Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, it looks as though our little wizard has all grown up! News has circulated across the internet of Daniel Radcliff's upcoming lead role in the play production of "Equus." This seems to cost a huge uproar in the Harry Potter community. Even more when some promotional pictures
of the play displayed a half naked Daniel in the company of an equally naked woman.

He has been quoted saying:

Daniel has been playing the role of Harry Potter for the past six years. Now 17 years old, it's perfectly understanable that he would want to venture out and do something else. Of course he'd want to shed his Harry Potter image. However, by venturing out and doing other projects include a full flege nude scene? Let's look at the timing for this folks. Daniel is 17 years old, the Order of Phoenix is on the brink of coming out and all of a sudden he chooses to do this play now? Why not wait until the Harry Potter films are done?

Right now, all people are looking at is "Naked Harry Potter" so has Daniel proven his point?

Does it bother anyone else that Daniel is the only one you hear about in this play? Whose the girl? What other characters are in it? What is the play about?! It seems as though the top promotion for it is Naked Harry Potter. Check out the promotional pics for Equus. They're all about naked Dan with a naked girl and a horse...surely there's more to this play than that. This photo shoot is really what makes the nudity the top story

Now I totally understand that Daniel is an actor and he can take on whatever projects he wants to. Yes. I fully respect that, but come now, surely he's expected this type of reaction. Overall, I think tha if the plays advertisement focused a little more about the play, covering all the actors and the actually story, then perhaps the focus on Naked Harry Potter wouldn't be so big.

I thought the psychiatrist was the main character in Equus, because Richard Burton played that role in the movie (which I haven't seen, but I read about it on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) boards).

Interestingly, in the play, Richard Griffiths (who plays Uncle Vernon in the HP flims) will play the psychiatrist. And someone in the "User Comment" thread on IMDb posted that Kenneth Branagh (Glideroy Lockhart) was originally supposed to direct it.

But Daniel seems to be the only one who's getting any press over it, maybe because he's the only one who gets naked. (Thank goodness that Uncle Vernon isn't going to get naked!)

I'm going to try to track down a copy of the movie (I don't even know if it's out on VHS or DVD), or read the play. Maybe then I'll understand why Daniel (and Uncle Vernon) want to do this

That's just the thing Twilight, Richard Griffiths is the lead role. Yet we hardly hear that much about him. It's all about Daniel getting naked as you said. Do you think this is a promotional stunt in getting people to see the play? If so, I'd say that it defaintly worked.

Gosh I can understand where Dan is coming from with wanting to play the role. It is the complete opposite of HP, and if he plays the role with any amount of success, he will be able to break away for HP and become Daniel Radcliffe the actor. I think that he's being totally exploited though. I almost have to wonder about his thoughts on this. Who says he's happy with the pics that are out... I'm sure he wanted people to see him as something else, but then again the mass hype of HP could have once again been underestimated by him when those pics were released... I hope this whole thing doesnt damage his career instead of help it.... (Did that make sense?)

I think Daniel is being exploited, but he probably realizes it, and is hoping it will help his career. Perhaps he's trying to exploit his exploitation.

While filming HP movies, Daniel has worked with some of the most experienced actors in the UK, who've been in lots of movies, and plays ranging from Shakespeare to modern controversial stuff. I expect he's discussed possible career moves with a lot of them, so he's not likely to be naive about the tabloids and so forth. He must know that doing Equus would generate a media frenzy, and he must think that he can handle it.

But speaking of people who have been left out of the publicity, the gal who gets naked in the barn with Daniel has hardly been mentioned. She must feel really left out!

As for the rumor about Kenneth Branagh (Lockhart) being originally supposed to direct Equus, all the post at IMDb said was that his reasons for dropping out were "unrelated to casting." And who knows if that source is reliable?

Anyway, I hope the critics decide that Daniel is fantastic in the play. If they say that he stinks, he's going to be dead in the water.

Leo...By this do you mean that he isn't a successful actor now? Or do you mean that he could be more successful? Because he is quite successful as it is...I mean he's HARRY POTTER for god sakes...I mean...Even I have a crush on him...

I think that it was a bad choice to even think about starriing in a play where some of the actors are naked. i mean c'mon! what if a little child in london was wlaking with their mom or dad and they saw Dan on the cover of some magazine nazed as a jaybird they might wonder why or they might be freaked out completely. i mean, i am sure he's getting mixed reactions on this work he started but i personally think it dirties up his (mostly) innocent hero image for all his fans that are at the age of 10 or younger. he should have waited and sprung this idea after the HP movies were completely "been there done that." but after all, it was probably his choice, because u can never make someone do something they don't wanna do unless they agree with the matter themselves. that's what i think.

I think it is good for him to try and attract older people in movies and to challenge himself,but I also think he could have done this in a better way than getting naked infront of everyone! I mean yea the bad thing is he's suppose to be a actor for kids....and us. This doesn't seem to be looking to good to me for his career in acting,because what kind of parent wants their kid looking at a naked teen boy? My mom would totally flip out!

i dont think he is going to get far in the acting world. Emma has a plan, if she cant act, or if people wont hire her, but Dan is depending on acting alone. I think its gross that he did that, and agree with Ari. Moms arent going to like that. But I do see why he did it. That doesnt make me like it any more. he doesnt want to be known as Harry Potter for the rest of his life. i think if you signed up for a movie of a popular book sieriesthen you should be expected to be known as that charater for the rest of your life. But then again, Im not living that life so its easy for me to say.

All I know is that I'm not going to watch the play. That would be gross, and I would never do that. I bet a lot of girls will want to go and see the live play. A lot of girls would want to see Dan nude, and see his.........you know whats. Some of the girls will proably jump up on the stage with him, and ya you get the picture. LOL!! I just know I won't go see the play, or get the movie or anything like that.

You have to remember that he was lyk 11-12 years old when he became Harry Potter. What sort of kid that age would be mature enough to know or consider such things. VERY FEW IF ANY . . . kids don't tend to think too much about their futures.

Overall I'da say go Dan. I wouldn't wanna see him in the nude but this was his decision and he did it despite the fact that such attitudes as these would arise. So obviously he has guts as well.

Personally though I think he is a shoddy actor so they could have gotten someone better I'm sure.
