Title: What we need.

Victorthebattousai - February 24, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
Apparently I don't have permission to start a topic in the forum announcements, though seeing as to how long I've been here, I should =/ So here's my thoughts on what's going on with our site.

Ok, how many of you chat on other Video game related sites? I'm going to use some examples here.

The reason our forum can't pick up fame has nothing to do with advertising, looks, administration, or anything else. The reason is that the only thing we have to keep people here is the general chat. No one likes to chat about DoA, not even us. And why is that? Because there isn't much to talk about.

Let's look at other game forums, shall we? First, a Final Fantasy forums. These forums last for ages, because there are soooo many topics. You can chat about the 12 different games, each game has characters, stories, graphics, gameplay, and a hundred other things, that people always love to chat about. They have soundtracks, which everyone loves to uploadf and whatnot. Fanart, that you can find on the net in truckloads. And, of course, there is information released about the next big FF.

Next, I give you Halo. These sites do wonderfully, for many of the same reasons, but they also have huge advantages in other areas. The halo story has lots to debate about, such as t he history of the forerunners, the novels, what the chief meant when he said yaddqa yadda yadda, and so on.

That in itself can make the forum last for ages. But they have another thing that propels it farther. Clan activity. Online activity. People love to chat with others about their biggest games. They love to set up games for their buddies, and they love starting their clan, and working togethor.

What does DoA have? No story, the characters, which I love, have little to talk about. No online play hardly, and no new info on the next game. There's nothing to talk about! At least in other fighting game forums, they can chat about movelists, and how they like to set up their chars appearance. Nothing like that here.

So, is everyone following me? Because what I suggest next is big.

What I think we should do, is change our format. Add two or so more games to the site to talk about, and having at least one of them a Clan favorite, something we will go online and play together, and that othetr people will enjoy. For instance, tho not necessarily this, Halo 3. If we pull in gamers from other games, not only will we get more people in here, a more lively community, but also, many players that play these other games, will play DoA too. Which means, we will be reviving the DoA forums as well.

I think this is the exact thing our forum needs. If we direct the forums basis on multiple games, or even, direct the basis to the clan's activity, then we will get a big change, I think.

What we're doing now, changing the look, is the same thing as painting the door to your garage as the rest of your home goes down in flames. It's utterly pointless, if the subject matter is the same. =) It's like taking an old video hgame and merely giving it some better graphics.

What do you guys think?

Victorthebattousai - February 24, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
Heck, even an ANIMORPHS forum has more to talk about. Literally, I'm hooked up on one, they talk more than we do.

Koi Kitsune2006 - February 24, 2008 08:29 PM (GMT)
I have to agree with you a lot on that. It's really not our fault that the doa games don't express their story lines like other games do. Maximum of dialog is about a mere 2-3 sentences long and that is it for all cut scenes.

l33t_ninja_thug - February 24, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
and since DOA has taken a backseat to NG, DOA 4 bringing more questions than answers, and still no DOA:CC even tho it was announced 2 freaking years ago; yea, DOA is below the radar.

maybe after the the 961 NG games are done being made, the next DOA will be made >.>

Dan - February 24, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
I agree with you but in that order. Changing this site to a forum with a different focus can do some good, im thinking a video game forum possibly, thast the only thing i can think of.

A multi based forum?

Victorthebattousai - February 25, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
Right, multi based, something like that. It's just not going to cut it, DoA alone, I think.

blueboy - February 25, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)
yes, doa alone won't cut it here.

Koi Kitsune2006 - February 25, 2008 03:31 AM (GMT)
That's gonna take alot of work. That means revamping the entire forum basically. But... I believe it can stay as Kunoichi, even though there isn't many females in here. *sarcasm*

I'll think of something. I have work all damn week. But I will be on for a few hours of the night. We're talking Eastern GMT time.

Victorthebattousai - February 25, 2008 07:32 AM (GMT)
I don't tghink it would take a whole lot, just up to what we wanna do. If we simple add a few more games to the site, IE Halo, FF, DBZ, whatever(Not DBZ, just an example) We wouldn't hve to do much but Make a few more Topics. Put all DoA topic under one thing, and so and so forth. Of course, We might have to get a new banner. And back to darkwer colors. This blue stufff is aweful.

I'm going to start my own forum on Invision free soon, I think, I'm going to use it for my clan(no members yet, it's a work in progress =)). But it will be multi based, probably Halo, FF, and one other. The main purpose will be for a Halo clan.

That was off topic.

