music:the music can relly get you hyped and it goes along great with the atmospheres of the certain enviorments i gave it an 8

entertainment:tekken 5 is highly entertaining, if you just want to play the older tekkens its a buy worth it,also you have an extra mode with jin which plays the sotry of him and the deil gene and the normal modes will keep you entertained for a while. i give it a 9
extras:10 because it has so much stuff its insane
Overall i give tekken 5 a 9.5 its a great game and its worth it. now if you dont mind i have to go fight jinpachi with christie montiero :dancebaby:

Problem is when I go back to Tekken I'm gonna have to get used to the fighting system again. DOA is the only fighting game I have been playing. Now I have to remind myself that there is a Hard, Soft punch button and Hard, soft Kick button...

Tekken 5......oh where to begin?
First off, i can honestly say that i've never been a avid fan of this series...because i got punished way too badly. Despite this, i've got to hand it to Namco. They really outdid themselves with this 5th installment of the "King of Iron Fist Tournament".
Graphics: :firstplace:
Definetly a huge step up from the 4th installment. I'm amazed at the processing power of the PS2, and how Namco did this justice by giving us a near-excellent arcade-port. Backgrounds are exceptionally done also. "Moonlit Wilderness" is just one of the many visuals that leaves a everlasting impression and feel to the title.
Gameplay: :firstplace:
Control configuration is as basic as it gets. It's still quite difficult for me as a newbie to grasp the "precision tapping", yet i can say i'm moving up pretty fast. I also enjoy the way the "pratice" section was placed. You can get an accurate display when it comes to "just frames", your "recovery time" from specific moves and your opponents, and a showcase of what each move looks like from peforming.
This IMO is the most "realistic feeling" fighter to date.
Sound: :firstplace:
Aside from the "general" soundeffects from tekken 5, i'm really digging the soundtrack. Most of the stage themes have that feeling of rememberance. After an hour of play, i immediately went to the options menu to access the themes. Once it's released stateside, i will be picking this up.
Funfactor: :firstplace:/:secondplace:
Undecided as to which one, so i placed them both up. Depending on your tollerance to fighting games....you'll either love or hate Tekken 5. The CPU can and more than likely will be a Serious pain in the rear for anyone. Yet on the brightside, there are plenty of modes and trinkets such as "The Devil Within" to keep the replay vaul very high.
As for me, i'm only playing this to get a feel for the game. After this, it's strictly "player vs. player" action.
Other Comments: :hanabi:
I give "kudos" to Namco once again. They've exceeded all of my doubts and made this worthy of a purchase. My only gripe is a few flaws still remain unchanged. Certain "linking grabs" can still be accurately performed by "button mashing", some moves deal "too much" damage, and "wall juggles" have become cheezy depending on the character you use. There was "wall recovery" in Tekken 4, but has been taken out in the 5th.
I still believe "Soul Calibur II" to be the better of Namco's current "babies", yet you shouldn't pass this one up...by any means.
Score: 9.0 of 10
Characters Used:
Jack-5
Asuka Kazama (my secret project :D)

Actually, I can't say that I'd give it a perfect 10. There are things that should've been added. Online play for a game of this type is a must, an AI system more like VF4 would've been perfect, and only being able to have one profile per memory card sucks. Given that, I'll give it a 9.4. :)
Oh, and Asuka is my current favorite. I own everyone; and special thanks goes to XCTU down at Tekken Zaibatsu for those great tips. :D

Runaway_Shinobi - April 8, 2005 07:32 AM (GMT)
Oh you´re lucky. I want to have this game but I don´t know when it comes out in Germany. I´d like to see Anna...
SimonSamoorye - April 8, 2005 07:53 AM (GMT)
Tekken 5? Haven't played it yet, Is it better than DOAU?
Mills McDougle - April 8, 2005 09:21 AM (GMT)
R_S: Yes, Anna's crazy in the right hands.
SS: Yes, it's better than DoAU.
Oh, and an update. The characters I use now are Asuka(highest priority for me), Steve(2nd highest), and Baek(3rd highest). One of the best players in my city says that I have the playing style of a top-tier fighter, and if I keep playing with high-level players, I'll be among the best in Omaha. It can only grow from there. :D :boyah:
Flash - April 12, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
i never been a big fan of the tekken games i got tekken 4 but the characters move way to slow and i noticed that the characters seemed toget slower every game, is tekken 5 slower?
and i hated alotta the characters coz it was a button mashing game lol (i also prefer more realistic games) lol so yeah how does this one compare to the others? in that type of thing is there still a fighting panda
Mills McDougle - April 12, 2005 12:16 PM (GMT)
It's not as button-masher happy as DoA is, but n00bs can pull off stupid three hit combos if they're lucky. The game is nicely paced; I've a few tournament movies if you don't believe me. This is a really big step up from T4. Don't even compare T4 to this...
Runaway_Shinobi - April 12, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
Oh, this game looks so good. I´ve seen some images on IGN or somewhere else. You have the option to buy new clothes, sunglasses and stuff for your player, right?
This is so cool, I´ll have to get the game especially when hearing it´s better than Tekken 4

Tekken needs to stop clownin' and come onto XBOX  . Then there will definitely be a Live version, they'd have to do it, due to competition from DOAU
Doffy90 - May 22, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
this is how I compare DOA & Tekken
Once upon a time I had losy internett connection (Tekken) and then I got high speed connection (DOA) afther this I can never ever go back to slow connection again (Tekken)
What im saying is that, after playing DOA u can never go back to Tekken because DOA is so much better, in tekken when they hit eachother it comes out strange symbols that clarify that u have touched that person and that's NOT realistic at all
and Tekken is so slow, they take 100 years before they attack and at last.............there is that awfull defend system or wait a sec there isnt one, that's SO BAD.
SUM UP=DOA | RULES! - TEKKEN | CRAP!

