The duo group with a healthy image, Fly To The Sky, came out with a new album 'Missing You' in autumn 2003 after resting for a year, which showcased more mature and graceful songs. In the album, the duo's voices blend perfectly and have received good reviews for their new album. In a recent interview, they revealed that there was a time in their career for two years in which they disliked each other and there were even circumstances when they could not stop arguing.
Brian and Fany who met in 1998 to form Fly To The Sky realised that their personalities were getting more and more similar after 4 albums in 5 years. They realised that they could not do without each other and that sometimes looking at the other was like looking in a mirror. An example would be in their song 'Seub Gwan' when the lyrics say "Both seem to have poisoned by each other's poison."
What good and bad points do you think the other has?
Brian: It is known that Fany can sing very well and when he stands on the stage he has lots of confidence and i really envy him. I feel that i must learn from him. His bad point? His feelings and emotions are all written clearly over his face and he doesn't know how to hide it. When he's not feeling happy, he will look very frustrated and everyone will know he's not happy by looking at his face and the fans will also feel sad.
Fany: Brian's personality is very cheerful and he has lots of friends. He will make everyone around him feel happy as well. He's great at creating a fun atmosphere and that's his good point. His love for music has reached a point where he's smitten with it. He's always very serious and hardworking when singing. His beauty is in his gentleness. His bad point is that he pursues perfection but lacks confidence. As a result, when he sings badly, he will blame himself. If he could open up and relax a bit it would be better.
What's the difference about each other now and when you first met?
Brian: This question has a lot of meaning to me. When Fany and I first met, we disliked each other and even argued constantly. The gap between us was especially big during our second album. It was weird that we didn't break up, but struggled on. This unhappiness between us lasted for 2 whole years. The three years after that, we worked hard to produce chemistry and we have now reached a point where we cannot work without each other. Our personalities have become very similar. We both like to dress in hip-hop clothing and as we grew older, we both started to prefer to wear more mature clothes.
Fany: Brian's right, we both didn't like the look of each other at the start because he just came back from America and his lifestyle crashed with my traditional Korean ways and caused conflicts. I thought that he was a "fake caucasian". Now that he's more like a "Korean", he's even clearer on some of the social etiquette and tradition of Koreans.
