Last year was certainly singer Lee Hyori's year in the spotlight, with four Artist of the Year Awards in her pocket. Now it looks as if Lee's success streak will be continuing into the New Year.

DSP Entertainment, the company representing Lee said on Wednesday that for more than one million U.S. dollars, Lee has agreed with Hong Kong-based Emperor Group to star in two movies. This will be Lee's big screen debut and her ticket to the world.

"We feel that Lee has the potential to make it in Hong Kong," said Albert Yeung, chairman of Emperor Group during a press conference in Seoul.

"If DSP Entertainment is responsible for Lee's career here, Emperor Group is happy to be responsible for Lee's career in Hong Kong and the world," said Yeung.

Lee will be shooting two movies this year, and in one she will be working with action star Jackie Chan. The script is still in the works and the title and director are yet uncertain. For the other film, Emperor Group is talking with Hark Tsui and if all goes well, producers hope to start shooting by late February. The movie will be based on a Japanese comic book series. The leading male role has not been chosen, but Yeung said that it will be "for sure a top Hong Kong star."

"I have been offered many roles here in Korea but I chose to make my acting debut elsewhere because my image as a dancer and singer is fixed," said Lee during the press conference. "This will be my chance to show that I am capable of doing more."
