Title: The Deformation of the Centaur
Description: Firenze of the movies.

I was just wondering if anyone else, while watching the first movie, took the opportunity to cringe at what happened to our dear Firenze? Remember how in the books his human half is described as being so beautiful and such a delightful specimen on the female eyes ( :naughty: )? Now remember that... mock centaur they gave us in the movie?

What happened to my eye candy centaur?

Moreover, if he shows in the fifth movie, will he look exactly as he did in the first? What about the female students who half fell over themselves to see him? Not in this rendition...

I don't think he will look as he did in the first movie, however I don't know if he will look any better. All I know is that they casted someone new to play him so . . . I guess we can always hope. :D

Well as a woman and a semi artist of sorts, I'm am unabashed in saying I had a fantastic fanatsay image of him going in the books. I know, your right they wouldn't care... but maybe if we had a woman director it would be a different story? Lol, just kidding, just kidding. :P

I don't think the centaurs would even care to admit to human tanted technology, so on that note, I'm safe to say I shouldn't get any backlash from the herd in response to this topic :<<

And they casted someone new did they? I suppose he hada rather tiny part in movie one, most folks wont know the difference. Unless they do choose to make him pretty. Oh, this discussion is giving me the urge to give in to a fan art notion of what the Firenze of my mind looks like

I was thinking the same thing when I watched Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone again the other night. I hadn't really thought about it before until I heard Hagrid call him Firenze. And I was like ain't Firenze supposed to be the hot one? lol But yeah they totally didn't make him out to look like he is supposed to look in the book! I totally agree with you. Hopefully they will get it right in the 5th movie.

And then the question is, what is 'getting it right'? I thought of this after a brief discourse with Shonkie.

When you picture your version of Firenze, do you see something of a pretty, clean shavn girly boy blonde palamino? Or do you come up with a more masculine featured individual?

Stirctly a matter of curiousity on this one. I admit, I see more feminine features myself...

Shonk Da 'Onk - December 15, 2006 01:23 AM (GMT)
I see him manly . . . I mean he lives in the forbidden forest after all. He isn't going to be sitting around worrying if he has a bit of fuzz on his chin or not :P

D. L. Button - December 15, 2006 05:31 AM (GMT)
No no, I think he would be naturally fuzz-less! I don't want to imagine a bunch of big biered Hagrid sorts running about on four hooves through the forest! Err, maybe not to that extreme?

Okay, I could be able to go along with the well groomed and close cut beard. Yeah... No gotee though, that's a disturbing thought.

lol talking about centaurs and such have any of you seen the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The lion, the witch and the wardrobe. if i recall there are some centaurs in that one are those any better??

D. L. Button - December 16, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
You know, I need to re-watch Narnia, but memory is telling they were better. At least they looked human on the human half! Lol, poor Firenze looked rather... lumpy. For want of better discriptive word on that. I know, it's all about the CG'ing.

Anyone ever watch Hercules the Legendary Journeys? I always liked thier centaurs, but they actually combined human and horse in computer arrangement to create them. :(

Dana Lynn - December 19, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
When I think of Frienze I think of a manly kind of centaur, no chest hair, long blonde hair and very good looking and yes palamino. I don't think of him as girly good looking because I think of centaurs as hard-working and he seems like a really good natured centaur that does his share of the work. If he had too much hair that would probably not go good for me, I aint into chest hair and a bunch of hair though. But all people are different. I just wish they had made him look more like how Jk described him in the book.

Shonk Da 'Onk - December 19, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
Im not saying I want him to have a fuzz face Im just saying I would highly doubt he would care about being clean shaven. *sigh*

Yeah I've seen Hercules thingo ma bob . . . they also had the same thing in the Xena series which my mum is adicted too. They looked like centaurs at least but they weren't too realistic looking from what I can remember . . .

Ok I was just looking at the cast list again and Firenze isn't on it anymore. Bane and Magorian are though . . .
