Title: The LC's Offiical Website
Professor Rogue - January 21, 2007 09:57 AM (GMT)
::drum roll please::
I am so very please to introduce to you the Leaky Cauldron's Official Website. The-LeakyCauldron.net
Now, as many of you know, I'm kind of a perfectionist and I didn't want to release the website until it was all completly done. But, days have gone by and the news I've posted is slowly becoming old news. So I decided to present it to you all.
One very important rule you have to keep in mind while viewing the website: It is not done!!! Right now, I'd say that the website is about 70% completed. All of the pages are not completed yet, there are probably some broken links (when you click on it, page won't be displayed, etc.). Also, keep in mind that until now I've known nothing about HTML. This is really my first time playing around with it. It'll get better.
The website should help with the forums (here) over all I think. I really haven't had the time to go through each page and perfect it, at least the pages that are up. The layout is called Dark Cauldron, I'm changing it from what I have now. Hmm let's see. Also, I think the site looks good, but a little blah. So I'm going to spice things up by adding a few little pictures here or something, I'm not sure.
If you'd like to help out with something, just let me know. I could always use some more affiliates buttons for us and such. So let me know what you think about it and be as descriptive as possible. Don't just say "I like it" I get what you mean, but explain yourself. What do you like exactly? What don't you like? etc. It might be too early to do this properly seeing as the entire site isn't completed but you know what I mean.
I'm very excited about this.
Shonk Da 'Onk - January 21, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
I think you should change the picture on the enter page . . . something that matches the sites colour theme or banner or something. Don't ask me why it just seems weird at how different they look. :P
I like the braces or whatever you call them on the right side, even if they are a little pixellated looking.
Ginny_potter - January 21, 2007 10:54 AM (GMT)
WOW! I really like it, I Think the banner looks fine! Great job Reggie! maybe one day it will be you going 4 a interview with JK! :P love it woooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooo
Dark Witch - January 21, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
Very nice site.I really like it,the header is fabolous but like you said-it's not yet finished. This site will be perfect when you finish it.I am currently working on my own Harry Potter site, but it's really hard to make it.I hope my site will be good as yours.Keep up the excellent work!
Luna - January 21, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
YAY!
Ok, I had to get that out. Anyway... I like the pic on the enter page, I can just see Harry going dun-dun-dun! ENTER! But then it doesn't match the site all together that well. Not that it really matters that much.
I think once all the pages work it'll be fabulous. You even put a little editorial. *squee*
Anyway... nice site. Not much else I can say really. But I think it will really help with keeping the forums more actie, and maybe getting some discussions and things going, aside from just RPing. :D
sailorleo - January 21, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
oh ....lovely....the banners i made for your site aren't there...i feel loved...and i don't like the blending for the main banner at all, you can see the line....but yeah.....just me....
Professor Rogue - January 21, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
Don't hold back Leona. Thanks for your feedback, but I'm not sure of what lines you're talking about? Could you maybe describe it, or take a print screen picture of it and point it out to me?
I'm not sure about the ENTER page, I defaintly see what you mean about it not going along with the green theme of the rest of the site. But I'm not sure how much that matters. I'll try to find an appropiate picture to go along with it. Have any suggestions?
DarkWitch, I'd love to talk to you about your Harry Potter site because if you would like to continue with your's that's okay, but know that you are always welcome to help out with this one. PM me if you're interested and we can talk. :)
The best part I like I think are the left hand icons, ones that say Cauldron, Library, etc. I had those made awhile ago, had a hard time getting it right because it was too big and messed the coding up completly. But just yesterday I added the stars and little graphics on them to add a bit of color to this very dark theme.
sailorleo - January 21, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
your main banner with the OoTP pics...Harry...and the D.A I can see the line for D.A....when it would be much nicer blended IMO
dreamdancer7699 - January 21, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
I love it! And I don't knowwhat you're talking about Leo. :P Anyways, I can't wait to see it totally finished. You've got some cool stuff going on, like the character information, and spell guide and all that! Can't wait for it to work! :D
sailorleo - January 21, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)

that line
anyway...i have been told that my statement was rude....sorry, i can have OCD tendencies and that line would have bugged me to high heaven...or in my case high(low?) hell
Professor Rogue - January 22, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
Okay Leona, thanks. Remember, it's all about how you say it. ^_^ But yeah, I see where you mean, but I had to do a double take because I really didn't notice it. I suppose you're right but you have to be really looking to notice that.

