Title: RPG Ideas?
Description: Just ignore this if I sound like a loony
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 26, 2006 09:56 AM (GMT)
Okie dokie . . .
Well, seeing as a lot of RPG seems to get stuck due to lack of teachers/authority figures being around to yell at students and stuff etc, I was thinking that we make up a few characters that anyone on the boards can use so we don't have to wait around for Reggie, who is always busy, or whoever to post . . .
For example, if there was an RP where there are a bunch of people running about after hours when they shouldn't be, creeping around the halls and such, causing mayhem . . . the usual, then while they are at it and such someone could RP ina a caretaker who could come lurking around the corner and spot said mischief makers and then they could all go on a big chase around the school trying to avoid the caretaker and since anyone can RP him the RP wouldn't go on hold because they wouldn't have to wait for certain people to post . . .
Anyway, there would, obviously, be certain guid lines to using such characters. You would have to keep them in character and not just use them to your own advantage.
Just an idea . . . ignore me if I make no sense.
Dalejin - July 26, 2006 12:32 PM (GMT)
Excellent idea Shonk. I have to agree that this idea would greatly help to keep the RPs going for a longer time. We would surely have to set up ways that these characters would act so we dont have them jumping out of character with every new person that controls them. But I'm sure we could figure this out.
Dusty Dorsy - July 26, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
Thats a good idea Shonks what you are talking about is Cannon Characters. Some places you have to pick the Cannon Character you want to control at these places they have a thread specific for Cannon Characters. These are characters that are actually outof the books. However this might also go against the rules unless Reggie saids this is a good idea. Considering that this is a kind of Godmodding that is happening. plus Reggie or wh o ever started the pick a Cannon character thread would have to keep up with it every day to make sure each person has a character but there is also the idea that not everyone would want one. or if someone wanted to register with that name what would happen? would you not have the character anymore? I findi t hard doing Cannon Characters but thats just me.
Professor Rogue - July 27, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Yes, those are called cannon characters and I never really got the idea myself but I think we can make it work for us. There would defaintly have to be certain guidelines and such, for example, I'm not sure on the idea of everyone being able to control this character, that could get confusing really quick. I know what you mean about the authority figure thing, I try to post around but that's not always possible.
We could set it up so that if people would like a cannon character, they can have one, but it's not required. But that would mean that it would be VERY important people write what character they are playing in every post, like this:
Professor McGonagall
Then continue with their role play. What do you think and what other rules do you think we can come up with, to avoid problems with this.
Sardine - July 27, 2006 04:06 PM (GMT)
I think it's a good idea.
But with these characters, we cant always be on and the 'authority' figures tend to repeat the same actions,so why dont we make a system that has two people per Canon Character? Then they sort of take turns:
Person 1: Playing Prof. Snape
Person 2: Just being normal
Person 1: Cant post due to school
Person 2: Plays Prof. Snape
It can get complicating, but it can also work. Anyone get what im saying?
Dusty Dorsy - July 28, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
Now question is do we want just the professors from the school (this includes all the DADA professors they had in the book). Or do we want like the Minister and things? We still need a list of Characters. Also do we want the Professors played by the house they were heads of in the books. For example Professor snape played by slytherins Mcgongall by Gryffindors etc. Or we could have it first come first serve basis. That way no one feels left out.... These are just questions that should be thought of.
Sardine - July 28, 2006 05:49 PM (GMT)
I like the idea that the Slytherins play Snape, Hufflepuffs play Helga etc, cause they're the best suited for that character. Talon can be really mean and fits the character of Snape, Meridae is really kind and caring, fitting the character of Helga. So,for the Heads of Houses, i think that their house should only be allowed to play them, but for every other character they can be played by anyone.
Not too sure about people being the Minister...C. Fudge is a bad influence :)
Professor Rogue - July 29, 2006 06:07 PM (GMT)
True, the Ministry wizards have a lot of power, meaning they can institute rules and such, so I don't know if we want to give them that much. They'll have more than me! But I think it would be a LOT simpler to do it like you all suggest:
Snape for Slytherin, perhaps
McGonagall for Gryffindor
Refresh my memory but who is the head of houses for Huffelpuff and Ravenclaw? Professor Sprout? I think that this would be the best idea, because for example, in the Qudditch game, things have been stalling because we're waiting for a member to post. People get busy and these things do happen, so it would be great to have a Cannon Character and members able to role play as thought characters, to get the RPG moving again.
Dusty, I have a list of characters. . . .it's very long though. It list about all students, professors, etc. like that. Would you like me to post that? Do we still need it? I'll look over it and just post the charactes and such that we need, I don't think we'd need the Death Eaters, shop owners and people like that.
Ginny_potter - July 29, 2006 06:17 PM (GMT)
could we have a hogmead we have a hogs head but not hogs mead
and the ministy?
Sardine - July 29, 2006 07:54 PM (GMT)
Emily...Huh?
