here is an article on sci-fi.com. it's an interview by david heyman and he tells sci-fi about some of the things that are being left out. read the article HERE and feel free to complain in this thread

They're taking out the elf liberation thing! How dare they! I hate when they kill the storiees! *runs off to find and choke producer* jk :P

SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - March 18, 2005 07:06 AM (GMT)
i know! i can't believe JK is fine with that (but it says she is). she spent a lot of time talking about S.P.E.W. and it even carried over in the next book. it says it's hermione's thing, not harry's and yeah, the movies are about harry, but please let the other characters have a life and some interests too! it adds to the movie!

seems like hermy's S.P.E.W. isn't gonna become so important since JK doesn't mind them leaving it out. i hate it when you already know, "ah, well, that's not important". i was always wondering how far hermy was gonna go/get with that.

Professor Rogue - March 19, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
Well for me, I'm not really that upset with the whole Elf thing. I'm not that huge of a fan with Dobby, so honestly, I don't care that I don't see the whole elf sideplot. But I'm really curious as to know what other things they will be cutting. Tons of stuff from Movie 3 was cut, with this one, the book being much longer, I expect the same.

Luna - March 19, 2005 04:24 AM (GMT)
I hated the way they cut the third movie. It was all out of order too! I just hope they don't cut anything mportant! Oh well, we'll see wont we.
I think it'll be really exciting. This book is the one that has THREE big events, after all!

BarbieGirl - March 22, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
No!! They cant do that, I thought it was funny that Hermione was so obsessed with the Elves. Its to bad theyre cutting it. :(

Lupin231 - March 22, 2005 08:21 PM (GMT)
I think the S.P.E.W thing might carry on in2 the next book but like Jk said in an interview the books and the movies are differnt things thy may be linked in loads of ways but they are still different

Coldfire - March 23, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
I absolutely HATED that they cut so much out of the 3rd movie!!!! And, like Rogue said, I expect they'll do the same to the 4th movie too!! grrrrrr. . . And they're leaving out S.P.E.W.?? But that was important too, even though it was "Hermione's thing"!!! It will be interesting to see how much else they are going to end up getting away with cutting out. Yeah I know that in movies stuff HAS to be cut out or it'll be wayyyyy too long, but it still sucks a lot!!!

mwiley - April 1, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah, they can't cut out half the good parts!! They leave out alot of the good stuff, and just put the main parts in, that have to be in, we're missing out on some of the best parts!!

more not so good news for poeple from australia:

several of Australia's largest movie theater chains have updated their Goblet of Fire promotional sections to reflect a new release date of December 1st - one week later than the original planned date of November 24th.

speculation is that the most likely explanation for the move is to tie in with the Australian summer school holidays, which begin at the start of December. Warner Brothers of course wants to maximize their opening weekend box office pull.

(info from mugglenet again......will update if i hear more)

BarbieGirl - April 12, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
Argh!!!! Of course they'll go & do that, the summer holidays start like halfway through December!!!! Not Happy!!! :(

that IS exciting news Binks! Wow, I can't wait to see the Chamber of Secrets. It's been awhile for me and that movie so it'll be interesting to see all the special stuff that they've deleted from the movie. Thanks for the info!

Luna - April 21, 2005 12:30 PM (GMT)
I can't wait either! I hope i'll be able to watch it, just because of the behind the scenes footage. Oh, and how much "never before seen" footage can u have!?

Random note: Emma looks the best out of the four, but if the guys would just cut their hair!

Coldfire - April 24, 2005 04:19 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the guys really need to cut their hair!! But its seems like thats the fad now; all the guys wanna have the longer hair nowadays... dunno why :S

Professor Rogue - May 18, 2005 08:04 AM (GMT)
I dunno if this info has already been posted here before but I found this at some site:

'Goblet' running time: 150 minutes?
The International Movie Database's listing for Goblet of Fire has the length listed as 150 minutes - exactly 2 1/2 hours. This is right in line with WB's original promise, so we expect this to be fairly accurate.

