Title: BT47's DOAX Review

BT47 - April 24, 2004 12:57 AM (GMT)
- When I first got this game, I was pretty excited. It was probably the first X-Box game I got. Having it constantly post-poned (from a summer to a winter release) and checking out all the quick/unreleased preview pictures. The excitment/expectation got really big. Although when I played the game, I was somewhat dissapointed. This review may seem a bit harsh, but it's what I truly thought about it XD

---

- Gameplay: The way the game is set up was too simple and boring in my opinion. Everything was too orderly and very compact, although you were
'On vacation' you still had to do the same daily things over and over...and over until your vacation was over and select what actions you done through little windows -_- The volleyball game itself was pretty good, although the game does all the hard parts for you (like setting up serves/etc), the camera angles for it was horrible unless you set it on wide-sceen (even on that, it was still somewhat of a problem). The Casino was pretty good though, although it would've been nice to actually stop on the slot machines manually instead of the game doing it for you automatically, the idea of a Casino seemed almost 'put there to take up some space' for some reason =/ The game can literally last 30 minutes to finish. Tecmo/Team Ninja could've done better IMO, setting it up like an Action-RPG movement (directly controlling your character right then and there would've been nice)

- Graphics: Very nice, if not the best on X-Box has to give. Although there are some (extreamly) small errors (paper-like hair, no swing shadow, etc), it was good nonetheless. The details (such as sand, trees, bikini fabric) were flawless. The chicks looked awesome! The volleyball motion/action was smooth, and the animation was beautiful and natural!!! :D :D :D

- Music/Sound: The music score was ok, many of the tracks are kind of bland and boring after awhile. Having some rock or more (modern) reggae beats would've been nice to liven it up a bit. However, the custom tracks compensate for this. The girls voices are done extreamly well, the voice-acting was perfect! (except Zack's English voice by Rodman, it was too deep)

- Replay Value: Very low, it was the samething every single day except with the same or new girl. The only point of replaying it was to play as each girl in a new vacation. It was a vacation that keeps going on and on, the only thing good about re-playing it was to keep/collect your 'Bikini' collection for your girl. There's no real set goals (such as going against other girls in a mini-tournament')

----

- Overall Score: 6.0
- Tecmo had a really big publicity thing going on with this game, since many (if not all) expected a 'Fun in the Sun Beach' Game, we got more of a 'Screen Saver' game instead. This game is good if you have a party or friends over since it's visually appealing, but I wouldn't recommend it to a hardcore gamer. Unlike it's brothers and sisters (the original Dead or Alive fighting game and the badass release of Ninja Gaiden), this game doesn't live enough to their siblings standards. Although very visual appealing, it's still seeing 'Hot Chicks' do the same, repetetive thing over and over again while in a very 'enclosed' enviornment.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed as well. I remember hearing about certain features, like there was going to be a DOA3 game available at the casino, never happened

All in all, the game is pretty boring when you play volleyball, there isn't much you can do, and once you become familiar with the moves, the game gets old really fast. I don't really care to get new bikinis because I know how boring the game will be.

Maybe if they added more dimension to the game, people would like it more than they do.

Some of the casino games were fun though. I think the bedroom could've been done a little better, maybe show you walk in and sit down, maybe even showing you get undressed (behind something) and maybe even taking a shower (face shot).

The game felt a little rushed to me, even though it was delayed like it was.

I had fun with it but only for a short time. It's too bad though, I was really looking forward to this game, hopefully Team Ninja does a better job with the next Xtreme game, hopefully more depth will be added.

My overall score is 5/10 -_-

first lets give the game a 10/10.... cuz i really love the chiks in this game.... so ok lets deduct -2 for you not to fully roam around the island freely...... the day noon and night idea sucked.... hahaha

so the final score is 8/10.... you must be thinking that i forgot to mention the about volleyball game?? cmon... i wont deduct the score of the game due to the dissapointing volleyball gameplay.... cuz cmon lets face it none in the history of videogaming has perfected the VOLLEYBALL sim.... the ones they clain perfect has those annoying arrows and forcebars.... so i wouldnt call that SIM-PERFECT.... so thats it.... call me a fanboy or whatever i just love the GIRLS....

P.S. christie RULES!!!!! hahahaha

Now I really looked forward to getting this game. I enjoyed playing it but I was most disappointed with the manual. It seemed so rushed... Kasumi's character description was just two short lines, but in then DOA3 manual it's two whole paragraphs!!!

Also the wording in the manual was poor. :(

I too realy looked forward to this game. But was disappointed with about half of it. Mainly with the gameplay.

Gameplay: I agree with BT47 on this. I realy do wish I could have had more controll over the character I was using, which at that time was Kasumi. I mean, all You did was jump from one place to the next and engage in whatever. You couldn't walk over there in 2nd or 3rd person view and see the beach in all it's beauty. I felt like I was playing Dragon Seed's all over again.

Graphics: Again, I totally agree with BT47. The graphics were absolutely breath taking! I couldn't even take My eye's off of Kasumi's pure and absolute beauty. I had never seen Kasumi, or any of the girl's for that matter, like that.

Music: The music kinda sucked. I did not like the soundtrack at all realy. Only afew realy sparked My interest. It's a good thing I had a Chicago CD on hand. I tried My Killer Insinct CD but it didn't realy fit, if yah know what I mean. ^^

Replay Value: Hardly any realy. The only thing You could realy do to make the game last longer is:

Play Exhibition mode to become even better at it. Shouldn't take long. ^^

Get every Bikini for every girl. A long journy but it will keep You entertained.

Try to get all the girl's faces on the slot machine's. If You manage to get all three Tina's You get a little something. ^^

Overall Score: 5.5
The game's volleyball is better than anyother and the graphics are 2nd to none. The problem is that that's all it realy has going for it. You'll slowly feel as though the game was rushed and that not much more was put into it aside from the graphics and a little of the vollyball. Still, one must have all the DOA's to complete His/Her collection. Is that not right. ^^

I think I have to disagree with you lot! DOAXBV is possibly my most played game ever! I have racked up hour after hour of plesure from this! I must be honest and say that I was a tiny bit let down with the day set out. Maybe a sequel could fix that. But apart from that it's perfect! The girl's are hot and the volleyball is fast. Also customising the sound track to your own taste add's a certain feel to the atmosphere. I played it listening to Shakira and Chritina! Overall I rate it 94% but I guess the score depends on the persons taste! :D
