    THE PUPPET
full name : Regulus Arcturus Black
nicknames :
Though he prefers his full name of Regulus, being the youngest in the family, he’s been suck with quite a few unwanted nicknames. Reg is the only one he can really stand, while Reggie can be just barely tolerated. Little King, Baby Reg, Reggie-poo, Little Prince, Tattle-tale, Mother’s boy, and cry baby are the most prominent within the family, though Bella and Sirius in particular seem to rejoice in giving him embarrassing names. Most of his ‘friends’ know him by Regulus or Black, as do most of his housemates and some of Ravenclaw. The rest of the school know him either as ‘Sirius Black’s little brother’, ‘You slimy snake!’, or ‘the sarcastic git’.
date of birth : April 20th 1961
house : Slytherin
age : Fifteen
year : Sixth
wand type : 10¾” Ebony, Nundu fang core
blood line : Toujours Pur - Always Pure
pets :
Two greyhounds, Cepheus and Cassiopeia, given to him by his cousin Andromeda when he was younger. Of course, they cannot accompany him to school, so he has a hawk, ironically named Icarus.

    THE LOOKS
hair color : black
eye color : blue gray
height&weight : 5’9” & 140
played by : Alex de Brabant
full appearance :
Regulus inherited the "Black good looks" as did most other members of his family, but unlike most, he never fully realized the power his handsome face could have when wielded properly. The complexion of his skin is somewhat pale almost all year round from his British and French heritage, although during the summer it might darken just the smallest bit from being forced out of the house by his cousins or parents. Regulus isn't fond of facial hair, as it always grew quite oddly on him, in little spurts here and there, and made his face itchy, so he is always clean-shaven. Regulus was born with the hair that is common amongst the his family, at least, if you ignore his cousin Narcissa. He keeps his hair somewhat long, or at least as long as a pureblood heir is able to (shoulder length is only for Heads of families). It is as dark as his last name implies, and has a slight curl to it.

His eyes are also a-typical for the Black family. Every member in the family has a variation on the Black family grey eyes. Regulus himself has a blue-grey, while his mother has a darker grey, and his father an almost cobalt blue-grey, and Sirius has his plain grey ones. They are framed by thick, dark lashes that he believes make him look girly, but his female ’friends’ argue make him look ’exotic’. Dark brows are arched over his eyes, and usually raised in amusement.

Much to his disappointment, Regulus is not as tall as most men in his family seem to be. His father being well over six feet, and his brother being the same. He is just barely five foot nine, and hasn‘t grown in the past year. He has the slender build to match his height, with lean muscles developed from skirmishes with his brother and cousins and other boys in his youth. Although in possession of a body that most people would call attractive, Regulus doesn't pay much attention to the way he looks; he was more interested in making sure that his body would bed able to bring him from point A to point B.

Regulus is, of course, most fond of his wizarding robes. He prefers the colors black and silver, as they are the ones that represent his family and go quite well with his skin tone, hair, and eyes, or at least that’s what Cissa tells him. His slacks are usually dark as well, and the shirts that he wears are button-up and collared. He wears just as much jewelry as is proper for a man, including a ring with the family crest emblazoned into it and an expensive silver watch. Overall, the best word to describe Regulus' appearance would be impeccable, as his shirts and pants are always crisp and ironed, and there is never a wrinkle to be found on his robe.

    THE INSIDES
likes :
reading, learning, potions, charms, hexes, jinxes, being alone, early morning, the quiet, winter, doodling, taking walks
dislikes :
boring people, parties, loud noises, stupid people, ignorance, annoying people, transfiguration, betrayal
strengths :
Regulus is stronger than he thinks, emotionally. Despite his own thoughts about how he handled the situation, he coped very well with Sirius’s departure and pretty much forced himself not to think about it after a week of continuously analyzing every detail about how and why his brother left. He’s people-smart and finds it easy to read them which in turn makes it much easier for him to reach the desired result when dealing with people. He’s also a bit of a pro at creating a blank façade which he presents to the world, masking his emotions entirely so he’s in turn unreadable. It was something that his mother insisted that he did before he went to Hogwarts so that he wouldn’t be manipulated by some of the older students.
weaknesses :
Regulus knows that nobody can be perfect and they have to have flaws. One of these is that he’s very unwilling to let his brother go, even if nobody would ever pick up on this. As you will find, he’s obsessed with Sirius and this is a major flaw in his book. Another flaw is that he is stubborn and is not one to give in easily – unless it’s to his family – and this has often ended badly, with Regulus being pissed off or angry at the result. His moods are another problem as he can’t easily pull himself out of them and as a result can be seen storming around Hogwarts with a scowl on his face. The major flaw – although this is seen as more of a strength in his eyes – is that he’s very unapproachable and so can make a burden for his own back by being prickly and snappy towards those who he sees as inferior.
habits/quirks :
taps his left hand when bored or tired, twirls the heir ring on his right ring finger when nervous, will stare at people just to see how long it takes them to get creeped out, when thinking will not blink for a long time.
boggart : having his entire family abandon him
patronus : gray fox
"C'mon Reg, Mum and Dad said I could finally teach you how to fly!"

