Title: War Poll!!!!
Description: This is it all out War!!!
RNCybergate - December 11, 2006 07:50 PM (GMT)
I had this crazy idea of starting a war…well here it is…should be fun if done right….
Tell me what you think….
If enough people like it…ill see about starting it!
Plot:
****N.B. This is it...all out 'war'!!! N.B.*****
Lord Voldemort and his loyal death eaters have decided that it's time to finally attack Hogwarts and dispose of its inhabitants once and for all....
Where will you be in this epic battle of survival...will you fight along side the head master...the great professor Rogue...as one of Hogwarts protectors / soldiers.....
or....
Will you side with the evil Lord Voldemort...and be one of his loyal Death eaters...
The battle field is set and the tension is rising...who will survive and who will die...
Note:
This is war...make it look like one...
War Rules: (yes even war has rules!)
1) If you decide to post...then keep on posting...deserters get killed...(and I mean that.)
(A deserter is a person who doesn’t post for at least 5 days..may be expanded if good reason is given)
On the 4th you will receive a court martial (don’t worry just an owl reminding you to post)…
2)If you have had enough and do not want to fight anymore...create a heroic…or shameful ending....(in other words die...)(if you wish to leave but you want continue at a later stage then (obviously) don't die but make something happen to you which would explain your absence.( and tell us that your going to be out of action with a little OCC post)
3)Characters (you and me…not fictional characters) are allowed to change sides but are advised not to do so to avoid confusion and they must show a good reason for doing so when changing sides)
4) Note all spells are allowed in this forum (war) this includes any of the unforgivables…and (as a extra bonus) any made up spells (within reason).
5) if you get killed than that’s it…sorry lads…unless you have a very good reason for returning back to life there is nothing you can do about it…you may however return as a different character…but never as yourself…or an already used one.
6)War ends when (a ) all Death eaters are killed (b ) all of Hogwarts staff and students are killed (c ) any of the two flee…
(7) NB…Note…NB…This forum is separate to all other forums…please note that if you die here it does not affect the other forums
(8)Special Note... characters like Harry potter and Co can be created in this forum as long as they are used properly....and unlike us they have to stick to the Harry potter story line/
( Deatheaters can’t join the order and Harry can not be a death eater etc…(Snaps role is debatable)
Because of the demand for Cannon Characters we will have to restrict the use of certain 'Main' Cannon Characters to certain individuals (good rpers only)...if you wish to control a Cannon Character please send me a owl and ill post your name under the requested Cannon..only one person per Cannon Character unless otherwise stated)
Please note: (I reserve the privilege to control Any Cannon Character which has been abandoned...until a new owner can be found
**********************************************
Ok I think that’s it
Just one more thing… act realistically…don’t just decide to kill someone for no reason….friendly fire exists and traitors will be treated as such….
Oh and trouble makers will be used as cannon fodder...(this is to stop people like Shonks and myself messing around)
Any questions please post them in the questions and answers area below...
Other than that good luck…fight and try not to die…
Ok I think that’s it...lets do this...
LET THE WAR BEGIN!!!
NB: I may have to add or remove things if its necessary so check this site regularly for any changes or updates.
RNCybergate - December 11, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)
Ok please feel free to ask any Questions Which you might have about my recent 'war' Idea!
Ill get back to you asap!
flightofphoenix_fan - December 11, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
Do we get to pick a side or would we have to have certain traits to qualify?
RNCybergate - December 11, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
The main idea is that you are allowed to pick your own side..either DE (death eater or HD (hogwarts Defender)..
Fictional Chracters can be used if needed to fill up gaps
However if you feel a soting hat is required I can think of a few questions to ask...so that I can sort people...if it is desired.
Just rember rule 3
Characters (you and me…not fictional characters) are allowed to change sides but are advised not to do so to avoid confusion and they must show a good reason for doing so when changing sides)
flightofphoenix_fan - December 11, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
Well, the reason I ask is b/c there should be an even amount on each side. Some are more toward good or bad. I just think that I would make it more fair. Plus, is have asuggestion, Once someone dies, I think that if they would like to return then they should go on the opposite side. Meaning as if I was on the HD and I died and wanted to go back then I would return as a DE. Just to give everyone a chance to play both sides. But its totally up to you. I still think that its a great idea.
