Bandai to Take Over Namco By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar" May. 2nd, 2005 7:49 am Japan's top toy maker Bandai Co. announced today it will buy Namco for 175.3 billion yen ($1.7 billion) to form a joint holding company. After the merger, Namco Bandai Holdings Inc will be Japan's third-largest toy and game business group after Nintendo Co and Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. In the past, both Bandai and Namco have tried to merge with Sega but failed. Sega merged with Sammy last year.
Mobile Suit Gundam, Digimon and Ultraman are some of the best known of the Bandai Group's characters. The Power Rangers have maintained a high level of popularity in North America for more than ten years. |