Dark kunoichi - February 25, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
I agree, that would be nice.

And it's not that hard, all we have to do is adding some forums about other videogames.

Koi Kitsune2006 - February 26, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
No, not a forum based on a selective amount of games. A forum that focuses on games as a whole. Guess it's time for an upgrade. I will do this all when I have off from work. I am beat, my brain is in riddles. I've been out all day today... -_-;;;

Victorthebattousai - February 26, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
I don't think a simple video game forum is going to work, either. Already tons of them around. Might work, but IDK.

blueboy - February 26, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
it can work. easy accessibility for others, so it could work out.

Victorthebattousai - February 26, 2008 05:21 AM (GMT)
We already have a place for video games, and it's about as active as a rock. The thing is, we need something different to get people here. If someone looks at the site, and sees that it's just another gaming site, nothing happens. Everyone's already seen these sorts of sites.

Koi Kitsune2006 - February 26, 2008 05:29 AM (GMT)
We need to be original here. This is gonna be a bitch. Better start using the Taurus in me and bring out a master plan out my ass.

Victorthebattousai - February 26, 2008 05:40 AM (GMT)
What the......?

Ewkay......

As I said, simply a forum based on gaming in general isn't going to cut it, unless we already have lots of people, so there are many topics. You can either please some of the people all of the time, or all the people some of the time. Except online, if they aren't happy all the time, they don't come back. Something has to be interesting about the place, so that when people come, they say "Oooh, that's awesome!". And I'm not talking about a look.

The forums I've gone on always have something going on. The Lunar forum I used to frequent(haven't been on because I forgot about it until 30 secs ago =D) has been big for 10 years.

10.

And that's a game series that hasn't had anything decent since 02'. But they talked about the game, the series, which was their fave, they had contests, fan art, fave chars, soundtracks, they had it all.

I still think we need to pick a couple games, which we like and have a big fanbase, but at the same time, aren't overused. Shadow of the Collossus, Zone of the EndersStar ocean, Xenosaga. These are just suggestions, not all would work. But the thing that gets people into a forum is activity, and things to talk about. If you have a basis, like a certain game, then when people go looking for it, they find you.

it's kinda centered around doa's spectrum still.

Victorthebattousai - February 26, 2008 06:00 AM (GMT)
I'm talking about the genral chat's video games topic. I mean, we could talk about games there. We just don't.

blueboy - February 26, 2008 06:27 AM (GMT)
not enough activity between users i guess.

Dan - February 26, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
I think that narrowing our choices to a select few games is not good, open it for the abroad so as many people can come in here.

Victorthebattousai - February 26, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
But then it's like going to a all you can eat buffet. You have a lot to choose from, but none of it's that great =/

MegaAnthony - February 26, 2008 06:44 PM (GMT)
Ok.I'm a member of DOA Central also.Several people here are(Smiley Cobra,Blueboy,Skatan Milla etc.).What we need to do is maybe find all the key elements of what made central popular and unique, and add our own style, something that DOAC just can't offer.Advertising would be helpful and maybe, just maybe, have a 'mole' from these forums to pretend to be a dedicated member of the other site.I've already got an account but go on rarely as I've got more mates here than I do there. If you guys consider my mole option, although it does sound a bit silly,I'd gladly volenteer.

Victorthebattousai - February 27, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
Uhm, I don't think a spy would help that much lol. Advertising is definately a must, but a solid plan on what the forums should be is also necessary, but it needs to be a plan accdepted by the ENTIRE forum, not just a couple of us. If all of us are happy with what it becomes, then we will know that the people we want to get in here will be happy with it too. You want broad appeal, but not so broad as that your forum becomes like so many with nothing but flame wars and morons.

Koi Kitsune2006 - February 27, 2008 04:54 AM (GMT)
Honestly, forums are the internets main source of drama. Which is a prime fact. It is very difficult to maintain forum disputes, drama, bullshit, and personal grudges. Take it from me, I should know all of this.

What I am gonna do as in revamping this forum is come up with a concept. I don't want all these threads going to waste so basically, I'm gonna have to move forums to different categories and add newer categories for different forums. Which is going to take a lot of work.

As in avoiding a, "All you can eat buffet" as Victor stated, we're going to have to pick a majority of game series, implement their own forums for discussion and then some. I have personally thought about Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, Resident Evil (RE5 which is coming out), Devil May Cry, Shadow of the Colossus, Half-Life 2, etc.

So, give me some more of your on going idea's.

