We flyin' first class up in the sky
Poppin' champagne, livin' the life
In the fast lane,
I won't change by the Glamorous
Oh flossy, flossy
Welcome to New York City, where a multitude of teenagers live, sleep, eat, party, and occasionally attend class. High schoolers here range from your stereotypical blonde popular girl and flirty b-list jock to the outspoken scene queen with pink hair and the outcast guitar player known for his anger management problems, however they each have something in common. They all crave drama and excitement, and will go to almost any extent to get what they want.
Wear them gold and diamond rings
All them things don't mean a thing
Chaperones and limousines
Shopping for expensive things
You know what they say- the city never sleeps. Well, neither do the city's inhabitants. Whether they're up late clubbing or cramming for the SATs, one thing is for certain- NYC is far from boring. Everything may seem to run smoothly from an outsiders point of view, however the opposite is actually true. A-Listers greet each other cheerfully in the hallways each morning and have no problem working together on English projects and going shopping after school, regardless of what they're actually feeling.
I be on the movie screens
Magazines and bougie scenes
I'm not clean, I'm not pristine
I'm no queen, I'm no machine
If you didn't know better, you might say that students in the same cliques did this almost as a reflex. Because, after all, its not just A-Listers that do this- B-Listers and Rebels want to seem self-confident and put together too. That's New York City's high schoolers in a nutshell; always competing to be the best, to seem in charge. With the A-Listers, its about who has the best clothes, the skinniest bodies, and for the boys, who scored which girl. The B-Listers are always struggling to join the A-List by earning compliments and dating popular guys, while for the rebels its mostly about who-humiliated-which-a-lister-how.
I still go to taco bell
Drive-thru, raw as hell
I don't care, I'm still real
No matter how many records I sell
You heard that right- war's often rage between not only the Rebels and A-listers, but the B-listers and A-Listers as well. Its obvious why the A-listers and Rebels fight. They each stand for totally different things- the Rebels think that the A-Listers are too snobby and shallow for their own good, while the A-Listers regard most all Rebels as weird and pathetic. Rebels hate B-Listers just as much, if not more. The wannabes are even worse than the real thing, the reason. As for the power struggles between the A-and-B-Listers, those are less obvious and more complicated. Although the B-Listers are often total suck-ups to their surperiors, they also recognize that for one to rise another must fall.
I got problems up to here
I've got people in my ear
Telling me these crazy things
That I don't want to know
In reality, things are not as they seem. No matter how cocky they act, how good at sports they are, and how expensive their newest Prada bag was, each of these teenagers fears that in some way. they'll never be good enough. Boyfriends will be stolen, secrets will be shared, catfights will occur. Are you ready to join the glamorous life?