Regulus bounded down the stairs to where his eight year old brother was standing. "You sure, Siri? You said that last time, and we got in trouble. And I don't want that to happen again."

Sirius smiled, remembering the last time he had snuck out with Reggie in tow, and had started flying around the neighborhood. "Yeah little brother, I'm sure. Anyways, they raised the wards and everything, meaning that no muggle'll even see us! Now hurry up, we only have like an hour, then we gotta get dressed for that stupid party."

The younger boy grinned. It would be his first time ever on a broom. His father had Sirius when he was younger, but was much busier now and didn’t have the time, nor did he care, to teach his second son, the one he thought of as a 'spare'. His brother spent a few moments explaining how to maneuver the broom. He was told to be careful with jerky move, and that the broom was the newest and would react to even the slightest of touches.

Regulus mounted the broom and pushed off the ground. He was a bit wobbly for a few moments, but after looking to Sirius and seeing a reassuring look in his eyes, he began to test the broom. Pulling the broom handle up a small amount, he began to rise higher into the air. A grin came onto his face, and he turned to the left a bit. But, it was a bit too much and he began spinning.

He suddenly stopped. Looking down, he saw that Sirius had reached up and grabbed the broom handle to make him stop. A grin was across his brother' face, and it threw Regulus off for a moment, his brother hadn't grinned like that in a long time. "Good job Reggie, but I think we're done for today. Mum won't thank me if your puking so much you can't come to dinner. And I really don’t wanna be there without you for company."

"Mkay Siri, but could we do some more tomorrow?"
dream job : to work with dark creatures, or travel the world. It’s not like he really need any money
overall personality :
One thing Regulus definitely isn't is less than skin-deep. His mental and emotional processes work on two completely different levels. The first, his "outward" persona, is a carefully structured mask that utilizes his almost natural poker face. The second, personal level is a mess, a bundle of uncontrollable and hyperactive emotions that run on a ceaseless roller coaster ride through his body.

His outward persona consists of two sides. The first side is reserved for people he respects; he treats them with courtesy and shows an impeccable set of manners that reflect his tutelage and upbringing. This side is the one viewed by his fellow Slytherins and professors, in other words, the people he views as equals or superiors. He is quiet, and a gentleman when the situation calls for it.

The second side of his outward persona is what "everyone else" sees; that is, non-Purebloods, muggle lovers, and anyone who is not in a position of authority. The reason he has a reputation as one of the mean, cruel Slytherins is because of this particular mask he wears. He is blunt and cold, with a general lack of concern whose feelings he may be ripping to shreds. He also doesn't hesitate to snap a harsh remark at someone he feels deserves the treatment.

His secretive nature and preference to keep mainly to himself is probably one of the main reasons he never had many friends (and no good friends) and wasn't very popular with girls. He was always extremely jealous of Sirius for so easily having both friends and girls, though Regulus never really cared for the latter himself. The truth was that he had always wanted to be like Sirius and to have what Sirius had -- something that didn't change as he grew from childhood to adolescence.

A pandemonium of emotions and thoughts that crash and burn orderlessly best describes his inner persona that he tries to keep secret. Few people have seen Regulus when his outward mask was cracked or missing, and those few that have could attest to the chaos that governed his emotional and mental faculties. He is like an emotional contradiction, plunging in all directions at the seemingly same time; his mood can swing quickly and abruptly, taking him from calm and collected one moment to sulking and seething the next. He always tries to ignore his feelings, which is probably why they're constantly in such a state of disarray. He doesn't know how to handle them, as he'd never learned how, so he pretends like they don't exist by donning his social mask.

His temper, almost nonexistent in his outward persona, is easily roused if his guard is down. With the right words aimed at the precisely right spot, Regulus' guard can be cracked open and the mask destroyed. When he is angry and his temper is flaring, he says things he doesn't mean, spiteful words intended solely to hurt, and is usually difficult to placate once in such a state. Regulus will hold onto a grudge forever and will be the last to forgive, but will never forget.

