Title: Brainstorm: Ideas & Suggestions
Professor Rogue - March 27, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
Okay, so things have been a little slow around here lately. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how we can pick things up a bit? Maybe it's an activity, special event, or contest of some sort? Or maybe it's just a certain method, like posting in discussions that you'd like to see more.
Since I'm finally back, I'd like to help work towards making the LC the best. So post your suggestions here, let's brainstorm so feel free to discuss anything.
dreamdancer7699 - March 27, 2007 01:31 AM (GMT)
Are the Oscars over? Cause that seems to have died and I'm waiting to give an award. :P If it's done then I'll post it. Maybe we should have another group RPG for everyone to get involved in? I dont know, but you're right.... it has gotten slow.
sailorleo - March 27, 2007 01:39 AM (GMT)
i think we need to do something to get the new ppl excited and feel more at home here....and yes i know the whole how to welcome a new person bit...so...yeah....i think we need something more than that, beyond that, iono....
DRAKE - March 28, 2007 12:43 AM (GMT)
I think we should get the classes up and run again. One at a time though, so its not to much. I know most of the classes became dead and thats why they stopped but they haven't happened in a while and since all the new members are always trying to join classes, i really think they want them.
I'll be willing to help get some of the classes running and even teach one. I'm sure it'll be alot but I think it will be worth it.
Just a crazy idea :D

How much more welcoming can we get? I agree but it's hard considering most of the time newbies are going 'GAH WAH!! Where the frigg am I what am I doing where am I meant to be?' . . . A lot of them seem to get confused easily.
I want the IH Activities back . . . the proper ones we used to have back yonks and yonks ago . . . it used to keep the common rooms active at least.
Dusty Dorsy - March 29, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
Thats a great idea Reg, I know it will help with Slytherin Common room.. WE try but it just doesnt stay active enough. I know i havent been on much but im still trying to get job situtated so i can get out of this house. Im hopeing to hear back soon.
Professor Rogue - March 29, 2007 07:01 AM (GMT)
I think Leona's referring to like PMing newbies, I think she's been doing a lot of that recently. But yeah, just do what you have been doing with the newbies I don't think that's a problem.
The Oscars aren't done, shame on me I know, but I have 4 awards that I still have to make. So as soon as those are done (tomorrow) I'll just post those awards so that we can wrap the LC Oscars up.
I think Classes could defaintly happen again, most seem to enjoy those and we have a new system to keep things interesting. I just would like to start those once we have more folks visitng the site reguarly. I wouldn't want us to start classes and have about 3 people attending. I'll defaintly put that on the list though.
I like the Inter-House Challenges, that always got people active in the common rooms at least. Plus, we have the house trips coming up too, so if the IH challenges get people active again, then we can move on to the house trips.
Shonk Da 'Onk - April 1, 2007 09:16 AM (GMT)
But I'm a first year basher so I can't do that! Unless you want me to bash them in PM's :P jk
Anyway . . . I think we should have a Hogwarts express. Don't ask me why . . . I just realised there has never been RP's based on comming or going to hogwarts or whatever . . . Ugh . . . I dont have any ideas anymore.
Professor Rogue - April 1, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
A Hogwart Express would be interesting. That is something we've never RP'ed with...hmmm. It might also be good for the newbies who first join here. As a kind of way to get into the swing of role playing. I'll get on that.
I just remembered the "Item Quest" in which 3 members found Time Turners. Maybe that could be our Group RP that we all participate in?
dreamdancer7699 - April 2, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
Oh I LOVE Shonkie's idea! I think that's really great. That would have been something that I would have really enjoyed when I first started, and it would give the newbies a chance to interact with not only active members, but other newbies, and develope friendships which would help make them feel more at home. I like that a lot.
Shonk Da 'Onk - April 2, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
YAY and we can eat pumpkin pasties and licorice wands and sneak into other students compartments and steal there luggage. YAY!
Professor Rogue - April 2, 2007 11:06 AM (GMT)
Do you think the "Hogwarts Express" would work better as a single thread or an entire forum?
I think it would be fun too, it's something we haven't done yet. As soon as we figure out which way we'd like to go (as a single thread or forum) then I'll create it and get things moving.
