Title: Dead but . . .

Shonk Da 'Onk - June 26, 2007 06:28 AM (GMT)
Rowling clarified that "Dumbledore is definitely dead", when asked by Sir Salman Rushdie and others at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Rowling answered the same question three times, each time with increasing conviction.[59] However, on the set of the Order of the Phoenix film, she remarked; "Dumbledore's giving me a lot of trouble". When asked "But isn't he dead?" by Daniel Radcliffe, she explained; "Well, yeah, but it's more complex ...."

It has also been stated by JK that we will find out more about DD's (and Pettigrews) families (YAY more Abreforth) . . . so any thoughts?

This is great. I would hope, I mean really hope that there was more to Dumbledore's death than what actually happened. For him to be so powerful, I thought it was weak how he died. I would hope that he would have some secret, some hidden agenda, that we just don't know about. So the fact that JK said that "it's more complex than that" sits well with me. Maybe his spirit is lost somewhere, or he left something behind?

My thoughts are that we will see dumbledore in his penseive and in his portrait. i keep thinking of all those letters etc in movies where its opened and it goes -

"if you are reading/seeing this, then i am dead...' possibly ssomething like that could be done with a penseive.

Then again, JK could just have been referring to something which happened a while ago in the HP universe and it could be complicated/ difficult to bring it into the novels.

just my 2 cents....

I had the same sort of feeling . . . something to do with the portrait and pensieve

I was thinking more the potrait then the pensieve though . . . I definitely reckon the pensieve will be back but I would really like to see Harry having some sort of argument with DD's portrait for some reason.

I'm with the portrait idea myself.

At least Dumbledore would still be able to interact with Harry like that. I'm looking forward to Dumbledore explaining a few things when his portrait finally wakes up... in fact I'm counting on it...

I wonder if there's a kind of time limit between dying and the portrait becoming active, or if something has to happen in between. Any ideas?

The trouble with the pensieve is it's a one-way tool for the viewer. If Harry was to visit more of Dumbledore's memories like that then DD wouldn't know he was there or be able to speak to him. Then again, maybe DD left Harry the pensieve in his will and it will tell him all about DD's family and anything else he thinks he needs to know.

I keep thinking about that mirror that Sirius gave Harry as well. Surely he wouldn't be able to contact him through that.....? HE JUST CAN'T BE GONE- I'M NOT HAVING IT!!!! ;o)

My first thought was the portrait.

:spoiler: :spoiler: :spoiler: :spoiler: :spoiler: :spoiler:

when I was on vacation, my extended family had a hp discusion, and we now think that.....only read this if you want to!!!!!!!!!!!!........when DD said "Seaveras, Please" that he then asked him using the mind to kill him, therefore looking loyal to the DL and killing a man that was not long for this world.

What do you think?

Interesting theory Gerdi. That's a real possibilty.

This is what I'm thinking along the lines. We all know that Dumbledore is a pretty powerful wizard, what if he created some kind of way to keep in contact with Harry? Or maybe he revealed all of his secrets in some magical object or something? That could possibly explain JK's comment on "Dumbledore is giving me trouble"

So Dead means no Horcruxes for DD right? that was my first thought when he was killed. Maybe he has horcruxes too, but if JK said he's DEFINATELY dead then i guess not. Its more likely that it will be portrait and pensive orientated. I happen to think more pensieve though. I think DD left very important memories in there that he wants Harry to see.

I also happen to think that snape is a good guy and that DD asked Snape to kill him telepathically, thinking that Snapes cover as a deatheater was more important than his life; knowing he could still contact harry as a portrait.
Maybe its abit far fetched but thats what i think.

I don't know why people think that Snape killed DD because he told him to or not... Isn't it obvious why he killed him? Because that was what Draco was supposed to do. And Draco's mom made the unbreakable vow that Snape should carry out the task if Draco can't, therefore; Snape was forced to kill DD whether or not he wanted him to...

Anyway, I think DD is dead, but JK had to find a way for Harry to find out more about Dumbledore through the pensieve... Man, that lady has bazzilions of ideas doesnt she.

I still think that DD asked to be killed but that is another reason DD wanted to be killed other wise Snape would have died and he is a usefull person possibibily undercover.

I'm with the portrait. I totally think that Harry should have thought of this earlier. Though of course Harry would first have to obtain the portrait for Dumbledore to have been helping him the whole time.
