I'm glad I don't go that far into illegal actions. I feel bad for the fans who had chipped Boxes and did this.
Dan - February 9, 2005 10:39 PM (GMT)
I betyou it was ninjahacker!!!
Dark Rabbit 87 - February 9, 2005 10:43 PM (GMT)

It was the Ninja Hackers!!!
I was at their site like last week and it was shut down. I figured this is what happened to'm. I'm surprised it took Tecmo that long to get to'm. GG.
I wonder if they'll try to attack the user accounts there.
Dan - February 9, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
yeah.....when i heard of that site i was wondering what why it is not closed

Dark Rabbit 87 - February 10, 2005 02:03 AM (GMT)
I would rather pirate if it was necessary than actually hack!
Victorthebattousai - February 10, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
Not entirelly positive on what is happening. Is this about those perverts who made the nude patchs? Or is this about that site with the Osama Bin Laden patches?

generally speaking, though, pirating is MUCH more harmful in terms of profits than illegal hacking.
of course, to pirate games one usually needs to do some hacking. :p

Ninja Hackers.com (or .net or whatever the hell it is) got sued by Tecmo because they h@xXoR2

Huh?
We know...
Dark Rabbit 87 - February 10, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)
but the dude who posted before me didn't (or was he just joking?)
Darkfox101 - February 10, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
I hate hackers. They can die. They make viruses and hack games before they even come out. Like Half Life 2. Shoot em' all I say.
XDestruction - February 10, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
What's funny here is, you guys are only hearing one side of this story.
I'm going to play a little devil's advocate here.
Yes, they broke copyright law by deassembling the code (they did not have source code), but I see no wrong from this. All they seemed to be doing is skin mods mostly. Some of them sucked like the nude mods and the controversial mods, but the mods that DO NOT stand out are the good ones, which is a shame. These people are fans, just like us, who went over the top to make DOA3 have more skins, because of it's sheer lack of skins. The way you guys are making them out to be, they're criminals, which is just not the case here. Essentially, they're modding the game for the better (except for nude mods...), and creating a greater fanbase from it, instead of a smaller one. These are just not the same kind of hackers which would put virus' into the world, go into other people's systems, or hack a game to gain advantage in an online game. They're just adding some skins, albeit some controvertial skins, but still they are just skins added to the character, nothing more.
On the other side that you guys have heard is that Tecmo is protecting their game. I agree with that too, a developer must always protect their intellectual property, and this is no different. Itagaki sees these characters as his 'children' and wants to protect them from being undressed or turned into something they're not. I admire that. The truth is, Tecmo has every right to go after these 'hackers' because of copyright law.
Should Tecmo have sued them is the real question. Think it through clearly though. Even though ninjahacker broke the law, should they be sued a large amount of money, just for making some DOA skins and tools? I would think not. I agree with a small amount of money, since they still broke the law... which is stated each time you turn on ANY Tecmo game.
Thing is, you guys have to get a little something straight... these hackers are trying to better the game of DOA, not use it to cheat or anything like that, just make skins. They're not as bad as you make them out to be. I understand both sides, and see both sides' cases, you should too.
Mills McDougle - February 10, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
Well, the way I see it, they knew better, which makes it a lot worse. I can understand how the fanbase feels, as there's a lot of products that I wouldn't mind doing this to. But to blatantly break the law is ignorant. It's not like you can miss the Warning screen they bless all of their games.
Dark Rabbit 87 - February 10, 2005 11:31 AM (GMT)
Well there are bunch of Madden (and other NFL games) fans that are just as much of fans as these hackers but they don't make like illegal mods that allow you to intstantly score a TD or something. I mean there is just as much fandom for some other games too but those games are so fun that they don't need to be hacked. I mean sure they have mods for Halo where you don't have to be the Master Chief (my brother played as a Grunt!) but I guess that would be another story right?
Kawamura - February 10, 2005 08:34 PM (GMT)
you can see exactly what the charges are and hear from the man who is getting sued at xbox-scene.com. He is a fan like us and others,. He was not getting profit from this and only a few people know what to do with his mod. In all if he wins this case ( has to prove that the codes are not tecmo's sole property) then this will be a victory for the whole modding comunity. Mods and mod chips are not illegal, only viods the warrenty.
bsu - February 10, 2005 08:53 PM (GMT)
Guess they were tired of seeing shitty skins.
smiles - February 10, 2005 08:57 PM (GMT)
these punks better get in alot of trouble. i find it dishonorable to do stuff like that to games.

Same here.
Dark Rabbit 87 - February 10, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
Well after thinking about it, people who mod games get more trouble than people who mod cars. The only way car enthusiasts get in trouble if they violate the decibel limit or go well over the speed limit. But if you have guys like these getting in trouble for just trying to make a game more fun, it seems kinda ridiculous because what about the people who make mods and ##### for PC games. I've never heard of them really get into trouble once. I've heard of people getting into deep ##### for leaking source code but not for making mods and skins.

mmmmmmmmmmm
dang
well........
have fun @ court is all i say
Darkfox101 - February 11, 2005 01:58 AM (GMT)
What's the difference in Modding and Hacking?
Mills McDougle - February 11, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
Well...let's see, lemme think of a way to put this...
OK, here. Xboxs have to be hacked before any game can be modded. The companies don't release this stuff for public use, which makes this stuff illegal.
Darkfox101 - February 11, 2005 02:12 AM (GMT)
So it's ok to Mod games like Quake, Quake 2, and other FPS games. Right?
Mills McDougle - February 11, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
I don't think there's a PC game out there that's illegal to mod unless the source code to do so is unreleased.
Dark Rabbit 87 - February 11, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)
I would be shocked if they got out of court alive

spikerboy - February 11, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
I was a member to see what was going on, but I didnt hack.
I have no mod chip! :)
I decided to mess around when i found "files" on eMule.
Edit:
when I say "mess around" I refer to 3d software.
