I love Voldy!!! I think I shall continue to call him that. Just like I can picture the characters in my mind any which way I choose, I will also call them by any nicknames that I choose. But thank you for sharing your opinion Oct! :D

Umm October do you have any proof of this, like on J.K.s Offical site or something? Cause if not as far as I'm concerned I will call Voldemort any names I please, thanks for sharing though :P
gammot - October 14, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
yes...it says on her site...but if you don't believe me you can take this off. But i just think that if she asked it that we should at least say that someone on this site has posted and has asked not to also.
dreamdancer7699 - October 14, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
I really don't understand why it should be a big deal. That's like saying that no one on the site can call me Dreamy, because my actual character name as it's written is Dream. That's just ridiculous. I really don't care what her site says about it. Unless JKR (herself face to face) or Reggie tells me that it's not allowed and I'll get in trouble for using it, then I'll continue to. I'm sure I'm not the only person with this opinion either.

Oh i know... I understand that I'm not saying that I want everyone to stop...i'm saying that it was asked on JK's site...that's all. Now I feel like I was being mean or something because i said it... If thats true then i'll shut up.
Ginny_potter - October 14, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
VOLDIE!!!!! :P sorry had to be done..... B) :<< :naughty:
Luna - October 15, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
lol... it did.
But no, you weren't being mean.. it's alright.
JKR really did ask that fans not call Voldemort Voldie. The reason being, it diminishes his real character. Because he is a purely evil creature (not even human) and giving him such a cutesy name is just a bit like praising the evil, and fawning over it.
But, no, I don't think we absolutely need to stop using it, but it would be nice it you did try to write out his name at least part of the time. I understand that he's got a long name, but just if you could make an effort to occassionaly try and remember JKR wishes and acknowlege them, that'd be great. :)
Dusty Dorsy - October 15, 2006 12:59 AM (GMT)
Umm in the books I thought they used Voldy for short at least just the trio. I would have to read the books again to make sure. I say if its used in the books we can use it too. IT isnt right usingit in the books then no where else.
gammot - October 15, 2006 01:48 AM (GMT)
But its not in the books...unless there was a HUGE typo in just one or two books...but i'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen...
dreamdancer7699 - October 15, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
PFFT! I'll use freedom of speech to call him anything I want. That's not right. I don't think that anyone should be told what they can or can't call a fictional character.
Dusty Dorsy - October 15, 2006 02:30 AM (GMT)
I know I believe that since its a fictional character and that its easier to spell people use it in fan fics especially with the trio together. I mean you dont always wnat to keep looking up his full name when you have Harry saying something about him.
Ginny_potter - October 15, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
well..im gunna carry on calling him voldie..sorry
Shonk Da 'Onk - October 15, 2006 10:00 AM (GMT)
:voldie:
Quote from JK's official Site: (it can be found in the rumours section people)

Erm . . . I was joking. I thought it was very amusing when I found a chat room full of people calling him 'Voldy'. Maybe I should develop a secret symbol that means 'this is a jokie', a kind of anti-Dark Mark? And incidentally . . . I wasn't really Squidward that day in the MuggleNet char room either. Thta's a SpingeBob SquarePants in-joke. I used a different name. So you can all stop logging on as Squidward now ;)
VOLDIE VOLDIE VOLDIE VOLDIE . . . :P
Ginny_potter - October 15, 2006 10:29 AM (GMT)
hehe i new JK wouldn't say such a stupid thing and mean it :firedevil:
Shonk Da 'Onk - October 15, 2006 11:36 AM (GMT)
What I find funny is this is reaaaaaaaaallly old news but whatever.
Sardine - October 15, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)
It is old,yes.
But I normally say "Voldemort" cause im used to it. The Trio doesnt call him by anything other than 'Voldemort/You Know Who/He Who Must Not Be Named'.
And id be pretty miffed if people called my evil villian by some nickname.
dreamdancer7699 - October 15, 2006 09:20 PM (GMT)
Woohoo!!!!! Just gotta say it! Voldy! Love the Voldy! LONG LIVE VOLDY!!!!!! :jaydance:

