Yeah, this news is everywhere now. That's crazy. What's wild is that the DJs continued such a contest knowing that people could die from it, and blatantly didn't care. That's ridiculous.
Of course, the people in the contest had to have known, seeing how so many different people called in warning them of the risks.
It's incredibly sad. One forum that I go to thought it was funny. :p

I remember hearing about this on the Dawn And Drew show

i heard that the DJs kept cutting those calls off...so maybe the messages didn't get through to the people participating as clearly as they should have.
man but those DJs sound like assholes.

its your intake compared to your outtake. water puts in electrolytes and you expel them doing various things (running is a good example). she took in a huge amount, but didn't put out a lot. so she held all the excess electrolytes and it backlashed on her.

I'm pretty sure it's not the electrolytes that killed her, given that would be a toxicity danger, but rather, a ruptured bladder.
smiles2 - January 28, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
electrolytes? what are thoses...><

I beleive it was the lack of the electrolytes.
But i can not find the link....

Eh, here is a poor example.
Our body is full of salt( ) and we need the salt to survive but if you drink to much water where the entire salt is being disovled becase of the water, you die.
Luminous_Daybreak - January 28, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
@Dan and LNT: Oh, okay. It was lack of electrolytes, not too many electrolytes.
Whoops, sorry guys. Mea culpa.
@smiles: Your body has an optimal state, and that state requires an equilibrium of dissolved ions. (aka electrolytes) Since the amount of ions water doesn't change unless you add to it, if you only add water without the ions, the [ions] that were in your body goes down. So, since the woman drank water without electrolytes, her body failed to compensate, and she must've died of something to do with her neurological pathyways, I think.
D: Dan if you ever find the link, post it, please? Sorry again.

honestly, there should've been a different partake of the contest. drinking too much of any liquids can be dangerous on our bodies as a whole.
TomSchmo28 - January 28, 2007 06:14 PM (GMT)
thats the first time I heard of this, thats really sad tho =(
They shoulda realixed sumthin was wrong when her belly was getting bigger :hmm:

Whoever made up the contest is seriously stupid. Haven't enough fraternities and whatnot been jumped on about that >.> I know drinking common liquids LOOKS harmless but too much of anything is bad for your body. Before people make up contests like that they should...you know...look up possible effects and whatnot so death and lawsuits can be prevented.