When Regulus is upset, he is more likely to launch into a dark, moody silence during which meaningfully, angry glances are cast at the guilty party than throw a fit or start yelling (unless that particular reaction was intentionally provoked). While he still gets upset when he's in his "outward" persona, he draws into himself and sulks mentally rather than being blatant about it as he would if his guard was let down. Generally, he will stay like that until he is either ignored long enough or apologized to (or, in the days of his childhood, until Sirius would drag him off somewhere and somehow make him forget -- for a while -- that he was upset).

He also hid in his inner persona his loyalties and friendships. Once Regulus makes a friend, they will have his unconditional support and loyalty, unless they do something to betray his trust at which point he'll turn on them and treat them the same way he feels he has been treated. This is where the line he has drawn between his masks and inner emotions begins to blur -- he will jump to the defense of the people he cares for (namely, his mother to Sirius, and he would have stood up for Sirius to his mother if he'd been just a little bit braver and his mother a little less intimidating).

    THE BEGINNING
ethnicity : french/english/irish
hometown : Liverpool
mother and father : Walburga and Orion Black
brothers and sisters : Sirius Black
other relatives : His Uncle Cygnus, Aunt Druella, and cousins Andromeda (though she has been disowned, she’s still blood to him), Bellatrix, and Narcissa. Through them, he is also related to Evan Rosier. And then there’s just about the entire wizarding world.
overall history : ]
Born the second son to Orion and Walburga Black, Regulus was not the "heir" to the Black name and fortune and therefore not as important as his older brother Sirius. This didn't bother Regulus too much, as he rather liked not having to deal with the level of stress his parents put on Sirius; expectations were placed on him as well, of course, but they were a much watered-down version of those Sirius was handed. Although he enjoyed being the younger son in that respect, he hated that anything he did was automatically compared to how Sirius had done it. He quickly grew tired of hearing about how Sirius did better, "Sirius got two marks higher when he did that same assignment", how the tutor was always impressed with Sirius' work -- Sirius this, Sirius that. As much as Regulus looked up to and admired his older brother, sometimes he got tired of always being "Sirius Black's little brother."

Being the child of an aristocratic family such as the Blacks, there were expectations he couldn't get out of even though he was the second-born son. One of those things was tutoring, and it was insisted that the tutor (who had excellent credentials, of course) use a very strict curriculum including mathematics, science, literature, grammar, and history, as well as other lessons including etiquette and manners, dancing, and music. Regulus also learned about magic before he had a wand to practice it, as the Blacks were a family that preferred to be ahead in everything, including the use and theory of magic.

Regulus' childhood is best summarized by his two most important relationships that took place during it, one of which was the one he had with his mother. Walburga Black was one of the few people who didn't want to compare him to Sirius; in fact, strangely, she tended to seek her younger son's company more often than her elder's. It is for this reason that Regulus developed a deep love for her and went out of his was to attempt to make her proud of him. Perhaps it is also due to the fact that he was the "baby of the family" (if there is a such thing in the Black family) that he is such a mother's boy, but for whatever reason, he was always fiercely loyal to her, not letting anyone get away with insulting her -- not even Sirius.

The other relationship that impacted him deeply was, naturally, with his brother. As all (or most) younger siblings tend to do of their older siblings, Regulus idolized Sirius and thought he was "the best." Although Regulus would always work hard to prove he was every bit as worthy of being a Black as Sirius was, he constantly sought Sirius' approval and tried to model himself after his brother who, as a child, he believed to be almost perfect. Regulus' affection for brother and mother was so evenly matched that when word came that Sirius had been sorted into Gryffindor, Regulus was distraught trying to choose where to stand on the matter, as both of his parents were incensed with what had happened. It wasn't until Regulus was sorted into Slytherin the following year that the feeling of betrayal began to sink in.

The first few months of his first year at Hogwarts, Regulus wasn't sure how to act around Sirius; at home, he'd a tendency to follow him around and hero-worship him, but at school things were different. Sirius was a Gryffindor and he associated himself with people that Regulus had been told were lower than dirt his entire life. Not long into term, Regulus confronted Sirius about his choice of friends, which escalated into an argument that ended in Regulus running away practically in tears. After that, Regulus began closing in on himself, and somewhat becoming his own person. The rest of his family believe this is his hate for Sirius, but really it is just the mask for him to hide the absolute sadness at what he sees as his brother‘s betrayal.

