Title: Would this place wake up if it had a new admin?
Mills McDougle - January 12, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
janejana - January 13, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
maybe?
only if said new admin did a LOT to advertise this place, or could offer something tangible to draw people here. i think one reason this forum is so small is because it's basically 'a nice place where everyone likes DOA'. if someone is searching for something like pictures or gameplay information, frankly, other sites and forums will offer more. there is not a whole lot here that is unique, except the community.
also, hi guys!
blueboy - January 13, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
doubt it. the community here is the sole reason why i'm still here. i'm grateful to have met (online) peeps such as you mills and janejana.
when doa5 is abound, maybe this place'll pick up some steam. other than what we normally do here, all i see are "tumbleweeds" o.O
Xion - January 13, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
this place is more about the existing community than some place to find information or things of the like...this place is like a bar for us DOA Fans, and i dont think a new admin would make a bit of diference

See, that's just the thing. What existing community are we talking about? It's like 5 of us. And that BARELY includes me, because there's never anything new at this place, and it bores me to tears these days.
What exactly do we need to do to get this place back to the way Ibe had it before he went batshit?
I asked Pappi on Facebook if he could switch Xion and myself to Admin. Xion would make a lot better of a main admin here because he has way more pride for DoA than I do these days, but I'm already in power.
If we can get(rip?) admin powers from Ayane and Lei12, maybe something can be done to rejuvenate this place. At the very least, there would be active admins here to watch the place. As of right now, though, the only thing we really have power over is locking, moving, and deleting pr0n threads. :p
Hmm...
PS HI JANE!
Xion - January 14, 2008 01:27 AM (GMT)
i may not post much, but i do come here a few times every single day, i cant tell you how many of those porn bots ive removed XD
idk, its up to the community, perhaps most of the other members who used to be active found another forum they rather participate in, or there really is just nothing to talk about. new stuff does come out, like for NG2, and there are allways other random things to talk about in general discussions but no one seems interested. Ive tried doing something with the clan, maybe that would spark things but that went batshit aswell..
oh well, ill keep babysitting this place, Mommy and daddy (or mommy and mommy  ) seem to have forgotten they have children...
Mills McDougle - January 14, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
LMAO @ mommy and mommy
Well, Pappi hasn't responded yet. :p As expected. Maybe he's busy during the weekends...
Smiley Cobra - January 14, 2008 01:20 PM (GMT)
I'll let Pappi and Lei12 know about this when I see them on MSN.
blueboy - January 14, 2008 03:21 PM (GMT)
well if you guys need an extra admin, i'm up for it. i do watch over this place practically everyday regardless.

if we really need new Admin's, the current Senior Mods are here to take the position

hungry for power eh? ;)
Anyway new admins won't change anything. The only thing that will make this forum speed up is the release of new DOA or NG games.

If i was, wouldn't i be the one asking for admin status? -_-
dont Misconstrue
Dark kunoichi - January 14, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
I don't think a new admin would change anything. The fact is that there are no news here, no games, no interesting threads... This happens to all forums, one day or another they'll die.
And with no news from Tecmo or DOA 5 or whatelse, why staying here? :hmm:
In any case, I do watch this site everyday, hopping to find something about the new stuff from Itagaki.

i guess that's one of the downsides to community forums based on fighters.
@xion:
my bad, i meant to say mod, not admin. i wouldn't want to be admin anyways :heh heh:
Mills McDougle - January 14, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
Doffy, please don't turn this thread into a needless flame war.
If this place had admins that actually cared about the site fully(bsu was a definitive example), this place wouldn't be so damn dead. We go from having an admin who holds grudges against members and leaves for months on end to admins that are children who only care about the look of the forum. We were destined to die out.
And another thing. What our community fails to realize is that new games don't necessarily mean more traffic...well, they do, but they don't define it. Tekken Zaibatsu, DOA Central, Smash Boards, Shoryuken, those places are active 24-7, 365 days a year. That's one of our problems, I guess; we're attracting people with the wrong mind set.

