Title: Target and Goals

Kuro-San - January 21, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
Even though I have been here for a short time, trust me, I am not a new member. I still can't believe none of you figured out who I really am yet. I thought my name would've gave it away. But hell, that's the past. Has nothing to do with today. So lets get right on Topic and get this underway. Doak needs an extreme makeover. Now, I'll put in my own input.

Fansite?

The trouble about this forum is, everyone believes this forum to be a fansite. Well, it is. But regardless of what site may carry the DOA name, giving content beyond content, etc is already a Fansite. No matter where you go, if you see a website made by someone, its a fan site. Doesn't matter what the site contains, it is a fan site. The problem here is that, this forum, is strictly a fansite. People on the internet likes content so they feel involved with the community. Having just a forum with a pretty CSS skin, photoshopped buttons, endless gifs, and a nice banner isn't gonna shout out, "REGISTER NOW!". If no one sees the forum busy, then why stay here?

So how do you exactly attract more people again? Because you and I already know back in 04', this forum was fun. We'd come on everyday talking about DOA, just mingling amongst each other regardless. Now, it's 08 and only the regulars come here. I don't see Doatec come here anymore, or even the creator Shin Asura. He may drop in now and then, but that is it. So what happened to everybody? Well, people change, people move on, and thats that. Even Talim JP is not even here anymore. That is a huge wtf.

Things we gotta do

Simple. I don't know if this forum still has a website. If you do or don't, make one. Forums do very well if there is a website. You don't need to be rich in order to have one either. Just find someone who knows HTML, PHP4 or 5, CSS script, and XML. Simply create a website with content. I'm not talking about a website where you can view pictures you can easily find on other websites. Genuine is key. So how is that?

Well, for most of you that can take pictures off your X-Box 360, you should do that. Having your own pictures taken and spiced up with Photoshop will do just the trick. So creativity is another key here.

Video

Believe it or not, Video is a very powerful advertising tool. Because of sites like Youtube, Google Video, Revver, Livevideo, Gametrailers, etc can drastically draw attention. All that needs to be done is this.

Pappi is an expert at Photoshop. All he needs to do is boot up Photoshop, make a fancy gif logo image for doak, and the video editors just needs to represent the logo on the bottom right side of the video with Opacity set to about 80% and there you go. You got AMV video's, Commentary video's, and the misc. Not those picture slideshow videos people here used to make with music right after that everyone begged Doatec to host. lol I can't believe I remember that. XD

Video's that you guys should edit are Tips and Tricks commentary, Music videos that contains gameplay or CG footage. That will deem to be fine by standards to draw attention to the forum and hopefully burst some noise in the forum again. But how do you go about doing all of this? Well, I am happy to explain. So lemme give 2 cents.

Programs that I highly recommend are Adobe Premier 1.5 or 2.0 Pro, Avid Xpress DV or Pro, Final Cut Pro HD (Macintosh Only unfortunately), and the cheapest of the bunch, Sony Vegas. Sony Vegas is what most of you should use as it is the most affordable piece of editing software out there. The programs I have listed are a good grand or over. Thats alot of paper to be made to impress. But this is only going out to the people here who are generally interested in the art of video.

So how do I put video to my computer? Which is mainly the common question people ask. Well first off, it's called Digitizing video. Through DV input Firewire, or Dazzle which you can read more information here.

My friend Cloud8745 on Youtube uses Dazzle for his walkthroughs he does from his consoles. So he can digitize his PS2 gameplay, X-Box, X-Box 360, etc straight from his consoles to his PC using Windows Movie Maker. Which is the program I don't recommend. Giving you no layer support in the timeline, I say its just garbage. So stick to Vegas if you can. Trust me.

The expensive way is to buy a small DV box. Which has the 3 stereo prongs on the back and front with In and Out. You can even hook up your VCR and record VHS tapes to your computer in avi. format if you wanted to.

So that pretty much covers the video aspect.

Artistic Work

When I think of Artwork, I think Blueboy. Because he knows how to draw. It would be great if he even had a Tablet. I don't know if he has one, if he does, sorry. But if you guys think of getting one, go to Newegg.com as they sell good tablets cheap. Instead of wasting around 150 bucks for one at Circuit city.

There is plenty of art places on the net. Flash and or just art work. Beginning off of course, there is Deviant art. Deviant art is a good place to start off. If anyone here besides Blueboy can draw, I'd say do it. Use the gif logo of doak, place it at the corner of the picture using photoshop, set Opacity to around 80% and make sure you apply the website or forum link. Which ever deems better at that point is really all up to you.

Newgrounds.com is mostly for flash artists and flash cartoons. Everyone knows the website. Even a newborn knows what Newgrounds is unless it was living in the dirt for 15 years. That joke made no sense. Moving on!

