Title: Brain Teasers?!?!
Description: Haha you have to use brains!
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 7, 2007 09:49 AM (GMT)
Basic Game: Post a problem or trick question and get people to work them out. :P I'll start
Three ladies go to a restaurant for a meal. They receive a bill for $30. They each put $10 on the table, which the waiter collects and takes to the till. The cashier informs the waiter that the bill should only have been for $25 and returns $5 to the waiter in $1 coins. On the way back to the table the waiter realizes that he cannot divide the coins equally between the ladies. As they didn’t know the total of the revised bill, he decides to put $2 in his own pocket and give each of the ladies $1.
Now that each lady has been given a dollar back, each of the ladies has paid $9. Three times 9 is 27. The waiter has $2 in his pocket. Two plus 27 is $29. The ladies originally handed over $30. Where is the missing dollar?
(some may have seen this one)
Swannaz - July 7, 2007 11:05 AM (GMT)
i think its just a question of + or - , and of confusing two different things. the problem is here

if you want the $30 bill, you should have the three ladies $9 PLUS the $1 each they got back, that = $30.
you only want the waiters $2 involved if you want to talk about the $25 total, in which case you get the ladies $9 ($27) and TAKE AWAY the $2... which gives you $25.
so its just a case of confusing the above two things to create one thing which doesn't make sense
i think.......

There was a death on Treebark Ln. The victim was identified as Mark Oswalt, who recently was married. The police went to the crime scene and they reported the death as a suicide.
Later that day, after the police left, a private detective, hired by the victim's friend who thought it was a murder, searched the crime scene and found a note the police missed.
It read,
"4,3: 8,1:_: 9,1: 2,1: 7,4:_: 6,1:9,3:_: 9,1: 4,3: 3,3: 3,2: !"
The detective took out his cell phone and started dialing the police to tell them about his findings. Once the detective opened the phone to dial, he immediately screamed out, "I SOLVED IT!"
Who was the murderer and how did the detective find out?
And:
There was once a college that offered a class on probability applied to the real world.
The class was relatively easy, but there was a catch. There were no homework assignments or tests, but there was a final exam that would have only one question on it.
When everyone received the test it was a blank sheet of paper with a solitary question on it: "What is risk?"
Most students were able to pass, but only one student received 100% for the class! Even stranger was that he only wrote down one word!
What did he write?

"4,3: 8,1:_: 9,1: 2,1: 7,4:_: 6,1:9,3:_: 9,1: 4,3: 3,3: 3,2: !"
It was my wife... wow.... challenging :P
the other one is interesting.... i'll start work on that now...
EDIT: ok, i'll have a crack at the 2nd one though i have no idea
1: life
2: risk
3: boardgame
likely, they are all wrong. but hey, :P

ok second ones answer was: This
Next: What is 3/7 chicken, 2/3 cat and 1/2 goat?
An anagram is a word or phrase formed by rearranging the letters of another word or phrase. For example, rearrange "none" to get "neon".
It is not considered an anagram if you exchange a letter with the same letter. For example, switching the n's with each other in "noun" does not give an anagram.
Even though a word is not considered an anagram of itself, your task is to find a word that is an anagram of itself. If you can do the seemingly impossible once, you might as well find a second word that is an anagram of itself.
Ankaa - July 8, 2007 02:56 PM (GMT)
Oooh I know this one (I think!)
is it CHICAGO??
Chicken has 7 letters so 3/7 of chicken is CHI
Cat has 3 letters so 2/3 of cat is CA
Goat has 4 letters so 1/2 of goat is GO
Am I right???
(I like this thread - it's not often I get to flex my brain! Great one Shonk! xxx)
Ankaa - July 12, 2007 09:43 AM (GMT)
OK I've got one for you...
As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits.
Kits, cats, sacks and wives,
How many were going to St. Ives?
Ethan Waber - July 12, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
Just me!
How many animals of each did Moses take aboard the ark?
And
You build a house so that all the walls face north. A bear walks by, what color was the bear
And
A pink house is made of pink bricks, a yellow house is made of yellow bricks....what is a greenhouse made of?
Stripes - July 13, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
okay, glass or plastic, the bear was white, and 4.
What does man love more than life,
fear more than death and mortal strife,
What the poor have and the rich require,
and what the contented man desires,
what misers give
and spendthrifts save,
and every man takes to the grave?
and
Weight in my belly,
trees on my back,
nails in my ribs,
feet i do lack.
and
I steal what i lack,
from those you have it.
you need it to live,
yet i have none,
what small children fear,
is my home,
what gives you life,
feeds me.
What am I?
Ankaa - July 13, 2007 09:33 AM (GMT)
Er, I'm guessing nothing, a boat and the dark?
What always runs but never walks, often murmurs, never talks, has a bed but never sleeps, has a mouth but never eats?
Stripes - July 13, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
The first two are right, but the last one is wrong.
sama - July 14, 2007 01:49 AM (GMT)

