Title: Forget next-gen consoles
Mills McDougle - May 10, 2005 04:39 AM (GMT)
PC still is, and will forever be, where the action's at.
Some Unreal Tournament 2007 anyone? Oh, and these screens are real.

ok sorry. most games have a lot of bugs
Hayabusa316 - May 10, 2005 10:16 AM (GMT)
But you will ever have to buy new hardware for pc so that your new games are running properly. A console does not need this.

That's because consoles run on a lifespan. Take this into account:
How many consoles have we been through? A crapload, right? That's because eventually, the hardware gets dated. Devs flock to new consoles because of new capabilities, but what people don't realize is that PC is probably already capable of it, and if it isn't, it will be in a set amount of time because of the upgradeability. That's why PC gaming has been around for so long; it's the only 'console' that's able to keep up with the times. Remember how stoked we were to first see PS2?

that may be true but you also have to buy a new expansive PC every now and then, you can't just keep ungrading.
You don't have to worry about upgrading with game consoles, that's what I like about them, and about the time it gets old a new one comes around the corner

Well, true. But even then, a greatly upgraded PC can last two to three console generations. The 4Ghz PCs that Alienware sells can play current-gen and even next-gen games. Consoles ALWAYS become obsolete compared to PCs. Some consumers don't realize that if they feel they absolutely HAVE to have every system, they end up spending more than they would by just upgrading, or even buying, their PC. That's why, despite what anyone may say, PCs are better.
Dark Rabbit 87 - May 10, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
Here's the thing. For PC games, you're not voiding a friggin warranty (Keywords: FRIGGIN WARRANTY (unless it's a Dell)) for modding your case. Besides, mods and hacks for PC games are better than a bunch of cheat codes for a console game. Think about it, a PC right now is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY faster than all of the consoles combined right now. Oh yeah, you don't need to waste money on memory cards because you usually have enough hard drive space and RAM. And besides, will Unreal Tournament 2007 come out on a console first? Will it ever come out for a console? And plus, there's a good amount of bragging rights if you have the right equipment in there. I feel like a man more if I brag about how good my PC is than about what games I have for a console. And another thing, I grew up with a computer! I bet most of you console freaks don't remember MS-DOS!
smiles - May 10, 2005 08:26 PM (GMT)
yea but u can get hacked into for pc's and u can lose personal info. but then again there was that halo 2 video...
Dark Rabbit 87 - May 10, 2005 08:34 PM (GMT)
Most of the PC games are F-R-E-E online! Don't need no stupid subscription for them! That's why Battle.net was sooo awesome! That's why I played UT2K3 and UT2K4 online! I almost forgot one thing, can you IM on a console? Can you have emotes on a console? Can you access DOA Kunoichi on a console? Do consoles have speed dial (my cable modem has speed dial)? Does a console have the WSAD + Mouse? Can you 1337 on a console? Can you type 100 WPM on a console? Is Photoshop on a console?

I totally agree, PC's are better, always will be but I just like game consoles more  they have that something special, I don't know what it is but it's just not the same for me when I'm playing on the PC
Back on topic lol, the screens look very good
Dark Rabbit 87 - May 11, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
With PCs, you can spend money on the parts and build your own so you wouldn't have to have a brand name computer.
Anyways, I think UT2K7 will probably be the game I'll be playing online the most (please still make it free!). But as UC2 came out shortly after UT2K4, there might be a UC3 coming out shortly after UT2K7

KUnoichi: What is it that you don't like about them? Those are quite possibly THE most detailed models on the market right now.

Knights of old republic 2 on both PC and console have stuipid amount of bugs so, there even.

Both console and PC games have bugs. You can't blame that on the platform that it's on; it's all on the developer. You seen how many bugs Halo 2 has?!

(My first post... n00b alert!)
Actually, I wrote out a really long post before this one but the server seemed to time out as I was posting it so forgive me if this is too short a reply because I'm not writing all THAT again!
--
My main issue with PC gaming is that it creates a class divide. Users with more money get a better gaming experience than their neighbour with the same game.
It's much better to have games released as they were intended on consoles which have un-altering specs and that people can play together on a couch as opposed to an uncomfortable desk chair.
Online gaming on PC is good... But instead of playing WITH other people, all you're doing is sitting at your desk and getting fat.
Response?
Dark Rabbit 87 - May 11, 2005 09:05 PM (GMT)
Malcolm looks a little like Ving Rhames. I wonder if Malcolm's army is pretty much the same. I wonder what other clans they'll include and which ones might be taken out....
Mills McDougle - May 11, 2005 09:12 PM (GMT)
DTS: Too many to count. Despite both of the Halo's 'high production values,' people found ways to do a crapload of things that they aren't supposed to. I've done some of these myself.
JMD: Sounds like a biased opinion. You aren't looking at the whole picture. The main reason why PCs cost so much more is because they aren't made for one specific thing. And the whole thing about having more money equals a better gaming experience is BS; I can garuntee you that this area is very balanced. Perfect example: Doom 3. The PC version is good, but where's co-op? Half-Life 2. You don't need a powerful PC to run it on Xbox, but HL2 Deathmatch will be gone, as well as CS:S.
Another biased comment is on the comfort level. There ARE computer chairs that can beat out a couch any day.
And what the hell is this?
"Online gaming on PC is good... But instead of playing WITH other people, all you're doing is sitting at your desk and getting fat."
If you aren't playing a game like DDR, you're sitting down, and possibly getting fat, depending on your work out schedule. Come on, dude, really. None of your arguments are really even valid. Everything you said was one-sided and biased.

And what if I don't feel like playing WITH others online? Maybe I'm just a social outcast who loves to sit in one chair and play online with one computer and one connection. And what's this about getting fat? I still weigh 120 friggin lbs no matter how much I sit at the computer!
JoeMDesign - May 11, 2005 10:45 PM (GMT)
As I said... I typed for AGES... Let me clarify...
--
All I meant about the potential "class divide" is that my Half-Life 2 performs differently on my friends PC to my own wheras my friend's Xbox runs DOA:U exactly the same as mine.
--
I'm sorry about the "fat" reference. I was angry... *hulks up*
--
The comfort level is something I can never quite understand. Try playing Mario Kart on Gamecube with four people. You'll know what I mean by playing WITH other people. (btw I DO have Xbox Live and I enjoy it) PC games are great for MMORPGs but otherwise I choose console for my games and PC for my internet.

Next-gen Call of Duty 2. Imagine graphics like these on the scale of the Stalingrad level of the first one. :D

Mills McDougle - May 13, 2005 12:50 AM (GMT)
Well, the comp I have right now is impossible to upgrade. And if I could, the rig would probably explode. If I put a new motherboard in it, he rig wouldn't have room to breathe. I do plan to build one, though.

Damn, okay.
I recommend making a Custom Computer, it's quite fun. My Father and I made one a few months ago and it turned out to be really fun and, and the Computer rules. It has a window on the side so we put Blue LED lights and fans in it. It's super bright.
Good luck with yours.
