This is an écorché drawing I did this morning (2 hours?). I'm going to use it as the base for a painting of -you guessed it!- Firenze. I'll try to put together a tutorial of what I'm doing as I go along. I'll be using Photoshop for the colorization, whereas most are used to Paint Shop Pro I'd think, so I might see if I can recruit DL to help me come up with the Paint Shop Pro equivalents for the Photoshop stuff I use.

This drawing, however, was plain old computer paper with a couple of varying-hardness pencils.

Edit: Écorché is just a fancy term, originating from French, which means "without skin" or "with the skin removed." It's a way to help study the underlying form and structure of a creature.

*Turns green with envy!*
Im so jealous as i dont have an artistic bone im ny body. I love the drawing of Firenze and cant wait to see loads more in the future. Big thumbs up!!

:o :o :o :o :o

That is absoloutely awesome! I cant wait to see him finished if you do it!

Awsome!!! :o I can't wait to see the finished product! :D You are much to neat at sketching and I am incredibly jealous . . . when I sketch I end up with big mess :P The face looks a little odd but I'm sure it will turn out great once it has been coloured.

I absolutely love ecorche drawings and such but I've always been to lazy to ever try one myself. Just the idea of trying to draw in all the muscles etc. just makes me go . . . yeah nah! :P I prefer to just scribble really quickly and half-assed like 'cause I'm impatient. :P

. . . Oh and I think most people do use Photoshop. At least I think so . . . I don't anymore because my tablet works better in openCanvas but I still use it occasionally and I know Sailorleo uses Photoshop.

I really think the Paint Shop Pro crowd and the Photoshop crowd may be a fairly even split. 'Depends. PSP is cheaper. So most who have PS tend to have had it pirated from somewhere.... (Like me!) Anywho, if'n you'd like me to chalk up relevant tools from PSP world to your ever so wonderful PS world at some point, I'll do what I can.

But, never mind that now! Your going to make me whimper and cry and want to take down my own shoddy image of Firenze... Nah, I'll just agree that yours is much prettier and Live with it. And then I'll oogle him every time I read a section of book where the centaurs are involved and choose to forget movie one on the aspect all together. Oh yes.

Love the musculature, especially on the horse. But then, I can't argue the male torso, as... you know my weakness for a pretty male torso... I'm also terribly envious of your skill with drawing hands. Which is still nothing new, but I thought I might mention it again. I wonder though, will he be holding something in the one hand, or is it just clenched while mid trot?

Sylvana, i noticed on Jack's art thread u mentions your love of Cloud Strife. And i just wondered if you had done any Final Fantasy art in the past that you could upload and show us. FF is my other obsession aswell as HP you see!

Sylvana - June 15, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
Yeah, though I haven't drawn any FFVII fan art in a loooong time, and really cringe to look back at such old stuff. Still, 's good to remember where you've come from, eh? ;) I'll just compromise and link 'em, instead of putting the images themselves up.

Cloud in a temple to Jenova from an old RP I used to be a part of
Generic angsty Cloud
Chibi Cloud
one absolutely terrible Aeris sketch
one incarnation of my persona from the aforementioned RP outside of the aforementioned temple to Jenova
The Jenova form of my persona from the previously mentioned RP, tending to a wounded Cloud
Griever (I know, wrong FF)
Nanaki
Sephiroth doing... something?

The only exception to the I-hate-my-old-art syndrome would be this one:

Also, while it isn't quite a drawing, I photoshoped up this wallpaper a while back:

...and while it's not my own art, I HIGHLY recommend this gorgeous wallpaper: http://www.getanimewallpapers.com/game/fin...637da5d.jpg.php

I keep getting a '404 Web site not found' error :(
Is that just my PC or is that the link itself?

sama - June 15, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Er, I think it's the link, Mark. Sylvana, your stuff is gorgeous.

Sylvana - June 15, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
Which link is givin' you the 404? I checked 'em all when I posted initially, and they seem to be working right now.

Mark_EmmaWatsonFan - June 15, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
Its wierd, none of the FF fantasy ones are working, they all have the same error. But all of the tutorial links in your first posts are working fine. God knows whats happening, maybe its just me?

Sylvana - June 15, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
That sounds like an error on my end, actually. All those images are from the same source so if all of those ones in particular aren't working, then it should be the source and not you. I can't figure out for the life of my why that's happening though.

EDIT: the problem might be fixed now. Let me know if the links still aren't working.

Also, though I'm quickly becoming disenchanted with the piece, here's a WIP shot of Firenze.

Yeah they work now!! I gotta admit as good as they all are i really like the one one you also like with him wearing him FF 7 purple hight necked jumper. The one that is a image and not a link. I also like the griever one, even though its FF8 (i think its the final bosses GF right?)
Plus the Firenze pic is amazing, you should send it to the makers of the first Harry potter film, what were they doin there? lol

Sylvana - June 21, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
Okay, I finally got around to finishing off my Firenze pic. Yeah, the hand is terribly unfinished and unnatural, but I haven't the effort to fix it. I definitely went more pastel in my colors than I usually would, but I think it works for a such a lovely blond as Firenze. I've got good progress shots to use in putting together a walk-through of my process on the piece. You'll definitely see a tutorial sooner or later, though I have another project I need to do first so it may be a little while.

(the pic is a link to a larger version, for those whose connection is fast enough)
