Title: The House of the Dead III
JWBB - June 18, 2005 01:03 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure if I've posted this already (I don't think I have, can't find it) but has anyone played this game? What did you think?
I have played it on both arcade machines (with shotguns, WOOT!) and my Xbox version with a submachine lightgun on shotgun mode, lol. Wow, this game is so much fun! Even the House of the Dead II was good. There is just one problem with them, and that is that the voiceovers were TERRIBLE! lol :) OMG it's so lame! The House of the Dead II ws the worst, but it was still bad on III. It's like hundreds of zombies attacking them is no big deal, like they pop a few every day on their way to the office, lol.
Anyway, without boasting, I consider myself a pro on HOTDIII. I have completed it 6 times so far on arcade machines, 3 times in Spain and 3 in the local arcade. My best so far is 5 credits, and the difficulty on the arcade machines in the UK is set on Normal/Hard with a life count of 4. In Spain it was 3, and my best was 6 credits.
On the Xbox I have completed it too many times, with everything unlocked, including infinite credits. I give myself 3 credits on Very Easy, 3 on Easy, 4 on Normal, 5 on Hard, and 6 on very Hard. To be honest, the game is dead easy whatever difficulty it's on.
Overall, if you can get your head round the terrible voice acting, you get a pretty good thrill out of blasting limbs off undead zombies, rats, and bats. And also trees!!! (complete with undead gardeners)
Overall, I give this game an 8/10, with the voiceovers letting it down. At least they were nowhere near as bad as HOTDII.
BTW the Xbox version has footage of the movie, so you can all see how bad that it is. Trust me, if you thought bad voiceovers were the worst thing in the game, you're pretty mistaken.

I was bad all around for me. Lamest final boss.
But I did get excited when the big old security guy chased you around.

It was fun playing the HOTD2 with the infinite lives thing. Too bad there were only two of them you could get

Yeah, shame the infinite lives is limited in HOTD2, but if you quit/turn off Xbox without actually finishing the game, I think it will still be in the inventory.
In HOTDIII I agree, Curien is really boring and too easy as a final boss. Hhe is almost an exact replica of the Emperor in HOTD2. But the security guard makes up for an interesting opponent.

I'm a big fan of HotD(not the movie :p). Well, pretty big fan, anyway.
That means I have the right to say that it has the worst voice acting ever.

Hehe. I used to have HOTD2 for Dreamcast. Pretty fun.
Have you seen House of the Dead 4 yet?
Here's a link with some screens:

I wonder if the voice acting will be any better
No_Doubt - July 10, 2005 01:01 PM (GMT)
Some screens looks great, however others look horrible. I hope the final version doesn't look like this.

Lol, just alpha screens! I'm sure they will do a whole of fixing up, as well as other game companies. The monsters will look great in their final fixup. Looks exciting! Big ol' monsters to chase you around.
JWBB - July 11, 2005 02:27 PM (GMT)
Hehe, I can't wait to play it, bad screens or not :) I just hope the voicing is done better, lol.
The monster in the middle of screenshot 4 looks pretty funny actually :)

Not impressed...
Texture quality is pathetic; what a letdown.
*looks at pics again*
...nope, I'm not impressed at all. I do like the hit decals on the characters, though. My biggest gripes with this is the low resolution(hell, Gears of War has waaaaaaay more polygon usage, and it's still way clearer), low poly environment(haven't seen that many angles in a level since Quake 2...), low poly characteers(no reason for that; I'd prefer major bodily deformations given the hardware), low resolution texture(that wall texture looks about the same resolution as Half-Life 1's texture, which isn't saying much)...
There's so much wrong with this; this could be done on Xbox 1. Hell, this could be done on PlayStation 2(sans the bumpmapping).

True, but then again, as said, these are probably concept shots from before it was finished completely. They will be improved, and if they're not, I'll be equally angry, lol.