it's lack of leadership. these places have them and we don't (essentially). i really don't know what else to say here......
Kuro-San - January 14, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
Being admin is easy. I am an admin of a very busy forum of 1,220 registered members and counting. My forum usually has 30-38-50 members on at the same time mostly. The only thing about being admin is, making things neat, compact, and easy on members so not many made threads needs moving. Overall, being an admin is easy but a pain in the ass as well.
janejana - January 14, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
just wondering...if some of our current mods became admins, what would you guys do to attract new members if they came?
one reason doacentral and tekken zaibatsu, etc., have constant traffic is that they offer in-depth game coverage -- something people actively search out. what is it that these forums offer to DOA fans that isn't already offered, with far greater depth, elsewhere? how would new admins deal with this particular issue?
that's what needs to be answered first if there's to be an increase in traffic, here.
Dan - January 16, 2008 12:32 AM (GMT)
I still come here on a regular basis but its sad to see that nothing is put up on the site, i agree that new leadership could turn this play around but its going to take more than adding an admin, there going to bee a plan to put this thing back up
Kuro-San - January 16, 2008 04:18 AM (GMT)
I only have one piece of advice for all of you.
1st things first, you guys should get back into making videos. Yes, gameplay videos, etc with commentary, hints, tricks, etc. Don't think this is copying off of Doa Central, cause really it ain't.
Video commentary, with a basic logo, and after video is finished, the website is labeled at the end, the description box has the link, should draw attention.
Using sites like Youtube, Google Video, Revver, Live Video, Kaltura, and Game Trailers helps. Youtube is mostly the most over populated video site on the net so basically, that is more worth the time there. Especially with Subscribers. (I have about 550+ subscribers because of my work alone.)
Deviant Art is also a nice place to get attention. Blue Boy and his artistic skills could draw massive attention if he cares enough, or if anyone does in that spectrum.
Flash work and Photoshop work, like this site is made up of most of the time is Photoshop hell, should also be implemented into drawing attention. Because just keeping to yourselves isn't going to do anything.
Like I've said. This may be a fan site, but should it only be a fan site? Why not get creative and rise something from the dead and begin new? So what have I said so far?
1) Make videos using Commentary. Teach moves, combos, maneuvers, tips & tricks, etc for every character. Help to stay alive online and so forth. Instead of doing videos that looks like a picture slide show. Thats not impressive. If anyone has a X-Box 360 with a Dazzle connector, there you go. Or if you have some sort of DV connection, then there you go again.
Use Adobe Premier or Final Cut Pro and you're fine. Windows Movie Maker is... Bleh. Only if you can deal with it.
2) If any of you can draw, thats a thumbs up. Just work on some kind of icon that represents what your drawing for, give a link, and just say, "More stuff like this can be found at... such and such our site".
3) And as for Photoshop, which is over used here and not much of anywhere else.... Show it off. No one is gonna find this forum easy unless you shove it in peoples faces. Go onto different sites, represent.
And that is all I have to say.

Wow thats not what I ment at all. I was joking. Lighten up. :dancebaby:
Btw after I have thought about it, a change of admins might not fully heal this community BUT it might fix it. If some of the people who visit this site VERY frequently become admin Im pretty sure there will be some improvement.
Also I think we need to reorganize the whole forum and add new sections/sub sections.
If we had a thread or something which explained how to record something from the xbox360 to the computer OR from the xbox360 to a digitalcam to a computer I would have no problem doing it at all.
Pappioll - January 16, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
Sorry that I havn't been online for very long.
When I (my parents) stopped me from playing Xbox anymore I have actually forgot about DOA. Sadly It's not on my mind. And it's the last season in school so Im very busy with homework. :(
I will try to go online more often. And, I will talk with Lei12 if we should add one or two more admins since it can be hard for me to go online much.
Kuro-San - January 17, 2008 12:40 AM (GMT)

deviantart gave me troubles in the past, hence why i've not gone with them. still, you make valid points kuro, and i don't mind helping out the community if needed.
if that's the kind of advertising everyone wants, just let me know how you want it presented.
vids would actually be a big help also. gives us an identity that can entice more users too.

Yeah, you have points there.
I've always been interested to make combo videos, story mode videos etc for DOA Kunoichi. I have asked Ayane for bringing the recording up again, but he's probably too busy.
If I had the possibility and the requirements for it I would definetly do it. But I can't now when my Xbox is gone (not forever hopefully).
Advertising DOAK through Photoshop graphics is a good idea. I will try as much as I can to do it.
I have talked with Lei12. And we've decided to add an admin. We haven't decided who, but stay tuned.

Yes we have talked it through and I think its best to have a new admin... Somebody who is here everyday and can make this place work :) ... But I don’t think an admin can change a lot here on this forum... This is a very fan based forum and we need the members to keep posting. SO, how can an admin help us with that?
I agree we could make some trailers with our DOA: Kunoichi logo on it and maybe we could join Daviant Art, I think its a great idea and that would really gets peoples attention and go into our site and also a lot of us can do Photoshop and stuff...
So keep posting and we can discuss it...

Through my experience really what makes a forum interesting is not only leadership, but the members who make up the community. It only takes 1 or a few spoil sports to ruin the bunch. Through my experience really one good success of a forum is COOLER HEADS prevail. When most of us were younger, i'm sure some of always had a habit of saying, "Man adults are so serious. Can't they take a joke?". Looking at it nowadays I wonder, how far is it from the truth. Personally I find older ppl more tolerant and gullible. Basically one way of saying it is never to turn something into an issue if there is another way or better yet turn it around so everybody can have a good laugh. Remember, things become an issue if you want it to be. Forums like this are people to share something in common or basically just "let loose". All of us have to admit at some point or another here there have been a number of unnecessary arguments and clashes reaching several pages long over unnecessary BS and as a result several members were banned or suspended, to be honest it made me laugh several times. (those who started and played along with it, you know who you are.) :angel_not: . Another way of improving the forum is to really make the new members more welcomed. Senior members can try to respond to their threads more often(that includes admins and mods.) so that they know their not being ignored. Of course if things really do step outta line leave baning as a LAST resort.
NOW, enough of my BS let's continue to have fun.... :D
