Kim Chang-hyun, called úWThe Second Kim Kyung-ho,úWhas released his debut album, úWEternity.úWThe Teen Times met the rocker at the Fom Entertainment office in Chongdamdong on November 27.
Q : Please tell me about your debut album.

Kim : It's divided into two parts, and they contrast strikingly. The first half is Rock Ballad, and the second is Hard Core & Rock. You may find it similar to the music of American rock group, Linkin Park.


Q : How did you become a singer?

Kim : I have been singing in many bars and clubs since I was 16 years old. One day, when I was singing at a bar in Misari, a manager from an agency saw me and felt I had potential. I was lucky to catch his eye.


Q : I heard you're a big fan of Seo Tai-ji.

Kim : Absolutely. I look up to him because he has his own characteristic and pride. I love Led Zeppelin and Queen as well. Their music is so inspiring to me.


Q : What's your favorite song to sing in Karaoke?

Kim : It's hard to answer because there are so many good songs... I guess I like singing úWForeverúWby Stratovarious. It's on the O.S.T. of the TV drama, úWThe First Love.úW


Q : What's your stress reliever?

Kim : I like doing active sports. I enjoy wakeboarding and snowboarding.


Q : Last month, you went to Tashkent, Uzbekistan for a concert. How did you feel performing for Korean-Uzbekistanis?

Kim : After a nine-hour flight, we arrived in Tashkent. Many Korean people warmly welcomed us with a bunch of roses. They have lived there all through their lives and couldn't speak any Korean, but I felt that we are still family. I could see that we're all mentally and emotionally connected. It was especially good that many of the girls there like to put on miniskirts.(laugh)


Q : Do you have a girlfriend?

Kim : I don't have a girlfriend... I like women with classic Korean beauty like the actress Park Ju-mi. She looks great in Hanbok, doesn't she? I think I'm a rather old-fashioned man.


Q : If you make a lot of money, what do you want to do the most?

Kim : My family was rich, but we had some financial difficulties after my grandfather's bankruptcy and death. My grandmother worked so hard to support us. I was ashamed that she had become a street vendor, so I pretended not to know her when passing by the stall. However, I'm really proud of her now. I want to make my grandmother really happy with my earnings.


Q : What color do you think best expresses who you are?

Kim : My fans say my color is fluorescent green - a very energetic color. Usually I'm quiet, but I become so lively when I sing onstage.


Q : If you have an opportunity to give your own concert, who would you invite as a guest performer?

Kim : I want to invite Cho Yong-pil first. I think he's the greatest singer. I respect his efforts for perfection. And... I want to sing with Kim Sung-myun, K2. When I went to his concert, I became addicted to his performance.


Q : Do you have any special sleeping habits?

Kim : Yes... it't very embarrassing to say this... but in my childhood, I used to sleep while cuddling my grandmother's bosoms and cushiony belly.(laugh) I live with my friend now, and sometimes I touch him while sleeping. He jumped at first, but he now seems used to it.(laugh)


Q : What do you usually do first when you get up and last when you go to bed?

Kim : I'm an early riser in spite of going to bed midnight. Five hours is enough time for sleep. If I stay in bed too long, my back gets itchy. When I get up, I drink a glass of cold water and turn on the computer. I have bowel trouble, and I've heard that drinking water early in the morning is good for the bowels. I pray before going to bed and look back on my day.


Q : Lastly, what's the most precious thing in your life?

Kim : My treasure is friendship. I have three best friends from my childhood. I'm willing to do anything for them, even risking my life. I also treasure my acoustic guitar. My guitar was always with me during my hard times. I'll never trade it for anything.
