Just wanted to get everyone's take on Gilderoy Lockhart!

He was thrown in there by J.K. Rowling to be a bit of a comical relief in the book. But was he really all that comical, or did he just annoy you the whole time?

Talk about Gilderoy Lockhart here!

I thought he was reallllllllllly annoying actually. The only time I like him was at the end after he lost his memory. I hated how he thought he was all that and such.

He is some where in the middle. He's amusing, but if I were to talk to him I would be annoyed soooooooo fast

defenitly annoying!! i thought he was the worst whenever he was trying to give harry advice on how to become famous. such a stuck up, self absorbed person! thank goodness i've never met anyone like him in real life :P . i did think the part in the cos after the spell went wrong was hilarious...."do you live here?...." but what i found even funnier was ron's reaction :lol: .
later on when they ran into him in the hospital wing in ootp he was just plain annoying again!!

i found him really annoying. he was such an eogmaniac. and everyone thought he was really cool and all but he wasnt. that goes to show that u should get to know people b4 u think u like them.
and it says that u shouldnt like people for what they have done

I voted annoying at first...but then amusing. At first he was quite annoying. Who just pretends their great at everything, when they're only good at memory charms...and stealing credit. Lockhart, thats who! But I agree w/ bianca, I thought he was hilarious when he lost his memory.

lockhart is annoying..he just someone looking for popularity and that annoys me..espacially is they lie on things they do...

Personally, I thought that Gilderoy Lockhart was REEEEEEALLY annoying!! I couldn't wait to get him out of the story. Then Ron's wand backfired on him, and that was pretty hilarious. Lockhart was now gone; or so we THOUGHT!! Then he COMES BACK in the fifth book!!!! I didn't really like that, but it was funny how he couldn't remember anything, but he still wanted to sign autographs!! :D

Yeah annoying deffidently, however his shining moment (and I must say the movie captured this scene really well) was when ron's wand backfired and enchanted himself. That was pretty funny considering that was the only successfull attempt at comedy in all of the three movies.

LOL!!! I know!!! They reeeeally need to add some more humor into those movies. Well, the part where Hermione decks Draco is pretty funny too!!

Now, i'm a fair guy and the whole "girl power" thing, but was so not into that one seen. Only because they made Malfoy seem more of a pansey than he really was. Running away holding his nose, what a baby. I'd give him something to run away from.

LOL! We know YOU would!!! I think it's funny when Draco looks like a pansey!! Go girl power!! :P

Now don't get over your head now. Remember, we know Malfoy will soon become Harry's match toward the end of the book, we wouldn't want him holding old grudges now would we. (remeber the movie :ph43r: )

yeah, yeah, I know!! But it WAS funny, you have to admit. Yeah, Malfoy will be powerful, and there doesn't need to be any grudges. The thing is though, there already IS a grudge; Malfoy hates Harry just for being. . . Harry.

Not true, Malfoy hates harry for the countless times harry has embarrassed him, but like SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd said, were straying off topic. However lockhart would be so not cool. It would just mean that even though Voldemort didn't kill harry, or ginny he still got away with a murder. And that woulnd't be good. And besides it's not christian like to wish evil unto othersno matter how evil or in this case annoying. Like for example thats umbridge thread outside <_< . I'm not saying she's a nice character, but like i said, I diverge

Yeah, it's not, but I REALLY don't like Umbridge!!! Okay, now back to the topic. . . Lockhart is a sleezy man with no sense of honor whatsoever!! I mean, he gets people to tell him these REEEALLY heroic stories (that are true, of course), then he CURSES them and sells off the stories as his own!!! How absolutely dreadfull!!

Yeah but who isn't. I mean he's human right, if your critisizing him from being just that, who isn't. Many good people in the world, got their by cheating. The ends don't justify the means, but have any of you been perfect enough to point out his mistakes. "don't judge others, unless you can take the same judgement."

Yeah, I hear you. Lots of people just don't think of things like that, though, even though it DOES happen all the time. JK Rowling makes him sound like this big, handsome hero at the beginning. . . but then we find out his true colors. I have to say, that was a brilliant move. :)

Now that was beautiful, not very many people (including me) can look at the irony in a book and say that it was brilliant. My L.A. teacher would like you very much.

i think he is soooo soooo annoying but i did think he was kind of amusing when he lost his memory. but he is mostly annoying!!!

Yeah, when he lost his memory he was hilarious!! :lol: But yeah, for about 97% of the time, Lockhart was just plain annoying.

do y'all think he's ever gonna get his memory back? don't remember if they said for sure in the books. and if he does, will it change him? or would he be just as annoying? do you think we'll ever hear from him again at all?

It would be funny if he did get his memory back, he'd be in alot of trouble, I'd say, for stealing all those peoples stories. I think he'd probably be just as annoying, but not as arrogant because he would know no-one liked him anymore.

Professor i totally agree with u he was really annoying.

I think that lockheart is totally annoying!! Giving harry advise on how to be famous, telling everyone he knew where the chamber of secrets was all along....thats just dumb (but it was funny when he got busted for that!! :P ) And then when he's like "I'm flying!! Its like magic!!" or something like that in the movie..hee hee.. he's kinda funny, but only when his memory charm backfires. Otherwise he's just plain annoying.

i cant stand talking to people who are egotistical maniacs. they are so, i dont know, but if i had been there, maybe it wouldnt have been so bad in the beginning, because everyone thought he was the perfect celebrity, the best looking, but he wasnt in the end.

Yeah, he tricked them all into thinking he was some sort of good-looking hero. But if you were defeating powerful creatures, you'd think he might have had some scars of marks from them. Kind of like moody does, exsept he was defeating wizards instead of creatures. But anyway, in the end they all knew lockheart was just a phoney taking credit for what other wizards did.

I definitely thought that Lockhart was annoying throughout the book. The only part that I thought that he was funny was after he lost his memory. Especially in the movie, the actor who portrayed him did an awesome job making him amusing after he lost his memory.

From the very beggining, i thought lockheart was so full of himself. He acted like he was the most enportant person on the earth. But then in the end, i also think the actor did a great job of makeing him amusing.
