Girls attempt real-life version of video game
Residents alarmed; teens could be charged

Five teenage girls from Portage County face potential criminal charges after attempting to play a real-life version of Super Mario Bros.
The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit and Bomb Detection Unit were called in to downtown Ravenna on Friday morning after seventeen suspicious packages -- boxes wrapped in gold wrapping paper with question marks spray painted on them -- had alarmed residents.

Boxes were found at the Immaculate Conception Church on West Main Street, the Portage County Courthouse, Deluxe Pastries, the corner of Cherry Way and Main Street, Reed Memorial Library, Ravenna High School and a residence at Sanford and Main streets.
Five girls -- age 16 and 17 -- claimed responsibility for making and placing the packages. The girls said they found an Internet site that included step-by-step instructions for creating replicas of blocks featured in the game.

The Ravenna Police Department will be working with the Portage County Prosecutor's Office regarding possible criminal charges as a result of the game.

they later, 9 days later, found the girls not guilty
Girls won't be prosecuted after bomb squad called on art project

Charges will not be filed against six juvenile girls who placed brightly wrapped boxes at several locations in Ravenna on March 31, Portage County Prosecutor Victor V. Vigluicci said today.
The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit and Bomb Detection Unit were called to downtown Ravenna after numerous packages wrapped in gold paper with question marks sprayed on them were found.

``The girls were imitating an art project which they found on the Internet,'' the prosecutor said. ``None of the girls had any prior contacts with the police or juvenile court and are all good students.''
The prosecutor said all the girls and parents made statements to the police when they learned their actions brought out a response by law enforcement officials.

``I do not believe that they had any bad or malicious intentions,'' he said.
The girls ``were not thinking about the consequences of their actions in this day and age,'' he said.
The prosecutor said all of the girls will write letters of apology to each of the law enforcement agencies who responded to the suspicious packages.

Boxes were found at the Immaculate Conception Church on West Main Street, the Portage County Courthouse, Deluxe Pastries, the corner of Cherry Way and Main Street, Reed Memorial Library, Ravenna High School and a residence at Sanford and Main Streets.
The hazardous material and bomb units responded to the packages, Vigluicci said, ``exactly as they are trained to do and followed all of the protocols which have been adopted since Sept. 11 involving suspicious packages in public places.''

The boxes were made to resemble ``question boxes'' from the video game Mario Bros., the prosecutor said.

basicly, the site shows you how to make mario boxes and people sent in pictures of thier boxes, some even did coins and power-ups!
all this was started by this kid, poster child [his face is blocked in pictures. almost no one knows who he is], who even left the instructions.

oh and Jack Thompson [the rap and video game hater] had to get in it too.

now, may i ask, how is this deadly and bomb like??

Noooo...stereotypically, guys are known for gaming and being so interested in it that they'd do somethin like that

technically over half the gaming population are girls, so statisticly a female would do it. so dont dismiss the ladies... 5 ohio chicks just got you wrong on the 'gamer stereotype'

Well, most guys don't look at it like that. Some feel like girls play with dolls and boys play video games...and when they find out there's a girl who LIKES gaming and anime and all of that jazz, they're completely shocked...specially if they find out you're not just some bimbo button masher...

I think had it been 5 boys, they wouldn't have been SO hard on em...they may have overreacted still, but I think it wouldn't have been as bad...gender has lots to do with things in the gaming world...it's mostly targeted at boys (except for games like...Barbie Horse Adventures...). Which is why there are about 30 Japanese games with girls in bikinis and minigames that make the girls jump up and down and get into humiliating poses. I love DOAX, but it IS one of those games >.<

Why do I think this proves my point?...cause there are no games with a sexy young ripped guy stripping and bending over for me...unless you count Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time...and he wasn't just takin off his shirt for the hell of it, it gets messed up in battle (as well as in Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones...he falls and his shirt magically disappears) and he decides to take it off (slowly but surely...gawd I love you Ubisoft...strip for me >.<)

Secert[Lite - June 20, 2006 07:02 AM (GMT)
well yes its sterotypical but not because supposedly guys are more of the gamers but i think guys would be the ones to do it, its just how most guys are, trust me im not trying to imply anything about girls and their gaming, i actaully thought guys would be the stupid ones, trust me i didnt mean a thing so to tell the truth i think girls are normally the logicaly thinker I KNOW no one is the same but by my facts, girls are more logical thinkers and guys are just stupid

That IS true, but come on, girls can get stupid too (*points to all of my posts about ripped half naked guys*)
Nothin against you boys, but girls are more logical thinkers, as they don't have their minds on what's down in peoples pants as much. (Don't act like that doesn't fuel what some guys do...)

I guess in this case, some girls were havin' a lil sleepover and got bored...they liked Mario and said "dude let's make some Mario thingys!"

Secert[Lite - June 21, 2006 10:58 AM (GMT)
i thought i was random when i was bored, i do believe what i said but my classmates ex, and current the girls are proving me true HAH no but i do believe that girls are more logical thinkers USUALLY i say maybe 25 75, or 35 65
