Title: Dumbledore drank the potion to hastily.
Description: I think there was more he could of tried

This is my first time reading Harry Potter and I still have the last 2 chapter to read of THBP but this is burning me inside. Has anyone else thought that Dumbledore could of tried more to empty the contents of the basin before drinking the potion??? I mean couldn't he conjure up alot of goblets and tried emptying it into the goblets to get to the locket? Or how about pouring out the contents onto the stone floor? JK should of made Dumbledore try that before drinking. I know what your saying yeah but she would of some how blocked it from working to weaken him so he could be killed off later but it makes both Harry and Dumbledore look stupid in my opinion. :( Guess it's his old age and Harry's excitment that got in the way of them thinkign of trying that.

It does mention that he "raised his wand and made complicated movements over the surface of the potion, murmering soundlessly. Nothing Happened."
So you have to assume he was trying to do someting like that at this point

I mean once he found out that he could take out the contents with the goblet he conjured why didn't he use more goblets or just try dumping the contets with the one he had? Unless I read it so fast I missed something it didn't look like he tried that.

I'm pretty sure that DD knew that trying that would be pointless . . . there is no need for JK to write out a lot of pointless ways they could have gotten around it.
There are a billion other ways that DD could have gotten the locket out . . . but obviously it was meant to be done the way it was done so . . . blah.

Yeah the obvious answer is 'it wouldnt be as interesting if they did that' but Dumbledore says he can only think that it must be drunk, and bearing in mind he's the wisest person there is, i just assume he knows the basin will be refilled if he did that. Voldermort is a powerfull dark wizard and his spells arnt gonna be as easily fooled as just pouring it away. I think your just reading too much into it rose! lol

Well I felt like one of the 2 things I mentioned should of been tried because I'm thinking that Voldermort wouldn't want anyone to know about it and if he needed to get it he I don't think would of been stupid enough to drink it. Then again I can see him get someone to drink it ,get the locket then kill them or throw them to the Inferi or something but it just seemed like it was to hastily done. It looked like they had all the time in the world to try it and a couple of extra paragraphs or lines wouldn't of been much. Oh well what's done is done.

i see what you mean Rose but i definately agree with shonk. She wrote the same as me but was far better at summing it up in breif easy to read language! lol
If JK wrote a paragraph explaining tipping it away didnt work, shed have to do another of of him trying to make it vanish from the goblet with his wand etc etc.
I just dont think there was any need for her eo explain it, because it soo obviously wouldnt work.

I didn't even think of him trying to make it go poof with his wand lol. I was just thinking of him just trying to get rid of the liquid by just tipping it out or just filling up glasses. I just felt that he could of tried something outside of magic like trying to dump it on the floor :P lol. Anyway this is just my 2 scence about it.

I wish I could find the link . . . i still have it saved on my computer but I don't have anywhere to upload
Anyway I found this flash movie based on this scene that was absolutely histerical and pointed out all the really obvious easy ways they could have gotten the locket or gotten out of there with the inferi attacking and such. It was really funny and made the characters look really stupid.

Why didn't he just try scooping up the potion and then dumping it out? Or possibly scooping the locket out of the bottom of the basin? Or vanishing the potion? Or so many other things? I guess Rowling doesn't like to take short cuts.
