I'm currently trying to beat hard mode on NGB. For those who have the game, played hard mode and beaten it(or trying to) you know that it's almost a completly new game, so that's a good thing, a good bang for my(and your buck)

However, and don't mind me if I vent on this post, but how the hell do you beat fiend Ryu? He's the biggest pain in the a$$ boss that I've ever played, harder than any boss on normal. Keep in mind that the moves that I use are meat and potato moves, not the elaborate ones like the Izuna Drop(this is because I lack the ability to do it, I wish NG had a practice mode to try these moves) it's mostly dodge, then hack at FR. I almost get him, but then he brings out Ryu's cheap lazy move, like a ninpo move or the one that I most detest: incendiary shuriken, especially when it actually hits your Ryu, and all you can do is wait for it to take a big chunk of your health off, man that pi$$e$ me off. What's worse, is you go to attack and you can't get a single hit in, or you end up hold L trigger the whole time.

I'll keep plugging away at it but in the mean time, if anybody has any useful advice, like what move to use let me know. Thanks.

Okay, I'm all out of ideas and stategies to beat fiend Ryu. He's way too unpredictable and way too fast, I have spent about 3 hours just on him so far and nothing.

Somebody here has had to have fought and beaten him. Either someone has beaten him and they don't want to tell me how, or they haven't seen that part yet or they're in the same boat that I'm in trying to beat FR. In that case, come and post and we can vent our frustrations together, or exchange strategies. I'm almost ready to say that FR can't be beaten, I get so close, but then he goes apesh!t on my Ryu and I'm done, and that's even if I have full health. I don't even have time to pause it to refuel Ryu with elixer.

So far, one thing that has worked a bit is to vary your attack, unlike other bosses, he doesn't have a routine move list, and it's not blatenly obvious that he'll unlease an ultimate attack (like the worms for example, they're the most predictable)I usually switch from sword to lunar to nunchuks a lot. I get in close, lots of blocking and get a hit in, if I can, but here's the problem. as soon as I drop my defence to attack, he gets his licks in there, also, he can dodge out of a combo halfway through it and kick the crap out of you. Like I said, it's really frustrating, if any of you have beaten him, throw me a bone here.

When I have to do the missions where I fight him he'll be a pain big time. He is the hardest boss to fight, at least I think so. First form Alma is pretty hard, Doku both forms, that Devil guy on the core level and Muri first level. All of the other bosses in the game are pretty easy, that's once you figure out their routine of moves. The dragon, what's his deal? At one point fighting him, he'll actually rest his head on the platform and does nothing, no attacks nothing. It gives you good, cheap oppurtunity to get a good 5 hits in there, what is he doing sleeping?

The problem with Fiend Ryu is that his defence is outstanding, he's incredibly fast and think of all the moves Ryu can do when you've almost finished the game, and his sword is maxed out level wise, I'm talking pure dragon sword.

Doku has good defence along with Muri and Alma and the Devil guy are just really fast and elusive.

well, it looks like i noticed this too late...^^ though i couldn't really offer much help since with fiend ryu it was more that i outlasted him with healing items than a sound strategy. x_x

and i'm not sure if you noticed it yet, but with the incendiary shuriken, if you roll right before it goes off, you won't get hurt.

You're right, that rolling technique against him is a godsend, you do realize that you're block at the same time, so when he throws his bombs at you, they deflect. Also, the best way to beat him is take one shot at a time with the Y button, don't get greedy, that was my problem. aviod ninpo because he just unleashes his most of the time. Take a more defensive approach, what to do is roll then attack with a downward or upward Y attack, then block immediatly, a very simple attack and yet, the only one that worked. Never wander too far, stay close to him.

My anger with him came like this, I had 10 spirit elixers and a great spirit elixer, and 4 elixer of the devils. More than enough resources, what would happen many times is that I'd have full health and I maybe used 1 or 2 bottles of spirit elixer, and i'd have him down to a sliver of health, at that point he'd attack with his bombs, ninpo and become extremely aggressive pulling combos that I never could. How I beat him was being more defensive and patient all the way through landing 1 or 2 hits here and there. I ended up beating him and I still had all my devil elixer, my great spirit elixer and 6 bottles of the spirit elixer.

So weird that a meat and potatoes attack was most effective.
