Umm...I actually introduced myself in the Introduce yourself section. :hmm: I didn't expect this to be an ebonics outburst, or leeway to drop the N-bomb. I mean, I'm black and all, but that can be offensive to a lot of people online, so I would refrain from saying it, specially here. Or maybe that's just me. ;)

But, uhh, yeah, on another note, does ANYONE here even listen to Em?

bsu - October 28, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
I would think, in the real world, just saying that word is offensive. I noticed alot of the black artists say it themselves, why even say it all? It's a term used to degrade black folks ~_ ~

Anyways, no I don't listen to Em....but I did hear that remix song he did with Dido.

LOL Here we go!

In my eyes, it's not offensive unless it's intended to be from whomever spoke it. TBH, their are a few white people that drop it on me a few times. I don't really suggest that they do it, but it's not like they get carried away, and one of them grew up surrounded by blacks. But anyway, it's basically just like saying homie or whatever. But it's when that -a goes to -er; that's when it's crossing the line. Or when nonblacks are saying the word interchangeably between each other. That's when it gets annoying and considered crossing the line.

But out of respect for my environment, I'll usually only say it around people that are used to hearing it(and that goes for any race). But putting the effort to actually type it in a diverse community such as this one doesn't feel acceptable, both to you and me. But that's just me rambling on again. :D :p

It's very different here (well, where I used to live) I don't think respect exists around these people. Since the "hip-hop" group keeps saying it, it rubbed off the people around them.....and they wonder why they are being "(??)RACIST(??)". I remember hearing an argument over that, she said....

"it's okay for black people to call eachother that, if you white you better not be sayin it"

I still think that word should be crossed out, the older black generation would agree with me. I prefer to call people by their names. You CAN say that word, I can't do anything about it but that's just my thoughts.

otoh, you could see it as a subculture taking something meant to degrade and insult them, and turning it into a positive word in that culture...sort of as kind of rebellion.

slang is hard (maybe impossible) to really pin down definition-wise though.

Very well put.

I agree with everything there. You could say it's a type of rebellion, but a lot of people in the last generation say it. I think it's quite ironic, though, that the one word the people of then called us to offend is the same word they can't stand to hear us say today, as if they were defeated in a sense. LOL, but yeah, it's just confidential slang that we use amongst ourselves.

Mills McDougle - November 5, 2004 01:29 PM (GMT)
Just got the CD last night from a friend. It's a burned copy and I'm sure he got it off the internet, but I still plan to buy it.

The good news is the CD is good. I'd even say it's his most contraversial by far("Da-doing doing doinnnnng!"). The CD proves that his style can do nothing but get better; and the ever-popular song Mosh makes you wanna choke whoever's close by. Plus the CD is hilarious. :D

The bad news is if you don't like different, you won't like this CD. The difference between this CD and his other ones is kinda like the difference between Outkast's lastest and earlier work(well, not that different, but you catch my drift.)

If you like Eminem AND a certain degree of versatility, you like(or love) this one, but beware.
