliant. Tonks was adorable, Umbridge was revolting and Bella was glamorously psychotic. LOVED IT!!! I'll be going again before it leaves the theaters! :D

Dyegov - July 12, 2007 04:15 AM (GMT)
Just came back from seeing it, and all I can say is . . WOW!!! It was better than I imagined; Luna, Bella and Umbridge were simply perfect!!!! Right now I'm too excited to discuss about it, but I just wanted to say I loved the movie completely!!!!

Ankaa - July 12, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
Oh guys, I'm so excited. I'm going to see it in 3 hours time (and counting) and I can't wait. I've had the day off work - everyone there thinks I'm mad - and I'm just fidgeting around at home because I can't concentrate!!

British TV broadcast a 30 min programme on the making of the film last Saturday and from what I've seen it looks amazing. I think the casting of Bellatrix looks spot on but I'm still not sure about Tonks. If she turns up in the film with my colour purple hair I'll not be happy.

I'll be back when I've seen it to tell you what I thought...

Ankaa - July 12, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
'K I'm back! WOW. To quote Ron: that was bloody brilliant! I've not yet finished bouncing round the house like a demented Tigger - I can't imagine what state I'll be in next week...

I agree with Dreamy about Umbridge and Bella, loved how Umbridge's pink got darker and more vile as she got more powerful. I didn't think much of Tonks. I know she didn't get much screen time but she SO doesn't deserve to get her hands on Lupin!! Jealousy is a terrible thing...grrr...

The Thestrals looked good (- how uncomfortable would they be to ride on?) and the Ministry of Magic was spectacular. The fight in the veil room was good too, so interesting to see each wizard's individual style. So sad to see Sirius fading into the veil though (sob)...

I do think the Hogwarts section felt a little rushed though, I was looking forward to seeing Peeves saluting Fred and George and causing a little more chais. I know that realistically they couldn't film it any other way, the book is so huge it would have been going on for days (yay!).

I'm just trying to work out when I can get to go and see it again, preferably without the kids in the back row who didn't shut up through the whole film (why do people pay to see something then talk through it) - at times like that you really need Ginny's Bat Bogey hex...

Damien - July 12, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
To be honest, i was expecting more, i mean right, harry trained several students to fight along side with him. and in the end theres not really a good enough fight its not only that it just fealt to plain, all expected. and i didnt like the Provicy Bit, because its like we just watched the film to hear the words "One of us will die in the end" and we proberly allready know that. there proberly going to both die anyway. i just hope the next one is better to be honest. the beggining of it was great, but the middle and end, didnt really suite me. but thats me lol.

marixoxella - July 12, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
The movie wasn't so great honestly. Alot of things were blury and too fast that you didn't realize what was happening. And the death of Sirius was too quick. You could barely understand when Bella said 'avada kedavra'... 0.o Everyone was talking sooooo fast and you were trying to catch on.. If you didn't read the book you're not going to understand the movie, honestly. I was so mad that they didn't show the scene where Hermione kissed Ron on the cheek, nor did they show any Quidditch matches NOR Ginny casting the bat-bogey hex.
I thought it ROCKED though when Ginny did the most powerful spell than anyone else and everyone was like woahhhh...
:D The next film better be better... I really liked how Ron stood up for Hermione so much and tried to hurt Grawp... Or where Hermione was like 'this is Loony...' ahem 'LUNA' lol or where she dinged the bell on the bike piece that Grawp gave her ^_^

REMY-SALINAS - July 13, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
I liked the movie overall but there was a few things i was not happy with like the whole kreacher thing why was he in it if he only was in it for that small bit. From the movie i had no reason to hate him at all and i thought he was funny. as for the book being to long to put everything in a movie i guess it will never happen especially with the ages of hte actors and such but how cool would it be if they made a order of the phoenix 1 and order of hte phoenix 2 and cut the book in half for each movie now that would be awesome lol.

Ankaa - July 13, 2007 09:12 AM (GMT)
I agree about Kreacher Remy, he's not nearly nasty enough, but then again you can say the same about Snape. He only comes over as midly disgruntled with Harry most of the time.

I think the movies are great pointers to what will happen in the last book though. Obviously Kreacher must be important to the story or he wouldn't be included at all. I was personally disappointed not to see Mrs Weasley and the Boggart and them clearing out the cabinet of Black family treasures, I really wanted to see what was in there!

Basically, I guess they have to trim the story down to it's essentials points, not only to make it a watchable length, but also to make the story clear. it would be GREAT if they filmed the books word for word, but just imagine how confusing it would be for the general public or people who don't know the books as well as we do! You'd be overloaded with information... and while it's all great background stuff for those of us who are that into it, it doesn't always carry the plot forward. For a film point of view anything which isn't in essence Harry and the good guys fighing Voldy and the bad guys is too much information it seems.

dreamdancer7699 - July 13, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
I guess I would have been disappointed by a lot more if I hadnt been part of the LC and seen all of the news about it as it came up. I already knew that there wouldnt be much Kreacher, and no quidditch, and no Peeves and all of that kind of stuff before because we've had the news articles showing what was cut put up around here. So I had time before seeing the movie to get ready for it. I guess that's what made the difference for me.