stifles!
fitless? (Is that a word? I doubt it)
((Moses took NO animals aboard the ark. That was Noah. EASY!))
Ankaa, my answer to yours is a river.
((What were the answers "Boat" and "Dark" for? I can't find the riddle that has those answers....))
Ankaa - July 14, 2007 10:20 AM (GMT)
This are Stripe's riddles that I was answering Sama:

That last one's got me stumped though...
Stripes - July 14, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
The last one is not alive, but it moves without help from living things. It needs to eat, or it will die, but it doesn't eat anything humans consider food.
sama - July 15, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
I thought it was "nothing"
Stripes - July 16, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
That's the answer to the second one. *is happy to be able to stump people* :cowboy: :firedevil:
sama - July 17, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Oh, I didn't realize that those were three separate riddles! Haha. Okay. I get it now. Sorry!!
I steal what i lack from those who have it.
you need it to live, yet i have none.
what small children fear is my home,
what gives you life feeds me.
What am I?
Death?
Stripes - July 17, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
Yup,it'd death.
That's okay, I should have put spaces in between instead of writing 'and'.
My first is in adventure, but not in trip,
my seconds in river, but not in stream,
my thrid is in abbey, but not in nun,
my forth is in game, but not in bourd,
my fifth is in horn, but not in sharp,
my last is in net, but not in fish,
the whole is a creature that will eat you for dinner,
unless in this riddle game you are the winner.
Ankaa - July 21, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
Is it dragon? If so, I don't think it quite works but I like the idea!
Here's one for you...
I cannot be felt, seen or touched;
Yet I can be found in everybody;
My existence is always in debate;
Yet I have my own style of music.
What Am I?
Arc - July 24, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
ummm God?
There is something that is nothing, but it has a name. It joins our walks; it joins our talks; it plays in every game. What is it?
Ankaa - July 27, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
No Arc, it's not God - my riddle still stands!!!! Woo - I'm beating you all!!!
And I've got another one:
There was this black dog in the middle of a black road all the houses are black and the moon and stars weren't out. The power was out in this town and a guy whose headlights were out was driving down the road and almost hit the dog but he swerved just in time. How did the man see the dog?......
Arc - July 28, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
haha ok lemme try again :hair?: ^_^
and for your sec. one..
did the dog bark?
Ankaa - July 29, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
NO and No Arc, sorry! They're toughies aren't they?
Do you give up yet???
(bounces around excitedly waiting for someone to guess right)
sama - July 30, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
For one: Soul
for two: the man definitely saw the dog? Like, with his -eyes-?
Ankaa - July 30, 2007 07:07 AM (GMT)
Yay Sama, you got it! It was the soul.
As for the man - He definitely saw the dog with his own eyes...
Sardine - July 30, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
Even if all is black, something can be seen.
It depends; was the dog's coat dirty? If not, it's possible he moved. You can see black on black, you dont need light to see a shimmer. It's possible to see a black silhoutte on a black background.
He saw the dog because it moved?
sama - July 30, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
It's a bad riddle, too many variables. For instance, the man could have had on a watch with a glowing face, or the lights inside the car might have been on, so the dog's eyes could have reflected the glow. Or perhaps the black dog had a glowing collar. There's just too many variables and options for this question.
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 31, 2007 10:27 AM (GMT)
The man too could have been totally smashed drunk and was just seeing things and swerving randomly :P HAHA
sama - July 31, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
Ankaa - August 1, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
Nah, nah, nah it's a good riddle, trust me. Read it again.....
There was this black dog in the middle of a black road all the houses are black and the moon and stars weren't out. The power was out in this town and a guy whose headlights were out was driving down the road and almost hit the dog but he swerved just in time. How did the man see the dog?......
The answer is
It was daylight!

How can this be?

I know that this probablly isn't the answer that you have but check out this article! It's basically the exact same thing! Freaky.....