I agree with u Doffy, Tekken is bad, nothing can compeat with DOA, thats fact! :dancebaby: , Love the graphics on both, but thats not why im playing, need some speed up and good defence attacks

Gotta love fanboys.
First off, learn how to judge a game.
Tekken requires so much more strategy than DoA; there's no comparison. If you consider way better defense "OMG Let me input the high counter command so when they swing three seconds later because they'll get caught by it OMG LOL WTF," then to each their own opinion, but that's not the way it works. DoA requires knowing when to counter, and that's it.
Tekken is, by miles, more realistic. Just because it doesn't move at crackhead speed doesn't make it slow. :p
Matter of fact, the only factual advantage DoA has against on Tekken is graphics and level design. That's it.

And the fact that DOA is more fun. :dancebaby:. That's in my opinion though. I guess I just like the faster gameplay. Tekken is a fantastic franchise.
Leifang12 - May 22, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
for a long time ago I was crasy widt tekken but when i saw dead or alive i think this game most be the best game there are evermade and when i got a new game i always go back to the newest dead or alive there have been maked :)
HelenaKicksAss - May 23, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
tekken 2 was the first PSone game i bought. ^^
but after tekken tag tournament i was shocked, it got even worse after tekken 4, those pseudo-render-squences were aweful. Jin & Hwoarang scene or Lei WuLongs FREEZE -.-
well tekken 5 looks a lot better ^^
hmm gameplay i dunno, i like those combo throws which the williams sisters use ^^
hope they're still in the game XD
but i somehow think that tekken (5) can easily be won by button smashing when playing against another human.
well, tekken 6 seems to be a graphic revolution, i saw a pic of jin and it is
Luminous_Daybreak - May 23, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
That Jin picture with his blackheads isn't real time, if you're thinking that.

Another thing that kills me is how people around accuse Tekken of being a button masher and it sucking because of it, when in DoA you press PPPK, PPP, etc. and look like a master. :p
And I'm not bashing DoA because I don't like it; I'm still a big fan of the franchise. But it annoys me when people knock this game because they're DoA loyalists. Please, people, spare me.

and I can't belive u guys acctualy are defending TEKKEN!!!
it makes me sick
Have u guy's see Tekken 5's end story's of the characters......well I have seen a few and they are crap.
And DOA is WAY WAY WAY better then Tekken
Edit: Eddy wasn't removed in Tekken4, he was just hidden under Christie

I kinda have to disagree with you on this one mills. True, players can get counter-happy when it comes to DoA, but the true priority here pertains to hit accuracy.
DoA's mechanics rely heavily on juggles and damage accumulation. Sure, it could be classified as a button-mashing title, but that's what the counters are for, to balance out the button mashing. Also, for the counter happy folks....you don't get fustrated...you throw them. Throw the living crap outta them....make your opponent think twice when it comes down to the wire.
The only true example of this is to watch high-level competitors. Trust me, in the end...it boils down to who gets the "meaty" hits first.
One gripe i do have with DoA as a whole is the "blocking" issue. People who rely on it are too safe. Blockers can get the upper hand on you soley 'cause they can recover faster than you. Finding ways to punish blockers is a difficult chore by fault of the game's concept alone.
Tekken suffers from the exact same issue....to a degree. Of course, you can break a person's guard with a heavy attack...yet that doesn't guarantee victory in your favor. Another issue that i've with Tekken as a whole is the "wake up game". To this day, Namco still hasn't fix this "bug". A person's skill should not be determined by how good your "wake up game" is.
Now, if there was a way to stop it (other than being knocked down on cue), then i'd have no issues with Tekken 5.....sadly, it isn't. Many characters also have 100% guaranteed combos when near a wall......which goes back to mechanical flaws.
I don't blame the players, i blame the programers....hands down.
DoA is a fun and worthy title to the 3d world of fighting games. Tekken is also a fun and worthy title to the 3d world of fighting games. DoA is certainly not the "best fighter" on the market today.....yet neither is Tekken.
I'm completely neutral when it comes to fanbase propaganda, but i'll leave this debate on this note:
Does anyone even talk about Virtual Fighter 4 anymore? If you want realistic, that's the game to play, without a doubt.
Doffy90 - May 23, 2005 08:07 AM (GMT)
the clothes in Tekken isnt as good as in DOA.....BUT I hate this about DOA when u look at the trailer of DOA4 u can see that Kokoro's hair and dress just goes right throught her body likes she's invisible and as far as I know that dosent happen on Tekken so that I will give them credit for
