Title: New Defense against the Dark Arts teacher
Description: who could it be?
SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - February 18, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
that's another thing we're probably all wondering:
Who will teach DADA this year?
i came across this pattern....
Year 1 = Evil DaDa {Quirrell}
Year 2 = Clueless DaDa {Lockhart}
Year 3 = Competent/Cool DaDa {Lupin}
Year 4 = Evil DaDa {Fake Moody -- Barty Jr.}
Year 5 = Clueless Dada {Umbridge}
Year 6 = Competent/Cool DaDa {???}
Year 7 = Evil DaDa {???}
any chance this pattern will continue?
another thing:
correct me if i'm wrong,but i believe each time the DaDa teacher was a new character. we didn't know lockhart till cos, we didn't know lupin till we met him on the train in PoA, and so on.
so is this years DaDa teacher another new character? it would make sense! plus, didn't Jk say something about a new character named McClaggan? sure, that doesn't mean he's the teacher.
how about dumbledore's brother aberforth? sure, we've read about him before, but he's always in the background and my feeling is that JK made them brothers for a reason.
anyone think it could be dumbledore himself? who else comes to mind? will snape finally get the position?
and then there's that quote from book 6 JK let us take a peek at behind her door:
| QUOTE |
| (He) looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp. |
the first time i read this i immediatly thought of the DaDa teacher. it just feels right to me. so i believe it's gonna be a new character :D
someone from the Order is another good option to me.
i think i would like snape to get the job finally, too. sure, he's not the nicest teacher out there :P , but he's gota be one of the best in DaDa!
guess i'll leave it at that for now :)

My friend thinks Tonks should be the new DADA teacher

I think that Tonks might be the teacher to. She would kind of fit into your pattern (although she wouldnt be a brand new character.) I'm pretty sure she'd be a Competent/Cool DaDa.
Phoenix - February 19, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
ooh i like the theory bout the description in the excerpt being the new dada teacher!
i didnt think of that i was thinkin of snape finally gettin his wish although im having second thoughts about that now after reading about the whole 'anonymous until they teach' thing. your completely right of course. we never heard of any of them until they appeared as the new dada teacher!
Professor Rogue - February 20, 2005 03:02 AM (GMT)
Tonks never even crossed my mind, but that's a good guess! I hope it's not another new character, nothing against it, but it would be nice if the new DADA teacher was someone we already know.
I've never heard anything about a charactger named McClaggan, but you're probably right. Will there ever be a teacher that actually, I dunno, STAYS the teacher instead of quitting after the year?
Coldfire - February 20, 2005 03:53 AM (GMT)
I don't know if JK WANTS to have the same character as DADA teacher every year. . . though I couldn't really tell you why. . . maybe to keep us guessing? I dunno. But anyways, I agree that the character described in the quote of Rogue's (I also quoted that somewhere, but can't remember where) COULD very well be the new DADA. It would be kinda cool too to have the DADA someone we already know! But prolly not.
Phoenix - February 20, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
im not stupid or ignorant enough to guess the workings of JK's mind and her reasons for a new dada teacher every year. but the new dada teacher has had a major involvement in the plot every year the fact we know nothing about them is a bonus that can be manipulated if you get me

I think that Lupin should teach again, but I don't think he will. Moody won't want to, since he was locked in a trunk for most of the year, Quirrel, well, he was with 'you know who' the whole time, Lockheart is pretty much insane, and umbridge probably wouldn't come back for the world, even to get revenge, well thats the end of the line for past teachers, so I think it will definatly be someone new. I wonder what other kind of character jk rowling will think up next. Another teacher harry hates, or likes? I wonder.... I really don't think that it will be professer Snape, I mean dumbledor has rejected the offer for years, I don't think he's about to let Snape have the job just yet. Maybe the ministry will put someone in again, but I doubt it, I don't think they will mess with hogwart for a while. Well I have no idea, I think we'll be in for a sweet surprize when jk Rowling's sixth book comes out, I think we will all be surprized, of the teacher she chooses to invent this time. We'll only find out when her new book is published and ready for sale.

