The Chrestomanci books are awesome. There are four of them as far as I know and I have to say my favorites are The Lives of Christopher Chant and The Magicians of Caprona. The books are set in a world similar to ours except for the fact that magic is normal and some histrical events had different outcomes. If you ever get a chance read them.