I know...so would I thats why I posted this in the first place because I know that if It was me and someone was doing that I would feel like they were making fun of my ideas...my hopes, my dreams... i'ts like one of those it takes someone whos been through it to ask others to stop things...But if you all want to make fun of Voldemort and of a book that I know you all LOVE (this comment isn't including people who don't use those nicknames.) Then I'm happy for you!
dreamdancer7699 - October 18, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
It isnt making fun of him for me. He's become a character that I hold dear. If and when he dies in the next book, I'll probably cry like I did when Sirius and Dumbldore were killed. I dont give things nicknames to mock them. I give nicknames to those that are endeared to me. We are talking about a fictional character here. If you dont want people making their opinions, names and ideas in their heads about it, then dont share it with billions of people.
gammot - October 18, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
I'm not saying i don't sgree with you also Dream, all I said is that If I heard or saw someone making up fake nicknames for my characters I would feel like my Ideas were being made fun of...like for example I'f I got my book published and someone started making fun of Cappy, Leo and the werewolf (my evil people) I would feel like they were dumb names and that people wanted to change them...I wouldn't feel like they were too long or too short...that was the point that I was trying to make...I hope that gets understood soon bacause trying to explain it over and over agin is cutting into my 'feel bad for myself' time (and if you wanna know what that is then send me an owl and ask because i don't wanna share it with everyone that reads this post.) and that time...is really really EXTREAMLY TOTALLY NEEDED!!!
nikhil - October 19, 2006 10:00 AM (GMT)
can we call him marvolo jr or jr.riddle or jr.tom or just riddle(only he is left)or marvalo or 1/7soul , i mean all of it true and factual, at least they are not as big as voldemort, personally jr tom is small but i dont like it, so riddle sounds better?
i think she was not serious(she checks the net,so i guess shes looking at theories)
jay-james - October 20, 2006 01:09 AM (GMT)
I think that those'd be okay but i think that Oct just didn't put them on...
Shonk Da 'Onk - October 20, 2006 08:02 AM (GMT)
You lot are way too pesimistic :P
If I had a book published and people started giving my characters nicknames I wouldn't be like 'ZOMG NOO DONT DO THAT!! YOU THINK MY CHARACTER HAS A DUMB NAME!!' I would be like, 'ZOMG WOOT! MY CHARACTERS IS COOL ENOUGH FOR A WHOLE BUNCH OF WEIRDO'S TO GIVE HIM/HER NICKNAMES!! WOOT!!'
Why? Well I would think that because people give nicknames to people/characters/pets (yeah my pets have nicknames so what) because they like them. So it's a compliment
Of coarse it does sometimes depend on the nickname . . . so things like Pot Head would be unappropriate not Voldie. :)
jay-james - October 20, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
Some people call Harry 'Pot Head' and i'm not sure but I think that when she posted this she ment it as a figurative thing...and if you don't think that makes scence then don't get mad at me because it makes a bunch of scence to me.
marywyman - October 22, 2006 05:25 AM (GMT)
This is funny, here we are discussing whether or not we should or should not be calling a fictional (made up character) in a book a nickname that we ourselves use on a site used for roleplaying (imaginary play acting). Frankly, I think that JK would find this hilarious. Just because VOLDY is evil to some ones standards doesnt necessarily mean he is evil to everyones standards, he might be a nice well respected wizard to an upper level CEO of a big corporation for all we know. For me he is a bit twisted in the power is everything and wanting to live forever, well some people would love to live forever. (personally I am all for harry frying his tail end and putting all the deatheaters on cleaning up dragon dung for the next 20 years, but that is just me). VOLDY VOLDY VOLDY VOLDY
VOLDY VOLDY VOLDY
YAY VOLDY
Shonk Da 'Onk - October 22, 2006 06:20 AM (GMT)
 I'm all for world domination so GO VOLDIE GO in my opinon but maybe thats just because I'm sick to death of happy endings.
marywyman - October 22, 2006 07:09 AM (GMT)
But the question is happy ending for whom? If Voldy wins isn't Voldy happy? Poor Poor voldy, he doesnt seem to count when it comes to being happy :( LOL