Shonk Da 'Onk - July 14, 2007 05:11 AM (GMT)
ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM

Ok I saw it two days ago and . . . blah. I have low expectations for the HP movies so by those standards I guess it was . . . ok. They put in most of the important bits anyway but I found I didn't really enjoy it as much as some of the others. Sure there were some amusing bits but I was really disappointed by the fight scenes between the students and the Death Eaters as well as the Order folk. It last what . . . a minute of two. In the book it goes for quite a few chapters so I was very disappointed. It was the main bit I was looking forward to and it happened in a blink. Though I have to admit it did look cool . . . especially the very end fight b/w DD and Voldie . . . but it didnt go for long enough either. I did like how they actually made Malfoy drop the prophecy though . . . the the actual way we found out what it was sucked!!

I loved Luna but her voice was kinda irritating . . .

The baby threastrel was cute :D so was Grawp!

I love Filch in this one too!!

The overall acting skills of the kids seem to have dropped??

Swannaz - July 14, 2007 12:35 PM (GMT)
possibly... i thought Rupert was ok, though i found Dan REALLY REALLY irritating. one thing that annoyed me was how they would kind of skip 3 pages of explanation in the book between lines.... eg

Hm: what happenned to your hand?

H: nothing

Hm: your other hand...

(harry shows this random blurred scar)

HM: you have to tell Mcgonagall!

where did that come from??!! are they skilled at Legilimensy?

Shonk Da 'Onk - July 15, 2007 04:13 AM (GMT)
 Yeah Rupert was ok but you didn't really get to see that much of him in this movie.

QUOTE
where did that come from??!! are they skilled at Legilimensy?

And yet Harry just can't get Occlumency right *sigh*

Did anyone notice that Harry was also the only character in this movie who was alloud to actually get angry?? When other characters where meant to be angry they just looked kinda annoyed . . . like with Snape and Vernon.

Swannaz - July 15, 2007 06:35 AM (GMT)
i stand by my statement that Vernon was only annoyed cause he wanted to finish his yoghurt.

Shonk Da 'Onk - July 15, 2007 12:24 PM (GMT)
Ah yes of coarse . . . nothings more important than yoghurt. I remember the whole darn theatre laughing when he pulled his head out of the fridge. :D

Snape has no excuse though . . . he isn't alloud to be nice. He has never been nice, he is grumpy and evil . . . Harry is meant to hate him. They were getting along rather well considering the circumstances :) Oh wells I guess he gets to be evil and hated and such in the next one . . .

Swannaz - July 15, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
i think he was suitably slimy though :P

Stripes - July 16, 2007 09:16 AM (GMT)
The private lessons with Snape are good, but it seems to touchy feely student teacher moment-ish. Anyone else and I would have like it, but Harry and Snape. O_o And they made his worst memory to short.

I didn't like the kiss. Cho bugs me, and they really over do those moments. But Ginny's face when anyone says Cho's name is hilarious.

Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 16, 2007 01:14 PM (GMT)
I generally thought the film was really good. By far the best movie so far (PoA is second). The acting was 'better' (except for dudley, god knows where they found that kid?!?!) and marcus i see what you mean about uncle Vernon being ultra protective of his prized yoghurt!
Was it me or did Ron not have many lines AT ALL, but when ever Rupert did talk it seemed to be hilarious. Grawp and Hermione was funny and so was the fireside scene after the kiss. ("You would have thought a bit of snogging would cheer her up" LOL)
The only dissapointing bit - as shonk has said - was the 'big' deatheater/order fight. I did like the Voldy/DD one, that was pretty cool, if only a tad short. I also HATED that they made Cho the one who told about the Room of requirement, and where did she go after the kiss? she seemed to just dissapear from the film after it!!

marixoxella - July 16, 2007 05:29 PM (GMT)
LOL!!! Omg I actually read Marcus' first post before I watched the movie, and during the whole time I was actually paying attention to Vernon and OMG that was funny. He didn't look like he liked his kid at all, he was just mad at people interrupting his yogurt time! I was laughing so hard in my seat! Ron like didn't say anything, honestly. Only to stand up for Hermione ( ) and to crack jokes... He really didn't do that much in the film... I think it would've been funnier if Marietta (nearly my name ^_^ ) would've gotten those spots all over her face!! I loved the Snape little kid scene, it was so cute! But way too quick! In the book, Cho ended it with Harry didn't she? In the movie it was like a unison break up lol!
My mom and I thought the ending was pretty dumb... It was really as if we just watched the whole movie to hear 'We have what Voldemort doesn't!' And then it ends... It was really foreshadowing Hp6 because of the whole group...
And er, do Ron and Hermione become prefects in book 5 or 6? It was definitely book 5, I guess they skipped the prefect part!!... In book 6 though they're going to have to make them prefects because that's how Harry and Ginny end up hanging out more with each other :) The Death Eater parts were way to quick but I LOVED Ginny's part where she exploded everything--WOOT WOOT!