You betcha! Which is too long to wait for me!! ;)
BarbieGirl - February 21, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
I know this is a bit off-topic, but I think there is a reason why Dumbledore wont give Snape the DADA job, maybe something to do with Snapes involvement with Voldermort or something?
mj - February 21, 2005 12:02 PM (GMT)
Tonks cool that would be so cool but i dont think itll happen. :D :P B) B)
Phoenix - February 21, 2005 07:51 PM (GMT)
was snape at hogwarts when voldie was in full swing?
cos then i'd deffo think JK has something behind not giving him the job.
but if he hasnt been there that long then id say he might have a chance
since hes now the 'inside source' if you will, for the order
:blink:
CheerTwisters13 - February 22, 2005 04:48 PM (GMT)
I don;t really know who the new DADA teacher will be... but I think Tonks is a great guess! She would be perfect for the job... or maybe even the REAL Moody...
SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - March 18, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
like i said in my first post: i would like it if snape would get the job this year! a new character can be the potions teacher B)
true that DD hasn't given in so far but maybe he realizes that with the luck they've had with the last dada teachers that it's time to put someone in there that knows what he's doing. and who better than snape? if anyone would know, it would be him!
Snape for DADA!!!
mwiley - April 1, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
I wish lupin would come back and teach, but the warewolf think, i don't think will work out. Maybe snape will get the job, but i think dumbledore won't let him have it for a reason...we'll find out in the seventh book i guesse. I wonder who it will be this time, i hate waiting for the new book! <_< Oh well when it comes out, you won't catch me with my nose out of it!! :lol:
cartoonangel79 - April 24, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
I think I agree with the first poster in that the new DADA professor will probably be a new character as par with JK's pattern. However, the other pattern of the Evil, Clueless, Competent/Cool doesn't quite resonate. Umbridge wasn't clueless she clearly had a lot of knowledge and probably could hold her own in a fight (if she hadn't gone nutters). She was more like evil. I'm upset that we finally got a female DADA prof and she was evil. Oh well.
:P :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :P
Coldfire - April 24, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
Well maybe next year there'll be a female DADA teacher that isn't evil.... We can only hope! :D
cartoonangel79 - April 24, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
Why the heck not? We know he can fight. Also, I think even though JK makes the books so black and white (Slytherin= bad, Gryffindor= good) Snape is her attempt at showing that the world in the books, like the real world isn't always as it seems. The other houses need to give Slytherin a chance and Slytherin in turn needs to open itself up and take some hints from the other houses.
Although Slytherin isn't the only bad house if you catch my drift ;) .
flounder21 - April 26, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
well....i dont think snape should get the position. its almost like a tradition for him to not get the jo. and maybe theres a reason y dumbledore wouldnt giv him the job.
it would be kewl to c tonks as the DADA teacher. but i cant imagine her as a teacher.
sooooooo.... i think that it will be som1 new again this year!!!
Professor Rogue - April 27, 2005 06:43 AM (GMT)
Yeah I agree. Every year Snape tries out and never get's it. I think I'd be disappointed if he actually got what he wanted. Maybe why Dumbledore won't give him the job is because he's afraid that it will be too tempting of Snape to go back to the dark side. Just a thought ..
I kind of hope that it's not a new character. . . .use Tonks or someone we already know.
SiRiUsLyAdDiCtEd - April 27, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
but...but....snape's the best for the job!! granted, he might be a bit mean to his students at times :P , but besides DD (or a new character), he's defenitly the most qualified and would actually make sure students are learning and are prepared! i don't know why DD won't give him the job but i'm so hoping to find out in this coming book. i don't like the reason that it's sort of a tradition for him to be turned down for the job (sorry :ph43r: ). i would acctually like it if that "tradition" finally ended! (obviously :P )
i really like tonks, too. i also believe she was introduced for a reason, and so far she hasn't done too much yet, so a teacher's position seems possible. but can't you just see the whole class being totally distracted by her clumsyness? :lol: "oops, sorry neville :blush: , i meant to hit the creature" :P
Professor Rogue - June 20, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
(I've attached a poll!)
I'm trying to find it now but there was a short passage that was released from Book 6 and they described this new character that was described as the Lion Man. Name was somethiing like McClad or something, that's wrong but does anyone know who I'm talking about?
Anyways, I think this new character might be the new teacher. Anyone else?
