Title: SH Monsters Real or Not?
JWBB - March 26, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
I just read a SUPERB explanation to the plots of the games Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3. Partly through the theory hit me that the monsters are not really there--they are objects of imagination. E.g.
SH2 Monsters
--------------------
Moving/crawling monster: A personification of James's suffering
Nurse: An image of Mary's nightmarish hospitality
Mannequin: Incarnation of James's 'natural urges'
Mandarin/Closer: A personification of a mind that does not accept that it is in sorrow
Red Pyramid Head: Based on an ancient executioner, an incarnation of James's feelings of guilt, and the feeling he needs punishment
Creeper: Symbol of Silent Hill's power
Flesh 'Lips': Symbolises Mary's feelings
Abstract 'Daddy': Symbolises Angela's troubled past
Mary: Incarnation of all Mary's feelings, emotions and thoughts an hour before death. Her body symbolises crucifiction, and her faces represents the Virgin Mary.
-----------------------------
So if these all really are 'feelings, emotions and illusions, are they really there?

Heh, you're big into this supernatural stuff, aren't you? :)
That is a good point, though. But, I believe they do exist in SH4. The back story on the ghosts swayed me to believe that.
JWBB - March 27, 2005 07:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, they exist in Silent Hill 4, as they all represent Walter's fears as a child. Wanted to know what the double head really was?
Okay, the double head represents the victims 07/21 and 08/21; Billy and Miriam Lochraine. Because they were children, they did not deserve the fate of eternal wandering, so he made them creatures in his twisted world to free them. You may here them whisper 'Reciever' as they point at you, going by the fact that Henry is the Reciever of Wisdom (sorry, spoiler).
Mills McDougle - March 27, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
Heh, s'alright. Thanks for the fact. I'd own it by now, but it requires a DVD drive for the PC version. :p
JWBB - March 29, 2005 01:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd love the PC version although my PC won't run it good, the graphics card is outdated and the memory is exhausted. :)

Wow that sounds very interesting

Some people, well probably most, think it's the weakest and less scariest game in the series. But I liked it. I even bought the it. I think it's my' favorite Silent Hill game.

You talking about the third or fourth installment? The only one I've played is the fourth and I love it. ^_^ Haven't beat it, though.

Yeah, I was talking about the 4th one. It's good and all, gameplay wise, but it's lacking in story and character build where the first three installments didn't. A lot of followers of the SH series, are dissapointed about that.
JWBB - March 31, 2005 03:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I agree. It wasn't scary at all (apart from the Apartments Revisited, that was pretty freaky). It was lacking in character build, but I think it had a really strong storyline, once you understand it properly. Also the soundtrack was the best in my opinion.
The third one was the best by miles :)
Mills McDougle - March 31, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
The third one scares the hell out of me just by looking at it. lol The freaky screeching noises and the characters vibrating all crazy and everything is scary as hell. I think I'll get that game since the Silent Hill 4 demo ran respectably. :D

I hated the subway station. My heart raced everytime I was in there. And I liked the soundtrack too. Especially Room of Angel. SH4 had a good storyline, but it wasn't enough to make make my mind boggle like SH2 did.

Oh, the Subway Station was really frightening in SH3. Moaning noises you can't explain, disconnected phones that ring as you walk past...
There was also a newspaper article on a phonebox explaining a suicide on a railtrack, then there's a cult magazine article about how 'spirits patrol their deathplaces' then try walking on the platform and a 'ghost' will push you onto the track and ironically, a you can hear a train in the distance...

That makes me want to play it. :D
That game actually looks scarier than SH4 simply for the fact that the whole view of the game is a lot more menacing.
JWBB - April 1, 2005 06:32 PM (GMT)
Trust me, you will not be disappointed :)

the SH series made me jump a couple of times but after playing these sort of games for a while you get use to the bits that would normaly freek you out. but it is true about what they say about games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil, never play them alone in the dark.

the first time i played SH3 i has alone or so i thought. the bloody misses snuck up behind me and poked me in both sides of the ribs which scared the absalute sh#t out of me. that ended my game play for the night.
Runaway_Shinobi - April 2, 2005 07:02 AM (GMT)
Thatīs why I never play alone when itīs dark :)
I borrowed SH3 from a friend once (that was years ago) and I played it while my boyfriend was with me. He hates Videogames and he fell asleep of course.
I played the game 2 hours and after that I had a nightmare concerning SH and the amusement park

I was gonna buy it for PC yesterday, but it was out of stock. :(

Mills McDougle - April 3, 2005 07:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah. What made it so stupid is that they didn't have it for ANY system that it was on. :\
JWBB - April 3, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah, grab the PC version where you can. In Britain it's quite rare now. In USA it's still quite common, so you're lucky, lol :)

I'm a fan of the Silent Hill series. So far, I've played SH1, SH2, and SH4 - not 3, because I don't have a PS2. Actually, I've gone through a bunch of uncontinued series because I decided to get an xbox instead of a ps2. Like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil (though it's now on game cube), and Tekken. Tekken would have been my favorite fighting game if I got a ps2. Anyways, back to Silent Hill... I think the only reason why I like playing Silent Hill is to uncover the story. I find Silent Hill's story line very interesting - especially Silent Hill 2. There was a point where I'd search for plot analysises for each game so I could better understand the story.
JWBB - April 5, 2005 01:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I wish SH3 was released on Xbox. It's the only one (except SH1) that wasn't.