....... Did you guys realize that alot of couples were foreshadowed in this film... Especially the group scene... Neville/Luna, Ron/Hermione, Ginny/Harry... THEY WERE ALL TOGETHER!!! :)

Stripes - July 16, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
I know, my sister doesn't read the books and so is a h/hr suppoter, <_< :cowboy: and she was like wft were did that come from. So it was pretty funny when she caught those and said the movie was wrong.

marixoxella - July 16, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
 She might as well call the author wrong because in the books its more obvious than the movies! I was pissed that they didn't give the Felix Felicis or the kiss on the cheek that hermione gave ROn

Stripes - July 16, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
They had felix in the 5th movie?
Anywho, I loved the DA scenes. i also like the patronus, since in the third movie the didn't really have them as animals and they never explain why Harry's is a Stag.

marixoxella - July 16, 2007 10:17 PM (GMT)
Hermione's otter was soo cute as it rushed around her :D and Luna's bunny was really cool, bouncing everywhere... And Ginny's stag (doesnt that tell you something? ;) )

Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 16, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but everything about Emma is cute  lol
Plus Ginny's was clearly a horse or unicorn. They cant have made hers a stag that would be stupid. Isnt she with Dean or someone in OoTP?

marixoxella - July 16, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
haha whatever you say Mark :P Besides a horse and stag is almost the same thing and it would forshadow something!!! B)

Stripes - July 16, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
I think it was a unicorn, but a stag would have been so romantic.

Mark, please don't take this the wrong way, but you have got to know that that sentance sounds really stoker-ish.

Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 16, 2007 11:11 PM (GMT)
You mean Stalkerish?
Well errr, you see.... Argh, no point trying to deny it
Though im pretty sure you have to have actually seen someone to count as their stalker lol

Stripes - July 17, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
Very true. My friends think I stalk Johnny Depp in my spare time, so I guess I'm not really one to talk anyway.

dreamdancer7699 - July 17, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)
Ginny's Patronus was definitely a horse. JKR has said that Neville and Luna will not be a couple by the way. I hated that Cho was blamed as well, I would have liked to see her getting jealous of Harry and Hermione. I was bummed about Ron and Hermione not being shown as Prefects. I hate to say it but I absoloutely adored Bella when she ran singing to herself "I killed Sirius Blackkkkk" (I know... sick and demented part of myself. :P )

marixoxella - July 17, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Lol, we at least we know who to keep away from Mark and Stripes when it comes to celebrities, but then again, even a restraining order wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, they'd acknowledge you!! :P
Man I'm glad I'm not crazy about anyone other than people I know! heh

Anyway, Luna and Neville would make such a cute couple!! :( Stupid JK! lol I really loved the actress that did Bella, she was crazy in an amazing way.

Stripes - July 17, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
Leah, I know what you mean Dreamy. I like that part to, and I hate myself for it.

Luna and Neville would be perfect together. I feel so bad that sh debuncked that theory. I still think they would get together if there wasn't someone controling there lives.

And now I sound like one of those H/hr shippers.

dreamdancer7699 - July 17, 2007 02:51 AM (GMT)
Yup which I happen to be one of. :P Long live H/HR!!!

Umm...okay.

I love the young snape. He's so cute!

marixoxella - July 18, 2007 09:31 PM (GMT)
Hey Dream that's blasphemy! Take that pronographic picture off of this thread and to that horrible H/hr thread!! Just kidding... They look horrendous together *cough cough* Ron and Hermione sounds so much cuter than Harry and Hermione, those H's making it a horrible alliteration...

ANYWAYYY Yes I loved how snape looked but that whole pensieve scene was too quick, I barely had any time to see the other people!

Stripes - July 19, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
I love the scene were Umbridge gets whats coming to her. She's so nasty, when I read the books I feel like throwing something.

I hate it when Sirius dies. It was horrible. I actually cried.

Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - July 19, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah the whole Sirius ddying but was pretty sad. In the book Belle dosnt actually use the avada Kedavra does she? she just knocks him into the vail. I guess its just so the audience know that he's dead and hasnt just fallen through an open window!

Stripes - July 19, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
My only worry is that theirs probley going to be some sort of beond the veil thing in book 7, and now the audience is going to be really confused. But if it's okay with Jo, it's okay with me.

I watched the movie after the yogart thing, he really wasn't mad or anything about his son, just upset about his yogart.

dreamdancer7699 - July 19, 2007 06:45 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure that I've heard that JKR has repeatedly said in many different interviews that Sirius will not be coming back, so that's probably why it's ok that they did the Avada Kedavra curse in the movie. i need to find my book though, cause I really did think that Bella had done the killing curse on Sirius... idk.