I also think an IH Challenge is in order, but with things being at a stand-still, I'm not sure how "big" the challenge should be. Something simple, yet at the same time encourages everyone to work together. Any ideas?
dreamdancer7699 - April 3, 2007 04:28 AM (GMT)
 I bet we get some cool stuff that way Shonkie! :firedevil:
I think that depends on how big we want it to get. If it's one thread then there wouldnt be any confusion about whether they should start a thread of their own or not. Then again they might hesitate to join if they have to read a bunch of pages first. If we make a forum then we could have a new hogwarts express thread every 2 months or so, that way it doesnt ever get too long to read. Also if people start hitting it off they could start a thread where they are in a certain room kinda like Harry and Ron in SS. I dont know. I think either way it would work nicely, so I'll go with the majority on it. :P
MamaRune - April 4, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
As a Newbie, I think I'll poke my schnoz right in & join the frey.....
I joined yesterday after visiting this site semi-regularly for quite a while. Although I have worked through most of my, "'GAH WAH!! Where the frigg am I what am I doing where am I meant to be?'s", there remain a few, and I'm sure new WAHs will emerge as I learn even more of what I don't know.
RPG on the Hogwart's Express sounds like fun - BUT - the newbies aren't yet in a house. If you backed off from assigning houses to Newbies until they arrived at Hogwarts, it might make RP more interesting. I wouldn't know who to make friends with based on my preconcieved notions about which house I want to join. I'd simply go in & explore, using my own (horridly bossy & nosy) personality. In addition to the Sorting Questions, this would give the Hat a greater insight into each of our bents. Hat could also converse with the Prefects on board for their choices as to new sorts. OR.....
If Newbies continue to be sorted when they join, that's still great, but how about House cars for the trip to Hogwarts? That would build immediate rapport among house mates, and then IH games could start with perhaps greater involvement from the first years. Egads, do you want greater involvement from the first years???
Incidentally, Remy PM'd me shortly after I joined & welcomed me to the boards. Nice gesture & much appreciated.

alrerretta - April 5, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
Well here goes nothing.
I think the Hodwarts express is a great idea and should be used, but I am also the one that thought it would be good to have books in the library that we all could read if we wanted to know more about plants, animals, myth, fact, spells, potions and anyother thing to do with the magical world. Everyone knows some magic or old wives tale, even things they have read. by haveing books in the library we could use the info. in the RPG's to make them more interesting and have more to say. Thats my thoughts on the subject. What do you all think?
C J - April 5, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
((Newbie alert)))
Yeah! And everyone could submit some information!
alrerretta - April 6, 2007 03:06 AM (GMT)
C J if your talking about the books well that is the idea and the things can be from fic. books or real non fic. book or just made up, but we need to give credit to the authors of the books we get the info. from.[COLOR=#FF0099]
C J - April 7, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Yeah I guess... I'm just kinda slow to the head! *Tapps head*
Danial Tavian - April 7, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
How bout we Invent a harry potter rpg Olympics? We get the elite sites and have situations were we have to roleplay.
Like idk a Quiditch world cup were each site makes there own quidditch team. (xauror has excellent quidditch program and refferees theyd be great at hosting the stadium)
Also mabe a roleplaying dualing tournament of each websites elites. We could mabe do it once a year and mabe even turned it into a internet phenominon (dont know if i spelled that right but i dont care im exausted)
Just different categories and events like that and the winner of the olympics gets crowned best roleplaying harry potter site in the world! lol We could start out with 15 websites. I know several good ones that would do it (I think) anyways it could attract good members. What do u guys think? good or sould i be asleep?
singsong42 - April 7, 2007 05:47 AM (GMT)
I think those are pretty good Idea's and planned out a bit well also... I don't remember where I was gonna go on this but I was going to expand on your Idea...lol
Shonk Da 'Onk - April 7, 2007 07:10 AM (GMT)
ZOMG WAS THAT DANIAL!! *dies of shock* HE"S ALIVE . . . instead of olympics i would go with more along the lines of the triwizard things but blergh . . . but I hate the olympics so im biased I guess.
Ahem . . . I'd like the Hogwarts express as an actual forum. That way newbies can jump on and introduce themselves, like they do in the welcoming threads, but in RP form as their RP characters.
I can also actually do some prooper first year bashing this ways as well . . . :evilshonks:
Ahem . . . er yeah. I have no ideas for the IH activities.