RNCybergate - December 11, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
As I said it’s totally up to you which side you pick (unless you wish to be sorted in which case I can help)
As for the fairness...Random Character can be created to subsidise this problem.
If you die...well then of course you may return (as a different character) on either side....(I think death is a good excuse to change sides...just don't ruin it ;) )
If we are experiencing major shortages then please try to return to the side which needs the men...but in the end its up to you!

An idea like that has actually been in the works and it was decided that it needs to wait a little while because of everything else that is going on right now. I also think that you're idea is WAY too elaborate. I think that people playing different characters and being able to die and then be on a different side and everything else is just too much. Also I'm concerned about godmodding with something like this. Who decides if a character dies? The person killing them, or the person's character? And who would choose to die if it meant they were unable to RPG in the thread anymore, if in fact there was no coming back to life? You see what I mean? I think that this is too much. I think that the concept of it is good, but that we should wait on it, and bring Rogue into the fold with working out the details.

Ok lets see... I realise this may nor be perfect...but lets at least make it work...
QUOTE
I'm concerned about godmodding
Don't worry ... characters (non fictional) will still be able to decide for themselves if they die or not...I realise that people don't like dieing and for this reason the 'attacked' will have the last choice whether their character dies...though they should try to stay/be realistic as possible...
Remember we want people to post as long as possible and not to die as the first shot.
If you have any suggestions on how we could solve this problem I will of course be happy to hear them.
(Some how we got the quidditch matches working and godmodding would have been a problem there too..so this should be possible too)
QUOTE
And who would choose to die if it meant they were unable to RPG in the thread anymore...
If a person dies then they will always have the choice to come back as another character...that is if they choose to let their character die in the first place...so they will actually still be able to continue rpg...as a different Character...
A school like Hogwarts has many more students then we have active posters...lets use these students…and then there is always the ministry.
Anyway thanks for your opinions...ill continue to look for better solutions to these problems....every little bit helps...
Thanks Dream

WAR? Uh...no thanks!
No offense....but WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE SMOKING! (just a joke...don't take it literally) This would raise hell on the website, confusion, spats over people dying, some people are apparently incapible of even RPing properly. Oh yes me and Dan a while back had a HUGE problem with this. (not currently active dan, just so's ya know) It would be all out dissaster I think and holy crap would the new people be confused. I hate to be the one who says nay...but seriously, what's so great about having a fake war anyway? I hate the idea of war in the first place. Its a battle over silly arguments, misinterpritations, anger, revenge, land, etc. We don't need any more fighting in our civilization, fake or not. We drive eachother to suicide largely enough already. Its pathetic that a person has to die or feel badly about themselves for us to feel good, or for us to finally realise what we've done wrong only to forget it two days later. If you think about it the war between eachother is fought every single day and still people fail to realise the damage. If we are so destructive of eachother then how are we to trust eachother? Or work together? I know this "fake" war will come to all sorts of disagrements and what if a few people decide to leave? I'd hate to see that happen.
We as humans are too easily pushed, to easily convinced, to easily offended. Lets not make any more trouble for ourselves than we have to.
RNCybergate - December 12, 2006 01:42 AM (GMT)
So much for my idea... :(
The largest theme of all of the Harry potter books is death... JK has fights in her books in fact people die in her books.
So are you trying to tell me that everything that has to do with death and battles is bad?
If so then why are we reading Harry Potter ay all?
Well...if there were no death and war some films would be really boring indeed.
Take Lord of the rings for example...the whole film is built upon one battle to the next...
I am not saying that we should really go to war...I’m just trying to make a duelling thread...add a bit of action into this website...
I can see that people are not going to like the idea..
Fair enough…then at least tell me how to make it better…tell me how I can make it useable…
Over the past few weeks I have heard from different people how good it would be to have a bit more action...how good it would be to bring the death eaters into this place.