While Regulus wasn't the absolute brightest in his years so far at Hogwarts, he was always one of the top five pupils in just about every class he was enrolled in because he was driven to do well academically while in school, not only because it was expected of him as a Black but also in a (perhaps one-sided) competition with Sirius. The subject he seemed to have the most affinity for was Potions, with Herbology coming in a close second. At school, Regulus didn't have many friends, nor did he have many enemies -- mainly the latter consisted of Sirius and his friends, whom he hated because he believed them to be the reason Sirius betrayed his family. But Regulus was never fully able to shake off his idolization of his elder brother and still tries to impress him every now and then. Within the last year, he was able to advance so much in his four core classes, that he was bumped up to year six.

In the end, it was also through Bellatrix that Regulus discovered the option of becoming a Death Eater, and though he doesn‘t want to become one, his parents are constantly dropping hints about it. After Sirius had left home for good, Regulus became the only (acknowledged) son, the heir -- and felt more than ever the expectations to live up to the Black family and when before he had loathed Sirius for being the heir, he now wished he didn’t have to be. His parents expected all these things from him now, and he can never seem to appease them. When his mother is particularly frustrated, she tends to compare him with Sirius, even though he barely even exists in her perfect world.

With girls, Regulus has been clueless. He had two girlfriends, but both were primarily due to their families wanting to unite and setting the two of them up. If left to his own devices, Regulus would have no clue how to go about asking a girl out -- nor had he ever any real desire to. He was more interested in other things, such as reading the entire library, or passing his transfiguration exam. Girls just never fit into any of his plans. However, his second girlfriend was steady, and he dated her through his entire fourth and most of his fifth, years.

roleplay example :
His mother claimed that there must have been some kind of mistake and that his brother would have to try on the hat again and be sorted again. He didn’t want to be sorted again and Dumbledore claimed that he would most likely end up in Gryffindor again, because obviously that was where he belonged. His mother was furious and sent both her son and the headmaster howlers, but Sirius merely laughed at them when they exploded and grinned and waved at anyone who turned around to look at who got the howler.

When Regulus started school, his brother brought him to sit in his compartment with his friends and he hoped and wished that Regulus would be like him, but he almost knew that it was hopeless to wish for wishes never come true because Regulus was different from him and had always been afraid of disobeying their mother. During the summers, Regulus would spend sleepless nights staring at the ceiling and listening when their mother and Sirius shouted back and forth and their mother would wonder where they had gone wrong with him.

His brother’s new friends at school were, different from Regulus and didn’t seem to like Regulus too much. He had hoped and wished that they would all get along because Regulus was, his brother who had been his only friend during their childhood. Sirius wondered why he liked his new friends better than he liked his brother and he wondered if it was because his new friends were different from Regulus or if it was because they were more like him than his brother would ever be. Regulus was sorted, and Sirius was disappointed.

Regulus saw Sirius with his friends at school, saw him laughing and Regulus thought Sirius had always laughed too much. He loved Sirius more than anything else but he was different no matter what Sirius constantly repeated and he would never be able to change because then their mother would hate him too and he didn’t want to become the traitor.

Sirius remembered all the times at home when they were younger and when he and Regulus had been sitting on the stairs and played their childhood games and Regulus had been his best friend and Regulus would listen to his all stories and be flabbergasted and beg him to tell him the same stories over and over again. Always the same ones.

But then Sirius ran away from home and things got worse. Their mother pretended that she had only one son and at school Regulus pretended not to have a brother and tried to avoid Sirius by all means. He caught Regulus’ arm once or twice in the hallways as he passed by and pulled him to a halt just to exchange a word or two. Regulus would wait while Sirius said what he wanted to have said and then would give him an empty stare before leaving the hall without replying.

Is mother telling you to act like this? Sirius called after him once but Regulus had already gone around the corner and during those days Sirius's mood were always bad and he made James and Peter go with him to hex Snivellus, because Sirius knew that usually cheered him up.

Sirius knew he had already lost his brother years before but when he really did lose him, he cried but he only cried once because he had mourned his brother for years already, yet during those years, he never cried and Lily never had to put her arms around him and tell him things would be alright.

Regulus was always alone. These were the times he spent in the forbidden forest, hiding in a tree until someone came across him, usually a fellow Slytherin seventh year. Blue eyes snapped to a figure approaching. “Yes, can I help you?” the dark haired boy asked in a quiet voice that was so unlike him.