On a completely unrelated note, we know some of you don't like the rule we have in place allowing only one comment per person every ten minutes. (Yes, we saw the petition.) The rule exists to keep two or more people from carrying on a conversation, which is precisely why most of you seem to dislike it. But for the 3423429th time: the comment boards are.NOT.chat.rooms. But we are listening, and as a compromise we have lowered the time limit to five minutes instead of ten.

i;m going to have a heart-attack..how can they do this to the book...if i was J.K. Rowling i would tell them to keep the elf libertion..this really makes me mad

That's one of the problems with making books into movies. They cut things out and they leave out important info. Like is the POA movie, they completly left out the stuff about Hermione always disappearing and then we learn later that she was using the Time Turner to get to her classes. They used the Time Turner but they didn't really focus on the fact that Hermione was using it for her classes.

But yeah, they're cutting the Liberation elf stuff. I guess becuase to them it isn't important. Who knows what else they're cutting. I just hope things don't seem rushed.

Aurora - May 25, 2005 12:32 AM (GMT)
I'm not that upset that they cut out the S.P.E.W. thing. I didn't really like that part and I felt that Hermione was kind of annoying in those parts.

But I really hope that they dont cut out a lot in GOF because they really did leave A LOT of stuff out of POA. People I know, who aren't usually HP fans, who saw the movie were TOTALLY confused about the plot because they cut out so much vital material. It was a good movie but I think they could've spared an extra 15 minutes to add some explanations here and there. Cuz if viewers hadn't read the books, they had no clue as to where the movie was heading plotwise. And wouldn't the film company want more than just HP fans to see the movie in order to make more money?...sorry I keep going on and on, but I really feel strongly about this issue! Anybody else feel this way?

I agree. Reading it in the books didn't make me want to go outside and do cartwheels if you know what I mean. Them cutting that little bit is okay with me.

I am so with you. And that's exactly what I was saying. When they make books into movies they really have to be careful. I know a lot of my friends are really big on "The book is better than the movie" just because they leave stuff out, change things around and everything. An extra 15 mintues would not have killed them I think. Look at the GoF movie. It's 2 hours and 30 minutes I hear. And remember when they were planning on having this movie cut to 2 movies? Just beccuase there was so much info to cover. Ugh. If they're cutting things in PoA and GoF, I'd hate to see how much they're going to chop off in OoF!

Coldfire - May 25, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
That kinda makes me not really look forward to seeing the movie... don't get me wrong, it'll prolly be really cool... but like Rogue and Aurora said, people who have not read the books cannot understand what's goin on in the movies cuz of the left out material. And if they leave a ton out of GOF it will ruin it, cuz there is just so much important stuff they need to cover....

Aurora - May 26, 2005 02:42 AM (GMT)
They better not cut a huge chunk out of OotP! That would be absolutely awful!

mtgluva - August 9, 2005 06:21 AM (GMT)
They were actually going to make 2 movies for it so they wouldn't have to edit so much stuff out of the script and actual film, but apparently Alfonso persuaded them not to. They're going to leave out tons and it's not fair!

geeky granger - August 9, 2005 06:38 AM (GMT)
Amen to that ... I would have loved to have had them split it into two movies... Personally I think they leave too much out of the movies as it is... now this is going to be a butched up masterpiece of the book and I can't say I'm thrilled about it.

mtgluva - August 9, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
yup. i agree!

SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - August 23, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
a lot of you probably already know this but i thought i'd post it anyway:

the movie got rated pg-13 (doesn't really matter much to me, but at least the movies are getting darker as the books are.)

and HERE you can read reviews from poeple that saw the test screening. most poeple are happy with the movie. so i'm hoping for a better one than PoA.......but i doubt i'll be happy with all the stuff they left out.

Aurora - August 24, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
At least we know that J.K. is helping out with the movies and won't let anything get cut out that will come up later in the books or is going to be relevant in the upcoming book.

Sardine - August 24, 2005 06:13 PM (GMT)
They cut out a whole lot of stuff in da Prisoner.I might not watch the Goblet...

Danial Tavian - February 11, 2006 11:40 PM (GMT)