Now all of a sudden I am hearing the opposite.
Well I have done what I could...now it’s up to you to decide if you want to do it.
If you have any suggestions or any ideas how you would like to improve this idea…then please tell us...
Instead of finding faults... for a change…let’s try to find a way to make this work instead.
It’s all up to you!
dreamdancer7699 - December 12, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
Hear hear! That is an excellent point as well Mel. So basically, once again... this is way too confusing on a few different levels obviously...
sailorleo - December 12, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
make love, not war!
Shonk Da 'Onk - December 12, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
I said yes mainly because I find the RP's to be boring at the moment but the other are right about it causing problems.
There was enough biatching caused a while back when a few people were just RPing as Death Eaters. Eventually they just disappeared which kinda disappointed me coz they made the RP's interesting . . . though I think I was part of the reason they left.
Twilight - December 12, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
I’m for it. As I said in some other thread, RPing is basically some kind of weird cross between improv theater and a creative writing exercise. (see Suggestion Box -> RP Ideas, and check out Prof. R’s latest reply).
I think it would be fun to try playing a different role in a specific thread. I mean, Tom Felton isn’t evil in real life, but does he have fun playing Draco Malfoy? You bet he does! And he’ll have fun even if Draco eventually gets killed.
And if war, death and DEs is too heavy a topic, we could always pick a lighter theme. Some of us could be giant spiders, for example, or werewolves, or centaurs. And we could limit it to a specific thread, so it doesn’t spill over and offend anyone who doesn’t want it.
Right now, we all work to give each other something to react to (like a pie in the face). And we have to be careful, or we can actually get mad at each other, for real!
At present, the best option to liven things up is to cooperate and invent characters (like an enraged professor, or giant mutant psychotic owls) and keep them in play, without any specific person behind them, so they are limited in how creative or intelligent they can be. (The owls are brilliant, by the way!)
If we can keep something that complicated going, I think we could manage to avoid getting confused by something like what Rupin proposes.
Personally, I wouldn’t use cannon characters. There’d be too much fighting over who could play which one, and whether they were doing an adequate job of it. (No one would ever agree on what Snape should do, for example).
Shonk Da 'Onk - December 12, 2006 08:24 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't be worried about the cannon characters thing. We have had RPG's where we have used cannon characters and no one really spit the dummy about who was who and whatnot.
flightofphoenix_fan - December 12, 2006 08:49 AM (GMT)
Sorry that I have to be the in between-er. I think that its a really cool idea in all, but I do think that it would eventually get complicated. It could start alot of fights between all of us. I don't think that would be the best but hey what do I know. Everyone has been here longer than me. I go with the flow of things.
Rudolphus - December 12, 2006 09:00 AM (GMT)
I like the idea and I think, since it doesn't affect the rest of the RPing threads, it's like a game... What is the sence of being in a HP rp forum where DEs don't threaten hogwarts once in a while or some mistirious accidents happens to some studant or some other studants ploting a entry to one of the other houses common room? It's all about teenager behavior: fight for what you bielive in, want more than you can get and get in trouble for it...
To tell you the truth I haven't seen a thread here where people aren't just talking bout life and no more than that (note I haven't seen ALL the threads haha)
Just my view on the subject
Shonk Da 'Onk - December 12, 2006 09:05 AM (GMT)
So true! I'm bored with all the RP's here . . .
Every now and then a good RP will pop up but eventually it turns out like all the other . . . everyone just talking about there lives and such. Of coarse I too haven't read every RP but I don't think there is anyone that has. :P

That isn't true. The largest theme of all the Harry Potter books is the power of your heart and the power of friendship. This is why JK Rowling bothers to make Harry, Ron, and Hermione friends. This is why she made them have conflicts with eachother and have them come back as friends.
Death Dealers, Death, and War. If it is too big a topic, can you just simply not join in the war forums? It is not like anyone is forcing you to be a part of it. The sun exists in our solar system but no one forces you to do anything about it. The war forum can be part of the LC but no one will force you to be part of it. Everything is about choice. You can choose to risk friendships. You can choose to risk creating new ones.