MegaAnthony - February 27, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
I understand about adding Fatal Frame into da mix as it is also a Tecmo game as for the others,It just wouldn't be Tecmo orientated anymore.Thats what the forums where made for.I believe we really have to talk to Ayane about this,I'm pretty sure he's aware of this but we really need his help.Anyway, keep comin' with the good ideas guys!

Dan - February 27, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
We are good without his help, but i think a more varitey set of games, like creating genre sections could work, but making this site just tecmo forum is not going to take it anywhere

MegaAnthony - February 27, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
So u might as well change it's name then!

Koi Kitsune2006 - February 28, 2008 12:24 AM (GMT)
Remove DOA and keep Kunoichi.

blueboy - February 29, 2008 01:00 AM (GMT)
some useful info at its best. hope it helps.

Victorthebattousai - March 1, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
A rick roll website? Do we DARE?

ChainedSniper - March 1, 2008 10:21 AM (GMT)
how about we spread it into sections like

Nintendo (Wii games)

Microsoft (Xbox 360)

Sony(Playstation 3) (which i hate right now lol)

and something like

Multi platforum

????

i mean its just a thought, then have a moderator for each one, instead of the whole forum or something, and this way, we dont remove any DOA, its broad, but its not like talk about any random game, instead of just

VIDEO GAMES

then each topic is just something random game like our current one

PLUS one thing is that i think is of importance, is more involvement of long time members not saying some havent,(i need too lol, i kindaa forgot aboutt this place again till i checked my bookmarks :/) but newer members that we get join cuz of DOA, its not a bad thing,BUT since they are shy (more than likely) they wont be as open to write in the (general disscussion forum) they will want to post about doa, anything, hell i really dont even bother with it, its just a useless post kinda, the older memebers have gotten to know each other well, and when they talk, sometimes newer members have no clue whats going on

this is just my take, but we can change it into more videogames btw doing halo and FF might not be the greatest long deal project, i think halo3 is the last of the HALOS maybe some spinoffs like halo wars, and i think FF13 is the last one as well if im not mistaken, who knows lol
anyways off topic, even if we change the forum etc and advertise, get newer members, we will need ACTIVE topics

kinda long :/ sry iiget into rants lol and if any of my info is incorrect im srry, its been like a couple off weeks :p

l33t_ninja_thug - March 1, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
add a PC section to that list too. and don't forget the current gen systems too. PS2 still has new games coming to it. and i aint sure how anyone is scared of posting in general discussion, since its premise is to be about anything (that doesnt break the rules).

dude's ghosted the place. every contact made with him since has been fruitless. and yea, his last activity was kinda recent... but i heard that was like a pop in. dunno what to make of it yet

I don't think a simple video game forum is going to work, either. Already tons of them around. Might work, but IDK.

im surprised no one replied to this or made mention to this. make other media into their own forums. tv, movies, and music are three easy mediums. im a bit skeptical on the latter two since our track records on them is bad. movies barely get action and music hardly responsive compared to other threads.
this is the only serious active audio thread; 3 total active threads in 08, 1 in 07, and i didn't even look at the 06 ones since my point is made.

we did used to do contests. but that was done during Ayane's time. and that had stopped. could be restarted tho. fan art is something already done (too bad some of our no-longer-here-members aren't here. alot were great.) can we do soundtracks, beyond talking about songs?

I can add stuff. What do you guys think so far?

l33t_ninja_thug - March 2, 2008 04:14 AM (GMT)
maybe fuse 'News & Updates' and 'Rules' together. maybe its me; i see the forum topic list like an outline (each category has 2+ things in it). probably can name it 'important forum stuff' or something (cant think of a good name right now :argh:

Koi Kitsune2006 - March 2, 2008 05:15 AM (GMT)
I'm just working on a more compact lay out. Because this forum has a confusing amount of sub forums and categories. That is why back in 04, 05 alot of people kept on starting threads in the wrong forums. Because they didn't know where the fuck to put their threads. I gotta fix that.

Multimedia is perfect since it covers forums like fan fiction, movies, etc. Because those don't really belong in General Discussion when indeed it needs its own category.

And as a console category and VG category, I believe I should add Misc. Games as when someone wants to talk about a different game rather then the ones we choose. Also Misc. Consoles if anyone wants to go way back to the stone age and talk about the The Fair Child Channel F Console.

l33t_ninja_thug - March 2, 2008 05:20 AM (GMT)
sounds good to me. im happy (dont take much, but still..)