If anyone knows how to use Macromedia Flash 8, then boot up the sucker and make some flash cartoons, submit them, and hope to god they pass judgment in the portal. Remember that you can easily promote this site when you upload a flash cartoon. But remember however, flash cartoons is very difficult to make. I've tried it a few times. Not easy. I can't even make a stick figure movie cool.

That pretty much wraps up artwork, unless you all have your own idea's of art sites. Feel free to post, I'm not writing this all down for nothing you know. Nice to see we got that one understood. Next Topic.

Photoshop and Content

As I have already said before, content is very important. When a internet lurker hits your website, the next thing that person will do is browse. If he/she finds anything that interests and likes, of course he/she is going to want to find the forum board and register. No one is going to register unless there is something to be interested about.

As about Photoshop, this forum has no problems with. You all got that all under control. Just keep your photoshop skills up there, and you will defiantly succeed.

When the website is made, remember that it has to be updated whenever new content is made. Sections to the website like Videos, Artwork, character bios, back stories, game trilogy, etc will attract attention. So make sure that everyones work is put up for show.

And now I am tired from writing all this. Anyway, hope this all helps. This is the longer version of the post I made in the other topic Mills made with them arguing who is gonna be admin. Well, I have no control over that. Seems that some things will never change. I just hope that most of you will take some of the advice I have given, give it a shot, and see how far you get with the idea. Because remember, no matter where you go, Fan site's are everywhere regardless of content.

No thank you. I'm already busy with another forum.

Smiley Cobra - January 21, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Excellent write up Kuro! ^__^ Shame you're busy being admin at another forum, I think you would have been a great one... but ah well.

I haven't seen DOATEC or Shin around anywhere, but I HAVE seen Talim JP over at the official Soul Calibur forums.

Impressive writing
Im curious about a makeover, and especially for the main website. Who made that one anyway?

Ayane (Shin Asura) can't get online Im afraid. He's busy with other things. Everytime I get to talk with him, he's at work.

If I could get access to my Xbox, perhaps on the summer holiday, I'd really like to record videos, character endings, combo videos and stuff. And anything that has to do with Photoshop, Im up for it.

Now, lemme guess who you are.....
DarkFox? :ph43r:

Kuro means black in japanese. San also means Mister. But don't worry about it. I don't even go by the name DarkFox anymore. I usually now a days go by Koi Kitsune2006. Koi which means Love (or for some smart asses they say Carp), Kitsune which means Fox. So I never abandoned the Fox part of my name. But its only a name.

And lets put it this way. Its been 4 years now? So yeah, I've pretty much changed. Too much. lol

I'd rather prove I am alive then let other people think I'm dead. ;)

I'm glad you finally revealed yourself. Always knew u would sooner or later.... And as i predicted it was a great home-coming "welcome back," buddy.... ;).

Kuro-San - January 23, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
Its good to know that no one here has a personal grudge against me, which I am very relieved about. I'm glad we can keep the past, the past. As the past has nothing to do with today. Especially Mysterious Duelest and Silver Phoenix.

Dan - January 23, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Woah! Dude, hey, why hide your identity, good to finally "SEE" you again!

Kuro-San - January 23, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Ok, back on subject. I made this along time ago before DOA4 came out. I just recorded footage to my computer straight from my X-Box and made a short music video. BSU knew at the time that I always wanted to use Saliva: Always as the main theme. I also remember Shin Asura telling me he didn't like the song, since he liked J-Pop the best. But hey, I like music in general...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=89...855768487&hl=en

Keep in mind that this is very old. I made this sometime in 2005 probably. I can still do stuff like this, except, I don't have an X-Box 360 or an X-Box anymore. My X-Box broke. lol

So if you guys are interested in my Video Work, I can also provide my YouTube Channel where is right here.

http://youtube.com/KoiKitsune2006

I have 570+ Subscribers (Fans). I review old games, rant sometimes, and do skits. I'm pretty much the Nerd like the rest of them who bases jokes off of video games. Hope you enjoy my stuff if you take the time to look at my reviews.

Also note that my videos have swearing and adultish jokes not suitable for people under the age of 16.

Ah, u were 18 at that time. We at that age tend to be a quiet the rebels.(not to say we still aren't once in a while :P). Now that your a little older and wiser(as all of us here are) all bad things aside.. I personally think u;ve learned a heck of a lot since then and with this "feedback"(lol) u've given maybe we can see some new changes. ;)

Afraid to say i've totally lost all contact with Sliver and MD. Never see them on nowadays.

MAN your videos are always kick ass. Like em
as always. Lemme watch it a few more times before giving a detailed feedback.

I think that it's really not that big of a deal at all to the point where it's being turned all epic and stuff.

If you're back, you're back. The only real person that had a problem with you was Ibe, and he was a jackass himself.

Now, on topic, children.

If you guys need help in getting views and attention, let me know. You can make a video, send it to me, and I can spice it up some in Adobe Premier and basically put it on my channel so my subscribers can see it. With my rising popularity on youtube, I believe you can take alittle advantage over that.
