Title: Harry's Eyes
Description: Whats the mystery??
BarbieGirl - March 3, 2005 08:32 AM (GMT)
Here's a question asked in a interview with J.K.
| QUOTE |
Interviewer: Are there any special wizarding powers in your world that depend on the wizard using their eyes to do something?
J.K.: Why do you ask that?
Interviewer: Well because everyone always go on about how Harry's got Lily Potter's eyes.
J.K: Aren't you smart - there is something, maybe coming about that, I'm going to say no more - very clever. |
So what does everyone think is so important about Harry's eyes?? Can he do some type of magic with his eyes? Or is there something more to it?
SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - March 3, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
wow! i've never seen this quote before!
hm, i find it hard to imagine that he's gonna be able to do spells.
maybe by looking into someone else's eyes he can make them tell the truth, sorta like veritaserum. or maybe he can tell someone a different story by looking in their eyes so they'll believe it....like that spell they used at the worldcup (or in Men in Black  )
hermionefan4life - March 3, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
thats weird.......i have never thought about that before...i also just thought everyone just liked his eyes or something
Luna - March 3, 2005 10:19 PM (GMT)
Same here. Anyway, I think it might be something like hypnosis or maybe they'll be like Moody's eye or something. Who knows?! (other than JK)
scarletwoman - March 6, 2005 06:44 AM (GMT)
yeah, i've been really suspicious about that since book 2 b/c they ALWAYS talk about it. so i'm assuming that it's got some kind of importance.
Phoenix - March 6, 2005 09:41 PM (GMT)
I’m no expert on magic or anything but there is definately
power that can be channeled through the eyes. Legilimency
(spelt wrong) and occlumency were featured in the book and
will only work when you maintain eye contact - much like
when Quirrel had to keep eye contact to curse harry’s broom
in the philosophers stone. The obvious exception to the rule
is harry and voldy’s wierd little bond.
I think there may be more to it though because there is just
too much emphasis on the fact that Hary has his mother’s
eyes. There has to be more to it....
:P
Coldfire - March 6, 2005 09:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah there has to be some sort of significance. . . though I haven't come up with one yet!
Phoenix - March 6, 2005 10:06 PM (GMT)
Lol - i just thought what if we don't find out till like the end of book seven!
ok maybe not so funny but i wanna know if other powers can be concentrated from the eyes that theory's just gone and swiped my concentration span! I don't mean anything really wierd like z-ray vision, etc but it would be pretty cool to have something....
Lianslo - March 7, 2005 08:08 AM (GMT)
wow - nice find here. I've got a couple guesses. First - perhaps he inherited some trait or power from Lily? I'm not exactly sure how it would connect with his eyes, but I've always felt like we should know more about Lily - perhaps this will get things started in that department. The second guess is pretty obvious and has already been mentioned, but occlumency seems to fall into this category as well.
BarbieGirl - March 15, 2005 05:50 AM (GMT)
Alrighty, I've just had a thought!!! You know how in the first Harry Potter movie Harry's (Dan Radcliffe's) eye were blue (yes I know he has green eyes in the other movie, cuz he wore contacts but hang in there) if the colour of Harry's eyes were so important wouldnt JK have said 'He needs to have green eyes' (she has creative control and can tell the writers of the movie things they need in it.) Anyway just a thought.!
flounder21 - March 17, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
i dont no. maybe he could do something really rare that only really powerful wizards can do  im not really sure!
mwiley - April 1, 2005 06:38 PM (GMT)
You have a good point about the eye thing, why does he have to have green eyes, there has to be something speical about that. I also always thought they just said that, but now its been brought up, there must be something to it.
FISH - July 31, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
i think they have no importence what so ever

I think the same, that Lily have some sort of power with her eye's and all that, but JK cuold also be talking about the end of the chapter 22 in HBP - when Harry uses his eyes on Professor Slughorn to get that important memorie - cos its important to the story- and lead us to the meaning of Horcruxes .. . . .
Aspen - August 1, 2005 05:15 AM (GMT)
Can I ask A Stupid Question? Who's Lilly Potter?
Merlin - August 1, 2005 03:17 PM (GMT)
shes harry's mother if u dont know :)
Sardine - August 1, 2005 06:36 PM (GMT)
Lily Potter is Harry's mother,Aspen.
mwiley - August 20, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
I think there is power in harry's eyes. They're always talking about how he has lily's eyes. But like pirate angel said, with the way he used his eyes on slughorn they must have some kind of power, or maybe it was just because slughorn liked lily and harry's eyes made him think about how she was dead and giving the memorie would help avenge her death. But I still think it was the power in his eyes, i don't think just looking at a pair of eyes would change his mind about giving harry the memorie.
green_eyed_beauty - October 23, 2005 04:01 PM (GMT)
i don't know this is kind of a random thought but what if there is something in lily's eyes that connect the wizarding world and the muggle world (because wasn't she muggle born?) i don't know though but i think the color has something to do with it too...
mwiley - October 27, 2005 01:20 AM (GMT)
I dunno, i guesse it could be possible. But I don't think its just the colour, it may be a very nice eye colour, but slughorn probably wouldn't have given up that memory because harry's eyes were green.
afigirlafi - December 21, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
i think it is because haryy has his om eyes and we all know that slughorn love his mom as a pupil(slughorn was sort of drunk when harry asked him) maybe his eyes have a sort of remind ppl that love lily. what is the word ????????? ahh i forgot but maybe his eyes sort of remind ppl of lily and they start to feel sorry for him fr what happen that night they died.