Slytherin- Severus Snape
Hufflepuff- Pomona Sprout
Ravenclaw- Filius Flitwick
Gryffindor- Minerva McGonagall
Harry Potter
Draco Malfoy
Ron Weasley
Vincent Crabbe
Hermione Granger
Gregory Goyle
Hannah Abott
Neville Longbottom
Cho Change
Dean Thomas
Patil twins
Seamus Finnigan
Just a few people off the top of my head :)
Dusty Dorsy - July 30, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
IF we had a C. Fudge i could play him. lol I could play him very well lol make him out to be like Seigfried. DONt ask. Its just hat the actor that plays fudge also plays Seigfried in All creatures great and small.... Anyways I dont htink we hsould have the students. just a few professors unless we make rules like ministry and book students only outside of hogwarts like in the hogshead. Oh yeah and the reason we dont have a hogsmeade is because of he fact that it would be too much right now. I mean I moderate the hogs head and thats simple but to do the hogsmeade with whats happening thas gonna be tougher.
Sardine - July 30, 2006 07:50 AM (GMT)
Wouldnt it be a bit unfair if we just had professors? Then we'd be fighting over status and stuff...
Severus
Minerva
Sinistra
Srpout
Flitwick
Binns
Hagrid
Madam Hooch
Vector
... Those are all the professors I can remember.
Just for the record though, may I be Madam Hooch please?
Professor Rogue - July 30, 2006 10:13 AM (GMT)
Yeah Emily, what Dusty said about Hogsmead. We're going to be having a few shops and such from there (Madame Padfoots, Hogs Head, and Stevie wants 3 Broomsticks) but having ALL of Hogsmeade right now will be too much I think. Kind of random, but okay. :)
Okay, what I'm hearing is that we want to extend the canon characters outside of the professors? That might work. I mean, think about it, we do tons of things that extend outside the Professors of Hogwarts. Having control over that character, would be an excellent benefit don't you think? But would will still do the houses having control over their head of house? Is that out or are you we doing both?
Thanks for the list Sardine! Madame Hooch is yours if you want her. But we have to figure out how we are going to do this.
Sardine - July 30, 2006 10:26 AM (GMT)
I still think that only people from the Head of Houses house can be the Head of House.
Hogsmead is way too big for us to have everything,Emily. As Dusty and Reggie have mentioned.I dont get what you mean by ' extend the canon characters outside of the professors' , Reggie.
Shonk Da 'Onk - July 31, 2006 06:52 AM (GMT)
Awww . . . why do they have to be cannon characters. I just wanted a caretaker with a cane so he could go around hitting students over the head with it. Spose Filch wouldn't really object to doing that though . . .
REMY-SALINAS - November 30, 2006 11:00 AM (GMT)
 sorry i hadn't seen this before but i really like the idea of a cranky old caretaker going around whacking students on the head might make some of us think twice before sneaking out of the castle after hours especially is shonk was said caretaker :P
Shonk Da 'Onk - December 1, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
Hee Hee . . . it would be fun wouldn't it.
Twilight - December 1, 2006 04:08 AM (GMT)
I'm glad this thread has been revived. I like the idea, although I'm not sure how to work out all the details. But it would add to the fun of a food fight, for example, if there were more authority figures to upset (in addition to whoever gets hit by flying food).
Since we're RPing, maybe several people could agree to play specific authority figures (cannon or otherwise), instead of their usual characters. That should be fun. After all, RP is basically some sort of wierd cross between improv theater and a creative writing exercise. Portraying and developing a different character from time to time would exercise everyone's imagination. We could take turns playing the spoil-sport.
Professor Rogue - December 1, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
I agree Twllight, RPing works like that too. It's just kind of been an unspoken rule here at the LC that everyone plays "themselves" which is their character. But yes, if in certain RP's you want to use cannon characters, that is totally fine. It would have to be posted in the first post, like before you begin RPing, you'd have to specify that each person plays 1 character and that you need to write what character you are playing at the beginning of each post in bold. Like this:
Ron Weasley
"Harry no!" Ron cried, looking at Harry.
Get the idea? This way, authority figures would still be in place without say, myself as the Headmaster participating in that RP
scarolina214 - February 14, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
Great idea Shonks. Maybe we could make a new poll that asks for names of new authority figures. Might work out and be pretty awesome. Or maybe we could upgrade old members too. That'd rock. TTYL. Good idea tho.
michaelman311 - June 26, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
Well, if someone was to make a role playing game, then it should be a mmorpg (massive multi online role playing game.) I think that you should pick your house, customize your character, go to class, chat, learn spells, ect. There would be lvls but they would be determined by the year. You could make clubs that would be guilds. There would also be pvp by duels or 15-30 player matches in the hall ways or grounds. You could go to hogsmead to buy new wands, new robes, new hats, new cloths, ect. All with better stats. I suppose there would be quidditch matches. But rather then what house your in, it would be your lvl. You could make money by finishing quests or tasks for teachers and students, finding it, beating people in duels, or just killing creatures in the forbidden forest or around the grounds. I would definently buy it.
