Title: JKR POLL
Description: ^Q & A
afigirlafi - March 11, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
well on JKR's offical web site she had a poll for theses questions that we would want ansewred and here are the % and here is the winnerr:
1.what happens to the secret when a secret-keeper dies?
JKR: I was suprised this question won becasue it is not the one i would have voted for.. but hey, if this is wht you wan tto know this is wha you want to know! when the secret-keeper dies the secert dies with them, or to put it in another way, the status of the secret would reamin as it was at their moment of death. everybody in whom they confined, will continue to know the hidden information but, no one else. just in case if you forgoten how the fidelius charms work it is : an immensly complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single living soul. the information inside is hidden by the chosen person or, secret-keeper and its hencefoth impossible to find--unless, of course, the secret keeper choses to divulge it (HP POA). in other word the secert (eg. the location of the family in hiding, like the potters) is enchanted so it is protected by a single keeper. in our example, peter pettigrew (a.k.a wormtail). thenceforce nobody else- not even the subject of the secret itself-- can divulge the secret. even if one of the pooters has been caputred, forced fed veritaserum or placed under the imperious curse they would not be able to give away the whereabouts of the other two.the only person who ever knewtheir precise location were these whom wormtail told directly but none of them would be able to paass on the information.
also, she hass justed finished 4 chappies of the 7th book! horray! :jaydance:  :hyper:

[COLOR=orange]oooh thanks for posting this. And this sounds interesting. But I'm wondering what were the other questions that people got to vote for? I'm with JK, I don't think I would have voted for this one as well.
But I'm glad she explained that, it was a question that I was dying to know but it did cross my mind. So Peter Pettigrew was the Potters secret keeper and he told Voldy where they were?
Do you think that Dumbledore was a secret keeper for someone? He had so so so many secrets.

Well as I was reading what JK said, all that was floating in my head was Dumbledore, Dumbledore. That would explain why he held back so much information at times.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking too. He's bound to have been a secret keeper for at least several people, because they knew they could trust him with their very lives and the lives of their loved ones.
afigirlafi - March 11, 2006 12:46 PM (GMT)
oh! i get it sorry ddidn't see connection but i'm not that sure because hadn't he told harry somesecrets and harry was able to tell ron and herminoe unless those weren't secrets...
Sardine - March 12, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
This is really interesting!!!
Im wondering now, what if Dumbledore was a Secret-Keeper for Snape,to keep his status as a Spy concealed...
afigirlafi - March 13, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
but everyone else knew so i dom't really think it would work but i see your way og thinking that.
Sardine - March 13, 2006 02:05 PM (GMT)
True...But didnt Dumbledore tell Harry,Ron and Hermione in the Order of the Pheonix?
afigirlafi - March 13, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
no but, wait who told them again? umm was it sirius or remouse or did dd. but anywho it still matters cuz if dd tells them how could they pass it on to haryy and ron and hermione they coulnd't so he couldn't be the secret keeper
Sardine - March 13, 2006 05:18 PM (GMT)
No,i mean that he told Harry,Ron and Hermione in person. So that they wouldnt go mad and kill Snape or something.
afigirlafi - March 13, 2006 06:54 PM (GMT)
opsp yeah didn't see that sorry. but yeah adds more mystery to the books dosn't it..
Dusty Dorsy - March 14, 2006 04:14 PM (GMT)
For harry to get into the Order he had to read a piece of parchment that was from Dumbledore.
Also Harry might go after Snape anyways because Snape killed Dumbledore not Draco all though it was draco that was susposed to kill Dumbledore. And Harry saw snape kill Dumbledore.

Ginny_potter - April 9, 2006 05:03 PM (GMT)
I seem to remeber that DD was secret keeper to the Order of the Phenix? i am right please correct me if im not ^_^
Rayne Lupin - May 2, 2006 07:44 PM (GMT)
Yeah he was but once he 'died' (though he didn't, really) it prolly was broken. Unless thats how we find out that he's NOT dead in the 7th book...... cause he's DEFINETELY not.
marywyman - August 1, 2006 11:31 PM (GMT)
 I had been wondering about whether Dumbledore was a secret keeper for Severus Snape, but I really don't think it was a secret about him being a spy, although it could have been. In book 4 Harry falls into the court room right by Dumbledore and Dumbledore tells a whole room full of people that Snape was a deatheater, but that he had turned spy before Voldemorts' downfall. In book 5 Snape himself tells Harry that his job is to indeed spy on the deatheaters, when he is trying to teach Harry how to do Legilimens. I think we will be enlightened by book 7 as to Snapes' and Dumbledores' true secret.

Sorry Lupin, but I think JK Rowling herself said in one of her meetings that "dumbledore will not do a gandalf" in other words he will not come back.
Dumbledore had so many secrets, and he most likely was the secret keeper for so many people.
So, this would cause a big problem...for example, someone new will now have to become secret keeper for grimmauld place....if Harry still wishes to offer his/the house to the order.
I wonder if this falls to the owner of the house. Dumbledore had to ask Serius first if he could have it...(Sirius actually offered him the house I think)
Sirius was the owner and after he had died even Dumbledore wasn't sure if the house was that safe anymore, so this strongly makes me believe that harry would be the next in line to become secret keeper of grimmauld place.
(He should better get his will in order, else it will fall to bellatrix next.)
What do you think
regards,
RNCybergate

{You do realise you dont need to post your name at the end of each post, right?}
Dumbledore is truly dead.
I dont think Harry will become Secret Keeper for anyone or anything; it's too dangerous. Hasnt #12 been cleared of everything Order-related? I think they'll find a new, better place for Headquarters.
nikhil - October 22, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
then the head quarters will be shifted to hogsmeade inn.
it says in poa(in train) hermione says -'Insites of Historical Sorcery it says the inn was the Headquarters for 1612 goblin rebellion'
I know dd himself said it isnt a great place for keeping secrets but i am just telling whats written in the book, besides its aberforths place , also it says it was already once used as headquarters.
but i still think that the headquarters is still #12
and jk said that the secret dies with secretkeeper, so no ones a secretkeeper
or they'll have to do charm all over(which i think they wont).