*sigh*
and the ppl feel like they have to tell him things that he doesn't know so maybe he has enough facts to take on and possibly destroy lord voldi
*sigh*
that is what i think but i migh t be wrong or not make sense at all,
i rest my case!! lol
ChaserG456 - April 28, 2006 11:46 PM (GMT)
I actually think it's something else you know how Harry's mom died protecting Harry so Voldy couldn't kill him? What if his green eyes are Lily's protection for him?
Rayne Lupin - May 2, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
But he had green eyes BEFORE that happened, not AFTER!
ChaserG456 - May 13, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
And it says that where Rayne? I don't maybe....but maybe he had that protection all along I mean his mom already knew that Voldemort would try to do something-it's kinda clear!
Dusty Dorsy - July 30, 2006 03:12 AM (GMT)
I think Harry's Eyes are green due to the fact that it is a rare color for eyes to be. I mean think about it how many people have you seen with green eyes. Also the fact that Harry is so like his father with quidditch and a disregard for rules (saids that in the books) He also can figure things out quickly with a bit of help from his friends take the second book were Hermione had gotten peterfied by the Baslisk (which by the way is a kind of lizard in the non magical world) and by the fact taht he saw the memory of Tom Riddle and it said a girl had been murdered. He deducted that the girl was Moaning Murtle quickly enough. Doesnt one of the books say that Lily was a bright witch in school? I think that might be the part of Harry people who knew his mother and father will see ewhen they look at him. That intellegence will also help him in fighting Lord Voldermort.
REMY-SALINAS - August 19, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
i just thought people with green eyes were supposed to be very powerful in magic has anyone heard of that or am i just crazy
Alisynne Noire - November 30, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
There are no paticular legends about green eyes but I do know that having "unusual eyes" could make you a wtich in the olden days. Green eyes are most common in Germanic, Slavic, and Celtic heritage.(Love Wikipeida!) So in certain places (Italy, Spain, etc) green eyes would have been unusual. Just an interesting tidbit that shows how much of a geek I am.
Back to topic, staring soemone in the eyes makes it much harder to lie, especially if yu can see their emotions. Green eyes are much easier to read emotions then ,say, brown eyes. Perhaps, Harry, to copy what some of you said, can inspire soemone to tell the truth?
Twilight - December 1, 2006 04:48 AM (GMT)
Eyes are always important in the books. JKR describes Snape's eyes as black and empty. I assumed that was because of his talent for occlumency, blocking people so they can't read his thoughts when they look into his eyes. It would be interesting if Harry's eyes could do the opposite, like inspiring people to tell the truth.
Alisynne Noire - December 2, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
Alot like I was trying to say, Twilight! Harry's eyes are very readable, in the fact that you can read his emotions in them. Try lying while looking into a pair of angry or upset eyes. It's hard for most people (including myself) and is thus a clue to tell whether or not someone is lying.
sailorleo - February 4, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
I could his eyes have beeen altered by voldemorts curse? insane theory right, but wouldn't it be ironic if everyone went around saying how he has his mother's eyes but really it was voldemort that made him that way? iono, i speak rubbish, sorry people
dreamdancer7699 - February 4, 2007 07:45 AM (GMT)
You know what I was noticing a coupel weeks ago that really disturbed me? I was watching HP SS and Harry's eyes were blue! Like PERFECT BLUE!!!! I mean I know Daniel Radcliffe was young at the time, but considering how much stress was put on the fac that Harry Potter has green eyes, don't you think they would have made sure that he really did? Gggrrrr!
scarolina214 - February 14, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Alright, just a weird science fiction idea but what if some way lily still lives on in harry. I mean, I know she has to because she's his mother but what if the eye color matters a lot for that reason. Maybe it even has to do something with why Lily married James. I mean that is weird and awkward and she did hate him. My question is what is with James? His marrying Lily and Lily accepting the marriage- that shocks me.
AND HOW MUCH DOES SNAPE HAVE TO DO WITH JAMES'S DEATH BECAUSE SIRIUS REALLY HATES SNAPE. COULD THERE BE SOME CONNECTION WITH SNAPE AND THE DEATHS? I DON'T REALLY KNOW BUT THAT IS SOMETHING I THINK WE WILL DEFINITELY FIND OUT IN BOOK SEVEN.

I'm still a little confused about the signifigance of Harry's eyes. Anyone care to explain?