I noticed it . . . and it bugged me too but I got sick of looking at that banner after the first bazillion times so I just tend to ignore it now :P
dreamdancer7699 - January 22, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
Awhhhh.... the family oddities similarities are coming out already! :P Hehe I didn't see it either. I guess the more artistic you are, the easier it is to pick up on stuff like that.
Dana Lynn - January 22, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
I really like the website and the colors especially. But my favorite color is green. But I think the site looks awesome. You have alot of interesting things featured on your site like the Potions, spells and characters ect. I really can't wait till you get it done. I think it is really looking good! Keep up the good work! I look foward to seeing what the site will be like after you are finished!
D. L. Button - January 22, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
Woohoo, official announcement! That means I really need to get my butt in gear over here...
Anyway.
I think I'll just let the other LC artists around here fuss about the graphics. I see they're point, but to tell all truth, I'm not particualary conserened. I say, Rogue, that working on finishing off pages and repairing broken links should come as a first priority. A that point, it's super easy to mess around with the graphics. After all, this is very much an informative site more than a graphical site, yeah?
I guess that's just my approach to web site creation. As stated before, I do like your color choices for text/links. I'm also quite impressed by the information you all ready have gathered. Wow, m man, the spells page is massive! And Impressive... and holy good golly. I'm also still very impressed by Shonkie's effort in that amazing gathering of information for the Book Seven speculation page.
There's plenty of work to be done yet, but for you to be attempting to build such a massive site as a first go with HTML, I can say I'm impressed all around, Rogue. I can also say, tis good practice. Keep her up! :wizard:
Professor Rogue - January 23, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
Yea, I'm with you D.L. I suppose I'm artistic but I really didn't notice cuz my primary focus is to get everything done. Like the links and creating these other pages, so that's the primary focus.
Thanks for the feedback guys! I'd have to say that I'm pretty proud of myself because this HTML stuff is quit confusing. I did have some help from this one girl Roxy from her design site. She cleaned up my horrible html layout (I was combinding div with tables or something like that) but she cleaned it up very nicely for me.
Oh yea, Shonks made the top banner for me, then I re-did it cuz she was busy at the moment. So I see why you're sick of it Shonks, too true! Oh yes, snaps to her for doing the general info page and the Information from Jo. That was a LOT of info, but very organized. Most of it I didn't know so I'm glad it's there.
Already I wan to learn something called PHP, because right now each page is done by HTML. So like right now we got a new Elite Affiliates...I know have to update every single page so that the right side bar looks like the main page. Which is a pain and time consuming. With PHP, I'll be able to update the first page and all the pages will look like that. :)
Also, already the site seems to helping folks. We had a returning member come back and he told me that the site really helped him because he wasn't up to date on all the Book 7 information. He then posted a couple of theories and such here so I'm very glad that it's helpful.
sailorleo - January 23, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
yay! results! woo! well have fun with PHP...heh heh..i've never used it myself...but hey, it's keeping you busy, so it can't be all bad...
D. L. Button - January 23, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
PHP can't be all bad, though I haven't made it to that class in school yet. I know that if you were using a program for your html coding, you could set up a template, which when changed would update all of the pages that were attached to it automatically (I speak of course of the very expensive, Dreamweaver :P Allthough NVU has such a function, if more complicated to use, as well...)
Couple of semesters at most and I'll have that expereince with PHP though. Not that this helps you NOW. Perhaps we could go in search of tutorials for such things? I know there are some good books out for it, but who wants to spend if they don't have too....
So, now I'm rambling.
flightofphoenix_fan - January 23, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
Reggie if you ever need some help with any PHP or Html, I can help. I have created many websites in the past. I have self taught myself. If you would like to view one of my sites here is the link for you to look at www.signatureretailprojects.com. Sorry I can't seem to make the link directly connect on this forum. But check it out am I'm sure I could help you out some. Just let me know!!! Otherwise, I think that the new since is on an awesome start. You have done a wonderful job as I can see.

:: jumps up and down ::
Thanks Becky! I will defaintly be contacting you! For the link, if you want to hyperlink it, you Fast Reply won't do it, you gotta click New reply and then the http:// button. That should do it.
But I looked at the link you gave me, very nice! The PHP is wonderful because everytime you click a link, the side bar never changes. Yup, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!
Also, I just two seconds away from getting the Spicy Quotes page that D.L. did up.

Meridae - January 24, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
Not all pages work yet. :)
I like it! Question though, as far as the fanfiction and fanart section go, when they're up, are you going to take them from the forums or just let people add theirs on to the site?
Luna - January 24, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
I say we let people just submit them. And them "screen" te fanart and fanfiction (not very vigorously or anything) but just so that the section can be a bit more separate. and maybe... if some random person (not from the forums) wanted to submit, they could.
Rock the LM.C - January 26, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
 I relly like the site very much :D I love the layout!!!