Alreeata . . . ignore my miss spelling I cant be stuffed crolling up to see your name . . . I like the idea but . . . where/who would we get/write these books . . . thats the difficult part.
alrerretta - April 8, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
well shonkie we could start a thread called book shelf and in there we could put book names and anyone that has a spell, potion, charm, herb use, or what ever the title is can post it in the right book.
dreamdancer7699 - April 8, 2007 07:27 AM (GMT)
I think an Olympics is WAY too big. Especially with 15 other sites. I've always like the whole Triwizard idea. We just need two other sites (who are about the same in size as us, I think) to agree to participate in it. That might be complicated as well though. I think we should focus on things that can be done here on the site with our own members right now.
Professor Rogue - April 9, 2007 10:36 AM (GMT)
Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions. Please keep them coming! I just wanted to make a quick post right quick, I'll reply properly to everyone later.
But an Olympics is a great idea, but way too big right now. That would be a Triwizardy event, which we defaintly can put on the list of things to do, but not for right now I think. Right now I'm looking for an idea that will grab the attention of our old and new members alike. Something really new and yet not too big because we already have limited members of yet.
The Hogwarts Express is up, btw.
I had an idea for an Inter-house challenge (a competition between all 4 houses). My idea was to have like a Fashion show in which we had categories like "Sports Wear" "Prom Wear" and things like that and all the houses would have to create or find on the internet, pictures for each category. Then we have the show in which your character walks down the cat-walk witht the outfit your house created. What do you think?
Shonk Da 'Onk - April 10, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
HOUSE MASCOT COSTUME DESIGNS!!! :P Sorry . . .
Talon Rivieras - April 10, 2007 09:40 PM (GMT)
I think that we don't want just classes but a reward at the end. If we ever do come back to classes, I think that exams and report cards would be amazing in terms of keeping students' interests.
Shonk Da 'Onk - April 12, 2007 10:33 AM (GMT)
I suggest we try and get the clubs into gear again . . . I quite enjoy running my little club but there hasn't really been much happening with them so far.
RedButterfly - April 13, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)
I think all the ideas are great especially as a "newbie" but that's only my opinion. I have stumbled my way through finding where I need to be to get my school stuff done. So may as an idea I know they have a newbie guide but maybe more of a tutorial as where exactly to go and what is expected when you get there... what you should do... include short examples.
Professor Rogue - April 14, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Okay the Fashion Show IH Challenge seems to be a good idea, unless anyone else has anything to say about that. We can do that.
Myia, that's a good idea for Newbies. I'm sure they'll appreciate the tutorials on where to begin and such. Or even a detailed Frequently Asked Questions guide would help. I'll get on that.
Clubs should be still going on, part of that has to do with whose running the club. It's there job to schedule meetings, schedule activites and then go ahead and do them. I suggest have a recruitement party or something just to promote your club or something. But that should still be going on.
Good one Talon, I think actual grades would motivate members to participate, we can do that. The way classes will go is that we have 2 classes at a time, those two classes will last 2 weeks at a time I think. Just so we don't get overwhlemed with them like last time. Any suggestions for which 2 classes you'd like to start with?
dreamdancer7699 - April 15, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
Wow Shonkie... Does that mean he's saying that you actually have to work for our club? :P
I like the idea of grades also. Very gratifying. I'd personally love to have Potions and Defense against the Dark Arts first. They're probably the most popular also.
gammot - April 15, 2007 12:24 AM (GMT)
Agreed! Potions and DADA would probubly be the best, I know I for one would really enjoy them. Those two especially because of all of the things that go on in them in the books and movies... If anyone understands...
D. L. Button - May 8, 2007 05:09 PM (GMT)
Love the effort and the commentary on trying to boost the site. Heh, I've been gone two months and I'm sad to see it really doesn't take all that long to catch up... Anyway, school will be out for summer hols for many people soon, and hopefuly that will help us out.
The Hogwarts Express is just lovely. I've allready jumped in on one of those threads for the heck of it. As Dai is terrified of trains, there is potential for much entertainment there.
I also like th IH comeptition thing. Not so much up for the Fashion show myslef, but I'll run with it for the sake of the house and posting of course :P I say for tghe next one each house comes up with a decent Dragon wrangling strategy guide or something! (Fully illustrated, of course B) )
I'm not so much into the tri-wizard tournament. It sounds too complex in an RPG world where there seem alot of people who can't grasp the concept of godmodding let alone what in the world a tri-wizard tourney is.
If you want contest Ideas though, random contests, I threw out these ideas a while back in a different thread, but I still think they would be valid.