About the people who say nay to violence, I'm sure all of you know about the thread with MUTANT ZOMBIE OWLS. No? Than you need to read more on the LC.
About the people who say aye to violence, Shonk is your leader... That is all...
As you can probably see, I'm an in betweener.
mwiley - December 13, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
*mwiley*
I loved your first paragraph talon! The others not so much.
Sorry guys, obvious to say yesterday wasn't such a great day to bring up war :P
But seriously, I don't think risking the bonds we've formed on this site over a war. Its just asking for trouble. I'd hate to see this place a ghost town..again...for the third time...
Twilight - December 13, 2006 04:03 AM (GMT)
I don't think it would be more likely to cause interpersonal strife than a lot of other things we do, like playing quidditch, for example. People sometimes pretend to be playing rough in quidditch, but at the same time, everyone cooperates to keep the game going and keep it interesting.
Shonk Da 'Onk - December 13, 2006 05:32 AM (GMT)
Good point . . . and woot I'm leader *dances*
Anyway . . . I don't see what everyone is fussing about. Dalejin already goes around threatening to kill people yet everyone still seems to like him don't they. We already have a mini sort of war going on anyway, how can you all forget Mjmort and the Pretzels. I thought this was brilliant! :) True it is a little sarcastic but MJmort sure can't be called nice now can she . . .
Amy Excosis - December 13, 2006 07:36 AM (GMT)
Just wondering. . . . where do we start? here? or is there another place were supposed to post that i missed?

Thanks for your vote Amy...
The War has not actualy started yet...this thread is here so that I can find out if people like the idea and to let people ask questions, make suggestions etc..
At the moment its about 50 50 so im not sure if its worth it yet...(if I really start this up for real I want this to work)
I guess in the end Rogue himself will have the last word.
We shall see what happens!
Amy Excosis - December 13, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
well hope that we do get the war cause it sounds interesting. :) it would make this place a lot more interesting. B) so hope u get more votes.
Sardine - December 13, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
We've already had a 'war', and if this has been said before, im sorry, but I cant be bothered to read through three pages of posts.
As i said, we've had a 'war' before, and while fun, eventually it got confusing and boring.
mj - December 13, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
Ummm... I don't know. I'm really not sure. I'm really against war and such. I hate the fact that all the incocent people are killed. But I mean this is RPing and I am Drk Lord MJmort... HEY! I don't think I can follow Voldie anyway... I'm the dark lord... not him! HP killed him and I killed HP!!! (See RP Mortiez!) Anyway... It sound fun but too complicanted. It was a fun I dea Rupin. Thanks for trying!
Twilight - December 14, 2006 04:24 AM (GMT)
If it's been done before, as Sardine says, and it was FUN for a while, why not do it again?
If the biggest problem is that it might eventually get confusing and boring, that's not a very serious problem. That's what happens to most threads in the end, anyway.
We should at least try to get a quidditch match going, or something!
mj - December 14, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
Problem with matches is they slow and certain teams aren't fit to play. Some houses are inactive and everything. It's really hard with matches but with war theres no houses just good and evil... though I'm still torn in the middle...
nikhil - December 15, 2006 12:44 PM (GMT)
i dont think that they are in large enough numbers for the fight to be a war...
its always been a fight so far.... at max it will be a battle... but it wont be a war.... besides voldy might be an immortal.... but he definitely cant fight a hundred wizards at once..... even though he got rid of Dumbledore and a lot of prominent wizards and witches..... the numbers are still highly stacked against him.
mwiley - December 18, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
I still don't like the war idea, this site has died off over less, but I you guys want to go ahead just keep that in mind. I won't take a part in this.
If all goes well that's great...but if it turns out that you start fighting, 1. stop this madness 2. don't say you didn't see it coming and 3. Remember it for the future.
That's all I have to say.
nikhil - December 20, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
no war for me, thanks anyway
